Cohesity excels with its fast restore times and integrated multi-cloud capabilities, while Veeam stands out with its granular recovery options for Microsoft 365 apps. Both have notable advantages, but user preferences may tip in favor of Cohesity for its simplicity and efficiency in backup processes.
Features: Cohesity DataProtect delivers rapid restore times for files and VMs, smooth cloud integration, and is scalable across environments. It’s praised for its straightforward user experience and efficient backup processes. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 impresses with its detailed recovery options, especially for Microsoft 365 apps such as SharePoint and OneDrive, allowing for targeted restores with minimal complexity.
Room for Improvement: Users of Cohesity DataProtect often point to the need for better documentation, faster restore processes, and stronger reporting features, expecting more robust features in future updates. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 users are concerned about pricing and suggest enhancements in deduplication and storage integration to improve cost-effectiveness and user experience.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Cohesity DataProtect is compatible with a wide range of environments, including on-premises and hybrid clouds, receiving praise for customer service and technical support. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 also supports diverse setups, offering ease of deployment, though user feedback on support responsiveness varies.
Pricing and ROI: Cohesity DataProtect offers competitive pricing with bundled hardware, though noted for high upfront costs. It is valued for its clear pricing model and reported cost savings and ROI over time. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365’s pricing gathers mixed reviews, viewed as fair but sometimes pricey. The per-user pricing model is a downside for some, impacting satisfaction with return on investment.
Using Cohesity DataProtect is easier to manage, and it simplifies various components into one architecture, reducing the need for extensive human resources to manage backups.
For Office 365, Microsoft has already done a good job securing their own data center, so additional backup is basically just getting another copy for on-prem safety.
Veeam is a good investment in general.
The support can depend on the region, and for larger customers, I advise having a Technical Account Manager for better assistance.
For the support, I can provide a rating of four only because they initially provide some steps, but later say they are not sure, which is a problem in a production environment.
My customers have reported that when they open a ticket, even complex issues get resolved swiftly with a remote session.
I find Veeam's customer service and support to be excellent, rating them ten out of ten.
They give us a notification very much in advance if there is a maintenance activity.
Cohesity DataProtect is built on a scale-out architecture, which means it can effectively scale to meet various needs.
It is very scalable because all hosting is on the cloud backup.
From organization to organization, the scalability requirement varies.
Veeam Backup is quite scalable.
On the whole, any problems were more related to hardware limitations rather than issues with Cohesity DataProtect itself.
I have not faced any issues impacting my operations or my customers' operations.
The container functionality is very limited at the moment, not covering the whole container.
While there are improvements to be made, such as providing support for older systems like IBM iSeries and tandem systems from HP, the solution overall shifts from older methods to modern practices.
There is room to improve the user interface of Cohesity DataProtect for more intuitive navigation.
One area that needs improvement is the pricing of Veeam Backup, as it can be expensive at twenty-eight dollars per user for one year.
Rather than giving a help database, which is an ocean of information to search through ourselves, we should be able to open a ticket and have them guide us on how to do it.
Basically, the products, both of the products that we are using, are performing well, and we do not have any problems with it.
I find Cohesity DataProtect to be expensive.
Transitioning to a cloud solution was not cost-effective for us.
The initial onboarding plus the initial expenses are slightly more when compared to another cloud-to-cloud backup.
The platform is based on a scale-out architecture with each node having compute, RAM, SSD, and HDD.
Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption.
The option to maintain evidence in Europe for regulatory compliance, the ability to maintain the backup with the same technology and same control plane, along with the same solutions to use backup solutions such as S3 or similar services in AWS, is what we are working with.
The most valuable features of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 are its intuitive interface, ease of use, and unlimited capacity for backup and restore.
I have utilized the granular recovery options for recovery mailbox and OneDrive.
The most beneficial thing is that it is admin-friendly, with no complicated menu structure.
