It provides a powerful network analysis both with individual transactions and general network performance. We've had lots of hardware issues with the MPMs.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It provides a powerful network analysis both with individual transactions and general network performance."
"It improves production troubleshooting, it improves pre-production performance testing and it improves our development quality, because they can find and troubleshoot performance and quality issues prior to testing."
"The feature that is most valuable to us is the snapshot feature. It allows us to get a snapshot of different SQL scripts that are being executed simultaneously and we can identify everything we need on them."
"Has helped us to increase customer acquisitions and reduce revenue leakage in the following: Conversion rates Average revenue per user Customer acquisition costs Rate of customer churn Recurring or incremental revenue Renewals and/or subscriptions."
"The most valuable feature is the ability for developers to do performance analysis functions by functions, be able to understand response time, and be able to improve code when they need to."
"With AppDynamics, we were able to identify where the database query was taking more time, whether it was taking time on logical IOs or physical IOs, and it is also giving proactive alerts that help us to narrow down issues much more quickly and fix them before they start impacting our customers."
"Splunk AppDynamics positively impacts our organization by allowing real-time performance monitoring, enabling us to optimize various business applications and visibly enhance their performance."
"I haven't seen any other vendor even come close to AppDynamics’ support."
"End-user monitoring (web and mobile)"

Cons

"In our experience, technical support has been slow. We’ve been plagued with hardware issues, which have been on-going for a long time and which is going through CA to a separate partner, who then needs to deal with another local partner company for hardware."
"The user access management could be a bit better."
"The product has a pretty diverse metrics browser, but I’d like to see better out-of-the-box visual reporting so that we can roll this up to management."
"As per my experience, the drill-down feature can be improved at the class level."
"Its resiliency can be improved. We're told that the best we can do with an on-prem solution is to have a hot standby that requires a manual switchover. So, it is a do-it-yourself Ikea model of maintaining data consistency between two servers, without having low balance or failover considerations for an on-prem solution."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring would be a better product if it could support new technology, such as cloud technology. Even Dynatrace lacks support for newer technologies."
"The product’s dashboard could be more easy to implement."
"A problem with App Dynamics is that they do not have robust documentation, making it difficult for start-up organizations who may need guidance."
"The granularity of historic data could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"The product’s licencing policy is competitive. However, properly identify and size your needs to get the best rate."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring is expensive. I rate it a seven to eight out of ten."
"The solution is highly expensive"
"There is a license for the solution and we paid approximately $2,000. There is also an additional cost above the standard license which cost us approximately $3,000."
"There is a license to use this solution. However, the clients pay for the licenses we are the service provider."
"Because it is priced per JVM, the price can increase pretty fast, into the millions. We have had challenges because we had to justify the price to our clients, as well, when we are putting in certain tools."
"AppDynamics is an expensive solution."
