Efficient documentation generation through organized model structure with a good price-performance ratio
Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward. Although it's a powerful product with plenty of features, it's not easy for even experienced users to find their way without guidance. This is not the most user-friendly solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Flexibility of development; the developer can use various JavaScript APIs for development and most or all of the components are plug and play, so customization is easily achievable most of the time."
"Sparx EA beats all of these hands down on a cost/benefit analysis."
"Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect was easy to set up and it took just twenty minutes."
"Ability to use a single shared repository and defined languages, using both ArchiMate as the modelling language and the business language based on the repository contents."
"A feature I like most about Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect is its ease of use."
"The stability has been good and satisfactory. I would rate the stability a ten out of ten."
"It has led some teams to do better code reviews - to be less focussed on coding conventions (syntax) and more focussed on the semantics because of the abstraction level clear design affords."
"The solution allows us to quickly present designs and concepts to customers and get their feedback, thereby moving the project forward step by step."
"Depending on what items enter in the computation of ‘return’ the ROI can be estimated from high to very high, with productivity gains measured in either shorter lifecycles or headcounts of personnel required to build effective models."

Cons

"Yes, the servers are not as efficient as required."
"The reporting needs improvement."
"I didn't find any valuable features in Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect because you cannot use it for re-engineering."
"There were scalability issues. The HTML generation with very large models, over 4000 diagrams, can be problematic."
"My organization didn’t manage to take advantage. It needs a ‘critical mass’ of users and understanding to generate benefit, but here we failed."
"Navigating from EA Models to Business Process Models becomes a nightmare if the repository is heavily loaded."
"We would like to see improvements in the documentation generator: templates, styles, and content."
"The documentation could be better. Where I work, we speak French and we don't speak English, so we don't have anything in French. It's perfect in English, but we need something in French."
"It could be more user-friendly. The tools could be more simple to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"They have the price on their site for the enterprise version, and we do receive a small discount."
"Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect is priced well. The price we pay is approximately $20 per month. Other solutions I have found to be much more expensive."
"The pricing for ultimate version is steeply high."
"It is very economical and low cost. You have to pay for a one-time license, and it is active forever."
"It's reasonably priced for large organizations."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"The licensing is not as expensive as some of the other data modeling tools such as Erwin."
"It's affordable. The only additional cost that we haven't yet figured out is the floating license. If you buy a floating license, you have to have a license management server, which comes at an additional cost that's not discussed. So, we haven't yet used the floating license. That’s because I haven't had a chance to figure that out."
