Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Cloud integration has transformed projects and delivers faster, more secure business workflows
In my opinion, the best feature Boomi iPaaS offers is its user interface, which is easy to maintain, has a low cost, and offers low licensing costs, making it very easy to develop any integration. Regarding features, Boomi iPaaS performs best and is more stable. It also has easy support, allowing me to contact the Boomi support vendor team for assistance with atoms, molecules, runtimes, and clusters. Security-wise, it is also more secure, enabling the use of internal OAuth 2.0 tokens and basic authentication for high-level authentication, and I can integrate with third-party services to obtain authentication, with some banking projects in Boomi iPaaS using PayU, Razorpay, and various payment platform authentications. The positive impact of Boomi iPaaS on my organization has been significant, as after adopting it, I received many projects with the help of the Boomi vendor who brought me opportunities for Boomi iPaaS usage. Previously, I used TIBCO, MFT, and WebMethods, which were all very old systems. Boomi iPaaS is cloud-based and continues to update constantly, which has been very useful and led to more business. I can definitely say I see specific positive outcomes after moving to Boomi iPaaS, noting improvements in efficiency, cost savings, and faster project delivery. The connector-based licensing cost is very low compared to other integration tools, and for security purposes, it is helpful. I have observed significant good performance transitioning from old legacy systems to Boomi iPaaS.

Helps to control the workflow and business process components of customers' operations but OSGi integration can be challenging
I'd rate my experience with the initial setup of Flowable at about a three out of ten, but for our developers, it's probably closer to a six. I found it challenging due to the complexity of the user and help documents and the fact that much of the Flowable documentation and tutorials are focused on cloud-based implementations. Since we're primarily interested in basic components like BPMN models and form design, which aren't included in the product, the learning process was more difficult for me. In contrast, our developers are more comfortable diving into the code and technology stack, which allows them to be more proactive in their approach. The deployment took three months to complete. We're still in the deployment process. Our main challenge is integrating the Flowable process engine into our product, which uses OSGi. This has led to complexity in managing the Java versions and dependencies, as the tool has around 150 Java files. We could have chosen to interact with Flowable via a Docker container and the REST API, which would have isolated the OSGi Java dependencies, but we decided to integrate it directly. This has required resolving Java version control issues and upgrades, leading to various development challenges that must be addressed. It is a learning process for all of us. As an integrated solutions architect, I would have probably opted for the Docker route rather than the direct OSGi integration chosen by the developers. However, since they went with the OSGi integration, it's taking us longer to complete the deployment. Currently, we have one full-time developer dedicated to deployment, along with one part-time developer, and my involvement at about a quarter of my time. So, we have about two people working on deployment. As for maintenance, we're not entirely sure yet. Given our direct OSGi integration choice instead of Docker and REST, maintenance may be more challenging. However, we'll have a clearer picture once deployment is complete.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Unattended use is its most valuable feature."
"By using SNMP configurations and Excel, I was able to read the mail. I used this functionality to categorize the fabric, then I used this information to correlate the value to Jira along with Excel."
"The most valuable feature of Automation Anywhere right now is its low-code, no-code framework, which allows us to build a lot of templates that are both repeatable and reusable over time."
"In version 11.3, they have a good security option. Tool-wise, it's pretty good to work on Automation Anywhere. If you compare it to other tools in the industry. It is very user-friendly and easy to develop processes. We liking using it very much."
"The turnaround time of building bots is quick. We are deploying around four bots per month. The turnaround time to get a design, build, and deploy is very fast. This is very good for us. It has helped us out when scaling up in a better manner."
"Automation Anywhere has helped us save on both time and cost."
"It has reduced the number of full-time employees."
"Using Automation Anywhere saves us time, money, and eliminates errors."
"The connection configuration part and the drag-and-drop integration module are the most valuable features for me."
"The tool's most valuable features I've found are related to debugging and testing. It makes it easy to track execution, documents, and process history. This functionality is particularly useful for identifying issues with data and providing insights to the business."
"Very effective with its drag-and-drop feature."
"Extremely flexible for any kind of integration between systems."
"Boomi AtomSphere Integration is stable."
"Boomi iPaaS has significantly impacted our ROI. We have automated complete order-to-cash processes for multiple customers, saving over 90 million dollars."
"We have a tight relationship with Boomi; we get support from Boomi then pass it on to our clients, and the support they provide us with is very good."
"Integration-wise, it is a pretty good tool."
"The tool's most valuable feature is the process engine. It allows us to define BPM-based workflows, deploy them into our process engine, and interact with them within our product."

Cons

"For beginners learning Automation Anywhere, there should be predefined templates to start creating a task bot. Instead of dragging and dropping action commands and doing error handling, there should be predefined templates that they can directly use."
"Although, IQ Bot has data being extracted from it. It can improve with more features, like handwritten copies that are readable."
"The debugger is also a weakness of the tool, forcing the developer to use error handling or message box to map errors. Few applications take more time for loading when integrated."
"The setup process is not easy compared to the competition, and this can be a barrier to entry."
"Queues are great but need improvement. They are helpful because most of the automations are transaction-based."
"Automation Anywhere could benefit from a more technical focus."
"I have experienced the issues of UI getting stuck. There seems to be an issue with server stability. This is something that can be better."
"The availability of material in terms of more technical documentation could be improved, particularly in-depth information about how things can be done."
"Boomi iPaaS needs better source control. It is not as good as it could be in terms of managing versions and running what-if scenarios."
"They should create a custom connector option. With this, they could improve where the user can create the connector, based on their usage."
"In day-to-day operations, tracking transactions is a major challenge. It takes hours to track a single transaction. It is not a straightforward process."
"They need to introduce more configurable functions to remove scripting or coding. Scripting should be minimized. It should have exhaustive functions. Currently, it lacks in this aspect."
"Documentation could be improved."
"There are very few string handling functions and few mathematical functions are available."
"There are more mature (dedicated) API management and master data management (MDM) solutions available in the market."
"There is no validation in the mapping profile custom scripting, such as IntelliSense or advanced error checking."
"In my opinion, areas of improvement for Flowable include the management and creation of forms within the open-source components and the documentation and examples provided. While the cloud-based Flowable implementation with no-code features is attractive, we prefer more control over integration, especially since we deploy our product onto AWS. We also want to avoid additional licensing fees for Flowable runtime user components on top of our software development and implementation charges."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My only suggestion in terms of pricing is very generic and that is to consider that as much as RPA saves cost and does automation, please get a realistic estimation done on whether you are really achieving any ROI over your investment with RPA."
"Complaints are generally about the cost of IQ Bot, which is higher than its competitors. The base model’s pricing is comparable to other platforms with attended, unattended, and IDP capabilities as well."
"Automation Anywhere's price is considerably better than UiPath's."
"Initially, they charged a premium, but now the rest of the vendors have increased their overall pricing and Automation Anywhere is not that high at this time. It's pretty viable."
"I'm not sure what the monthly licensing cost is, as that is taken care of by another team, but I would say it's around $100,000."
"We only deal in annual licenses. There are no pay-as-you-go licenses."
"Annual licensing costs would be about $100,000."
"The product starts at $10,000 and then it's up to you regarding how much you can consume."
"I rate the product's price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"Boomi AtomSphere Integration is a relatively cheap and cost-effective product compared to other products like SAP or Oracle."
"The cost of the solution is in the neighborhood of $20,000 annually. There are no costs above the standard licensing fee."
"The pricing is a bit complex. While the entry fee may be lower than other solutions, it could be expensive depending on your usage."
"It is an expensive platform."
"They do not charge by the number of people using the software (client-server model), but rather they charge based on the number of connections used. This makes it very cost effective."
"Approximately 20k annually."
"When it comes to pricing, it's not so much about being less expensive as it is about how they don't tie to the hardware on the underlined VMware that you run on, as other vendors do"
"Since the tool is open-source, we don't have to pay anything for it. It's free to download and use, which is great for us. If Flowable hadn't been available as open source and required a license fee for us to integrate it into our product, we might not have chosen it."
