Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Reliable monitoring has supported synthetic transactions and improved visibility for government operations
We do not have any issues with Solarwinds Web Performance Monitor, and we do not have any complaints about the performance. Solarwinds Web Performance Monitor is overall good regarding synthetic transaction monitoring and data virtualization. I would rate Solarwinds Web Performance Monitor a 10 out of 10 based on our experience.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support has been pretty good."
"APM is quite nice, especially with the new features in version 10."
"If we see something that we need to change or monitor, we can get it scripted pretty quickly."
"I had a 25% reduction in defects and 37% reduction in transaction response time, as well as a nearly 100% increase in the number of transactions occurring on a daily basis."
"The alerting part – if the system goes down we get an immediate notification that a resource has gone down, so it reduces the impact on the business."
"Technical support is very helpful and supportive."
"It is great product with lots of features that help minimize the time taken to troubleshoot issues and root cause analysis to avoid loss of business."
"It helps you get to the root cause much faster when you have issues."
"Everything is functioning well, the interface is intuitive and understandable, easy to read, to access utilization files and reports."

Cons

"It takes a long time to get it set up and configured in your applications and running."
"CEM needs to be simplified, because it causes too many interruptions in our daily work."
"I have not rated it higher because I’d like more integration and more bells and whistles."
"The monitoring stats we get are only 70%-80% reliable; we cannot depend completely on the monitoring view provided."
"It does not help prioritize application performance issues at the moment, but the application and the product are working well."
"The reports are a key part of APM in my vision because it is through them that we manage to generate the evidence to direct the development team and operational support to address. However, we can not extract the information of the tool through reports. We have needed several times to use screen print screen, CTRL + C and CTRL + V."
"Based on my experience with the product, I found two areas which can be improved on in future. Firstly, the APM upgrade procedure is a bit complicated with compatibility issues which can emerge like between agents and EM/Collectors."
"It would be very helpful to have transaction insights with a more transparent configuration."
"Solarwinds Web Performance Monitor needs to improve maintenance and support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"The licensing costs are expensive."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"Depends on the size of the product you need."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"I'm unable to give information on Broadcom DX Application Performance Management licensing costs, but all Application Performance Management products have expensive pricing. This means that it's not only Broadcom that's expensive, and it would be an advantage if the cost would be a little bit cheaper."
