We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the alert notifications, which are categorized by severity levels: informational, low, medium, and high.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""Investigations are something really remarkable. We can drill down right to the raw logs by running different queries and getting those on the console itself.""The most valuable features are its threat handling and detection. It's a powerful tool because it's based on machine learning and on the behavior of malware.""It is easy to implement (turn on) - does need a skilled analyst to develop queries and playbooks.""The UI of Sentinel is very good and easy to use, even for beginners.""The data connectors that Microsoft Sentinel provides are easy to integrate when we work with a Microsoft agent."

"The correlation rules and the user platform are most valuable."

"The FIM features in the Change Tracker and the Log Tracker are the most valuable.""This is a very easy-to-use interface with a quick ramp-up time.""The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance.""File integrity monitoring is a very important function."

Cons
"I think the number one area of improvement for Sentinel would be the cost.""I would like to be able to monitor applications outside of the Azure Cloud.""The performance could be improved. If I create 15 to 20 lines for a single-use case in KQL, sometimes it takes more time to execute. If I create use cases within a certain timeline, the result will show in .01 seconds. A complex query takes more time to get results.""Sentinel can be used in two ways. With other tools like QRadar, I don't need to run queries. Using Sentinel requires users to learn KQL to run technical queries and check things. If they don't know KQL, they can't fully utilize the solution.""If I can use Sentinel offline at home and use it on a local network, it would be great. I'm not sure if I can use Sentinel offline versus the tools I have.""Microsoft should improve Sentinel, considering that from the legacy systems, it cannot collect logs.""When it comes to ingesting Azure native log sources, some of the log sources are specific to the subscription, and it is not always very clear.""I would like to see more AI used in processes."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"They can add behavior analytics and AI or machine learning technology. They also improve their correlation engine. In addition to collecting logs from devices, they can collect the traffic and then correlate these logs and the traffic information."

More ClearSkies SaaS NG SIEM Cons →

"I would like to see the integration of AI technology, so rather than manually monitoring the logs, the tool will understand it and take care of it.""Only one minor deployment issue came up and it was resolved quickly. No other areas of improvement come to mind yet.""It is able to identify the vulnerability, however, they need an option to auto-mitigate.""The correlation suite needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
  • More Microsoft Sentinel Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "They have changed the pricing policy. Its price is competitive. Its price is less than half of the price of QRadar, LogRhythm, and Splunk."
  • More ClearSkies SaaS NG SIEM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Consider both their on-premises solution and their hosted solution. Both are reasonably priced."
  • "We have selected a perpetual license along with support."
  • "NNT's pricing is moderate - I would rate their pricing two-and-a-half out of ten."
