Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Drill-down monitoring shows us the entire transaction chain, from the front end to back end. It needs HTML5 interface.
I want to see a new interface that contains HTML5 features. The current version of Foglight (on-premise edition) is so fusty in comparison with leaders of Gartner APM Quadrant - i.e. Appdynamics, NewRelic, Dynatrace. If you try to compare SaaS and on-premise Foglight versions you can see differences in UI-design. It's my subjective experiences, but SaaS version looks more modern. Hope this helps

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This tool has saved the organization a lot of money, and I can see an improvement by a minimum of 3% in performance of any given application."
"The APM tool allows us to monitor performance of that application, where are the pain points, where are the slowdowns, to focus on where we can fix those."
"It’s a great product and provides a lot of in-depth data."
"It helps you get to the root cause much faster when you have issues."
"CA APM always helps in finding problems quickly rather than requiring us to check logs to pin-point the issue."
"It's really changing the way that we're doing our business."
"SLAs and User Experience improved (most of all- User Experience / Application performance) You can fix complex incidents with a quick look at the dashboards (CA dashboards or your custom dashboards) You can easily be proactive and can help to save departments a lot of time."
"Now, different teams can get info even before the system crashes and can take proactive steps and find the exact point to focus their efforts to fix it."
"The ability to track performance of an application or application suite over time is extremely valuable to our business partners and for our application development team with near real time results."
"Dell Foglight does analyze and optimize your virtual infrastructure. It definitely reduces operational cost."
"Our ROI has been great it has saved us many times to resolve issues before customers started complaining."
"Foglight Enterprise was the most scalable and easy to deploy tool."
"Excellent monitoring capability and business service views"
"We have no hard figures on the ROI on this product, however having the system has saved us time in terms of debugging and getting to the root cause of issues."
"This level of viewable monitoring had many benefits such as alerting, scalability, reporting and service dashboard we could promote."
"Over all in my organization, this product helped us to maintain health, risk and efficiency of the virtual infrastructure."

Cons

"The installation could be improved. Also, they need to concentrate more on the cloud for cloud monitoring."
"It could be faster. For example, when we are upgrading the product, it takes a lot of time and there are a lot of things we have to do manually."
"Automatic report generation needs work."
"The upcoming changes for the deployment process of the agent will help a lot, in that others have gotten to that point first."
"There are several areas that could be improved in Broadcom DX Application Performance Management. One of the main areas is user experience monitoring, which is currently not available. Additionally, they need to develop a solution that is compatible with OpenShift 4, as their current solution only works when an agent is installed within the image, which is not possible in OpenShift 4 as it removes the agent."
"On Windows Platform, it’s not great and/or stable (from previous experience)."
"I have faced scalability and stability issues. When we needed to monitor a large number of data metrics, then these kinds of issues occur."
"Had some performance problems with a few applications and had to disable some probes."
"South African skill is scarce"
"Being able to incorporate other bespoke monitoring into Foglight would have made the tool even more useful."
"My only complaint from Foglight for monitoring is that you only get a plot for five minute average for metrics like CPU and Memory, on the application side I can see metrics more quickly at 15 seconds for metrics like active sessions, heap. I would like to see the same for CPU and memory."
"Migrating to newer versions is always a challenge with Foglight."
"When we first turned on Foglight for the first time, it was like a fire hose."
"I think installation and setup needs little more improvement especially when you are installing with external database."
"They need to improve the stability of FxM and FxV."
"The upgrade process could use some fine tuning. I have done an upgrade of the system as well as addedupdated agents, and sometimes that process is a bit cumbersome, and does not go as planned."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing costs are expensive."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"On pricing, CA is very competitive. I think that's going to help in the long run."
"Broadcom is a better and cheaper option from the financial perspective. It also depends on the DLP plug."
"Depends on the size of the product you need."
"Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"Since the product split – the licensing is a bit more complex."
"I recall it being a very expensive solution relative to function and stability."
"The price is expensive for us."
"Foglight can be expensive I would go with the pricing at a three year deal."
