Efficient data integration reduces operational time and enhances metadata management
For the initial setup with AWS Glue, I find it easy to set up the data catalog and create Glue jobs using the visual editor or the visual code. Setting permission sets via IAM rules can be a bit tricky at the start, but we ensure Glue has access to AWS S3, Redshift, and other services. Once the role is configured, it runs smoothly. For advanced configurations, connecting to VPCs and setting up connections with JDBC sources takes more time compared to my cloud experience, but overall, for someone with cloud and ETL experience, the setup is manageable and well done.

The best features Tray.io offers include excellent visualization capabilities and a dashboard, which stand out to me the most. I appreciate that it is very easy to convert the data we receive from Tray.io into dashboards from Power BI, which is extremely useful. I would also appreciate if in the future Tray.io provides a way to natively convert the data to Tableau. Tray.io has positively impacted my organization as it provides a trusted way to organize data results and share them throughout the company at once. As a multinational and very large company, it is definitely beneficial that those of us in the UK can use the same format that colleagues use in India, and the entire data architecture is framed within a trusted system from an established organization. As far as I know, Tray.io has been operating for the last 12 years, making it a very reliable system.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The two features I find most valuable in AWS Glue are its user interface and ease of use."
"The solution's technical support is good. Whenever we raise a use case where we face an issue in our company, we get a response from the solution's technical team."
"The most valuable feature of AWS Glue is its ease of use and good documentation. Additionally, we can do all the transformations that we need."
"We have found it beneficial when moving data from one source to another."
"Data catalog and triggers are the two best features for me. AWS Glue has its own data catalog, which makes it great and really easy to use. Triggers are also really good for scheduling the ETL process."
"It is a stable and scalable solution."
"Our entire use case was very easily handled or solved using this solution."
"AWS Glue's most valuable features include its transformation capabilities, which provide data quality and shape for processing in ML or AI models."
"Tray.io has positively impacted my organization by helping us keep our internal database and this third-party service in sync, and it has really helped us automate a lot of that work because it is fairly straightforward to maintain and develop."
"Tray.io has positively impacted my organization as it provides a trusted way to organize data results and share them throughout the company at once."
"Tray.io has positively impacted my organization by reducing the amount of redundant tasks that our team performs by approximately 80%, and the numbers are quite significant with the workflows alone, as we are working towards creating and utilizing AI within these workflows as well."

Cons

"The price of the solution could improve."
"I would like to see stable libraries at the moment they are not there."
"The start-up time is really high right now. For instance, when you start up a new job, you have to wait for five or eight minutes before it starts. If the start-up time is reduced to one or two minutes, it will be great. It will be better to have a direct linkage to Redshift in AWS. If we can use data catalogs from Redshift, it will be so easy to create some data catalogs. Currently, we can only use data catalogs from S3."
"The solution could be cheaper. The price of the solution is an area that needs improvement."
"In the building and deployment aspects, there is room for improvement. The current process is a bit complicated and could benefit from being more user-friendly and simpler, which would help speed up the deployment process."
"The overall cost of AWS Glue could be better. It cost approximately $1,000 a month."
"The setup and installation is a bit complex without advanced knowledge or training."
"Improvements in the UI are needed, as it is challenging to understand some functionalities."
"As our product got more complex, we needed to add more and more complexity to Tray.io in terms of our setup, and that is when the benefits of it being no-code or low-code started to pale in comparison to the cost of making everything slightly more complicated."
"One way Tray.io could be improved, especially for people coming in with no real coding experience, is with more comprehensive error messages."
"I have found that the error management in my main use case with Tray.io is not as effective as we would prefer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate the solution a six or seven on a scale of one to ten, with ten being very expensive. Specifically, I rate its pricing a six out of ten."
"Technical support is a paid service, and which subscription you have is dependent on that. You must pay one of them, and it ranges from $15,000 to $25,000 per year."
"The pricing is a bit higher than other solutions like Athena and EC2. If the pricing becomes more scaled or flexible, it will be good because you have to pay 44 cents just for one DPU for an hour. If you increase DPUs to 5 or 10, the pricing gets multiplied. There are also some time limits like 0 to 10 minutes or 10 to 20 minutes. If the pricing is according to the minutes, it would be better because you have to limit your job to 10 minutes or 20 minutes."
"AWS Glue uses a pay-as-you-go approach which is helpful. The price of the overall solution is low and is a great advantage."
"This solution is affordable and there is an option to pay for the solution based on your usage."
"I rate the tool's pricing a four out of ten."
"AWS Glue is quite costly, especially for small organizations."
"I rate pricing an eight out of ten."
