Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) Reviews

I cannot provide internal details, but it involves in-house applications. We create data lakes and then in-house application clusters. On the top level, it is quite intuitive. It is open to different models that can be deployed on it, including Kubernetes and those kinds of variants.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is a centralized platform that allows us to deploy different clusters from a centralized location. The biggest advantage is that we can perform remote site deployments from a single interface.

It has made things simpler and brand agnostic. That is the advantage because we are working with different brands, applications, and protocols. This concept helps us work with different types of applications and protocols.

It is quite secure. On top of that, we already have our own layer of endpoint protection, the DMZs, and all that. It is a combination of the product itself and our endpoints and gateway protection.

The initial setup was not straightforward. It was challenging, but then it was manageable. It is relatively easy, but we do have challenges. Not everything is straightforward. There are things that can be addressed.

In a couple of cases, we needed some third-party expertise to ensure that we did it correctly. In most cases, we were able to do it on our own.

When hosting something on Azure and connecting with an HTTPS link, there are some dependencies that need to be tweaked on Nutanix. Otherwise, it does not communicate with the on-premises infrastructure. There were a few tweaks that we struggled with for almost a couple of days. That was not part of the original design manual. We needed to make some tweaks within the cluster ourselves to achieve the goal.

There were some shortcomings in the design that we had to customize ourselves to achieve, especially integration with Azure Cloud.

We have been using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for one and a half years.

So far, there have been no issues.

It is scalable, so it is fine. The startup license is all good. If we scale more, it goes towards a slightly expensive side, but still not too bad.

We are not using VMware anymore because of the Broadcom acquisition.

The initial deployment took approximately a couple of days.

We implemented Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) through a third-party vendor partner.

We have not yet achieved ROI because we have only been using it for one and a half years.

We are considering alternate solutions, including StoreMagic. We have also tried Kubernetes.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) supports hybrid scenarios where in some sites we need the data on cloud for higher performance. We can synchronize cloud and on-premises. Development happens mostly on cloud and then production goes on-premises. That combination works well for us.

It is hybrid in a way. The simplified, centralized management and easy deployment are the main strengths.

Our team consists of three to five persons.

In a couple of cases, we needed some third-party expertise to ensure that we did it correctly. In most cases, we were able to do it on our own.

This product would be the main one that is quite relevant right now. The overall rating for this review is 8 out of 10.

Hybrid Cloud

Microsoft Azure

I use Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) as an exit solution from VMware. I'm running almost 100% container workloads, so I chose Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for those purposes. It's enabling my roadmap for AI, but I am not currently using it. I have plans within the next few years.

It helped me to orchestrate the microservice architecture on Kubernetes easily, without spending a lot of time to implement Kubernetes myself. Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) comes with the control plane that integrates with the management UI and also has the open standard that I can use another tool for integration, and it supports infrastructure as code.

It maintains open compatibility of the Kubernetes standard and is also able to integrate most of the CNCF software projects, allowing for seamless migration from another platform.

It's easy enough for deploying and managing Kubernetes using this product, but not that easy. It still requires the command line CLI to deploy via scripting, so it should be improved. In terms of deployment, it should have some management UI for deployment, something with fewer steps. Right now, during the deployment, I still need to develop some of the deployment scripts. So it's not user-friendly; it's still not easy for a junior engineer, as it still requires some experienced engineer.

Improvement should be done in terms of managing Kubernetes.

For Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), to unlock all the features and capabilities, it requires an upgrade to the ultimate edition because I use Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) Basic, or it's called Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) Starter, which does not have all the features; it has some very basic functions.

Some areas could be better regarding technical support from Nutanix because I'm using the SDN, the software-defined network solution from Nutanix. Sometimes, I have problems, but I'm not sure if the issue is with the driver of Dell or the firmware of Dell network integrated card or if it comes from the Cisco ACI switch. In terms of using SDN, troubleshooting is not easy; this area could improve.

I just used Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) last year; I just implemented it.

It's a stable product; I think it's steady due to Kubernetes itself.

It's easy to scale Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP).

Some areas could be better regarding technical support from Nutanix because I'm using the SDN, the software-defined network solution from Nutanix. I would rate technical support around eight, with zero to ten points, where ten is the best.

Positive

Before Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), I have been using Red Hat OpenShift.

I tried using the simplified air-gapped deployment feature, which is good enough for a deployment without the internet; it helps me to ensure the compatible software version, including firmware and driver, and I make sure I control the version.

It's good enough with the price. It comes with the Nutanix standard and includes the basic control plane. However, if I compare it with other commercial software licenses or the Kubernetes commercial license like Red Hat OpenShift, I think Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is better with the maximum edition. The Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) alternate edition provides more comprehensive security features and a more complete management suite with the maximum tier. But since I'm still starting with this product, I don't know all features; I believe it has the capability to replace OpenShift in the future from my side.

I think Nutanix in terms of pricing and capabilities is better compared to Red Hat because it supports some of the extensibility plugins of Kubernetes by default; I can also open a support ticket to support engineers on the open-source software projects.

I use a private cloud on-prem and co-location with my True IDC, which is my partner company, and build my own private cloud. I have both; I'm running the core service on AWS and also purchased some of the products from the marketplace. 

Because it's open for integration with GitOps methodology, when I'm using GitOps with Argo CD, it helps me to just plug and play easily; I can deploy the entire platform via GitOps solution.

In general, I can give Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) a rating of nine out of ten, where ten is the best. 

Private Cloud

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

For Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), we are using applications, web servers, databases, and we have almost more than 100 servers running on NKP and microservices, which are the use cases in our country.

We are leveraging some of NKP's API-driven infrastructure, but not very much; we are primarily using web servers, microservices, databases, .NET, and all these kinds of things on NKP.

We are using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) in the medical industry.

I find everything useful in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) scenario, especially now that we have management clusters separate from production clusters, which gives us more flexibility to work independently, allowing application teams, database teams, or web server teams to work without any involvement from the admin team. Before, it was a bit confusing for all the teams because it was a mix and match, but now it's clear, having multiple clusters running on NKP, with cluster-based access or role-based access, which is one of the best features now in NKP.

Automation in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is one of the very useful features, as it allows us to define automation, so whether we are there or not, it works as per the requirement, reducing the need to involve everyone every time.

The Nutanix intuitive interface looks good; it's not confusing because if you are working on Nutanix HCI, it's a different interface, and if you are working on Nutanix Kubernetes (NKP), it's also a different interface. If you've worked before on Kubernetes, it gives you the same feel and look, making it familiar as the Kubernetes app API is already inbuilt in NKP.

The security features of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) help protect applications; we are utilizing the security level provided by NKP and also using a third-party tool, Palo Alto, to protect in two ways.

In Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), I believe the migration process needs to be much simpler, similar to other Kubernetes platforms we are using, with all steps being clear and direct to facilitate an easier experience for everyone.

I have been working with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for almost one and a half years.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is stable; we have not faced any issues until now, and it is running fine for us, looking very stable, and we are using Kali Linux for our Kubernetes environment.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is easy to scale; once we set up the cluster, it offers flexibility for pods, nodes, and hardware, making it very efficient.

Nutanix support has been very helpful during any issues; they are very supportive and quick, coming online when we try to reach out, so their support is excellent.

I would rate Nutanix support as a 10 because they are very quick to respond whenever I open a case, usually providing support within an hour or two.

Positive

Before working with Nutanix Kubernetes (NKP), I was working on Dockers, which required separate setups for each microservice, application, or web server, but now everything is under one umbrella, allowing us to manage it all without going here and there.

The initial setup of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is straightforward; it's not very complicated since we are trained and certified. For us, it was not complicated at all, and we were able to finish it in a couple of hours, but someone who does not know the prerequisites might face issues. If you follow the Nutanix recommendations and documentation, the Kubernetes setup is smooth.

I have seen value for money with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) because we have now centralized everything, previously running an open Docker system in different locations. Centralizing everything on a single platform provides us with comprehensive monitoring, management, and centralization, which signifies value for money.

The price of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is somewhere in the middle; it's not low, and it's not high.

The security features of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) help protect applications; we are utilizing the security level provided by NKP and also using a third-party tool, Palo Alto, to protect in two ways.

We are using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) on-premises.

I recommend Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) because you can have the Kubernetes cluster on the Nutanix HCI cluster, allowing you to run everything together on the same hardware without any additional cost of resources.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) a 9.

On-premises

I was part of a Kubernetes team at Nutanix, which has its own way of implementing Kubernetes. I was part of that team for deploying Kubernetes on our servers so that Oracle could have various types of private cloud setups.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) has very good customer support. The product is very stable and resilient. I did not find any lags or system failures. I used it for the storage side. In Nutanix, AHV is their own hypervisor, which is a competitor product to VMware. AHV was also good and the UI was very friendly. I was able to get all the correct settings that I needed, and it was intuitive. I did not have to search a lot to find the exact settings. The response time for changing configurations, such as the number of nodes, memory nodes, and CPU nodes, was also good. I did not find any errors in that.

One drawback was that Nutanix required a higher number of nodes compared to VMware. For example, for 1000 virtual machines, it required more nodes as compared to VMware. The memory architecture featured the latest replication strategies, such as two-hour and three-hour replication types. It maintained memory across multiple nodes and fault tolerance was very good in Nutanix. The memory architecture was state of the art.

I find Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) more intuitive because they have distilled it down to one setting. There are not multiple settings exposed, and we are not exposed to various parts of the networks and memory. They have default settings included. Deploying and creating clusters is very easy because there is a default setting, and the settings exposed are not so overwhelming to the user.

Regarding replication of data across various networks and data centers, I was using a project that required deploying to one major data center. We had some inconsistencies, but those were majorly due to product knowledge gaps on our side, not because Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) was failing or due to misconfiguration. There were some complex settings, but that was bound to be confusing because it required more setting parameters in general.

Two main areas need improvement. First, there is a new concept coming called AI settings. Basically, you would not have to search for settings, but they would come directly. You could talk to the website and then it would give you the settings. This is one area of improvement to make it more user-friendly. Second, there is the optimization of the number of nodes in terms of resources.

I have been working with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for more than six months.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is scalable and stable.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) has very good customer support. The product is very stable and resilient, and I did not find any lags or system failures.

Positive

The setup was easy to deploy.

The pricing was in between, not very expensive but not very cheap either.

Nutanix versus Oracle: Oracle is a public cloud provider, and they are more inclined with features for public deployment. The features and settings are more focused on public deployment. Nutanix has more settings because it is a private cloud solution. Nutanix has more pros in terms of settings because it has the capability for private deployment as well as public deployment. The con is that the resource utilization is a bit higher in Nutanix.

I find Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) more intuitive because they have distilled it down to one setting. There are not multiple settings exposed, and we are not exposed to various parts of the networks and memory. They have default settings included. Deploying and creating clusters is very easy because there is a default setting, and the settings exposed are not so overwhelming to the user.

Managing applications in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is good. We used to have on-calls, but there were not major issues. I would rate Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) an eight out of ten.

Private Cloud

My use case for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is to redeploy and migrate existing Kubernetes workloads in the public cloud to on-premises Nutanix.

Overall, in my opinion, the best features of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) are a unified user experience and a unified platform to manage all Kubernetes clusters. The management dashboard is very easy to use, offering an option to have control of your entire infrastructure using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP).

I assess the CNCF conformant projects included in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) positively because you can package a lot of open-source projects and deploy them in all your clusters. Standardization using a unified user experience to deploy all cloud-native projects is a key feature.

While I'm glad to provide good marks, the areas that have room for improvement in Nutanix are the pricing. I believe the pricing will improve over time. The cost is what it is. I would suggest improving support and documentation for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) running not on the Nutanix platform. On the Nutanix platform, it is really nice and straightforward to run it. On other platforms, documentation could be more straightforward.

My experience with the air-gapped deployment option is that the air gap was not as comprehensive as it should be. Air gap is supposed to be fully air-gapped, meaning you do not need connectivity to the internet. However, you still need to open access to multiple cloud services, which can be improved.

I was very disappointed with the air gap implementation. It was not fully air-gapped as it should be. It is acceptable for our use case, but for secure environments such as government work, the air gap needs to be genuinely air-gapped. There should be no need to open ports to anything.

I have been using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for a year and a half, almost two years.

In terms of stability, I would give it an eight.

Regarding scalability, I will give it a ten.

From one to ten, I would rate the technical support of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) as excellent. I will rate it an eight.

When I compare Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) to other solutions or vendors, if you decide to put all eggs in one basket in the public cloud, fully managed services are better and easier. However, on-premises, I believe it is the best solution as compared with VMware Tanzu, which is expensive with licensing, and Rancher and SUSE. SUSE is a great product as well. However, SUSE requires management of the underlying platform, while Nutanix manages it for you.

The deployment of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) on VMware cloud was complex.

In terms of the challenges I faced, we had a challenge because we did not deploy on the Nutanix platform. That was the majority of the challenge. If it were on the Nutanix platform, it would be very simple. If you deploy it on a different platform, it becomes complicated. I am assuming they will improve that.

The return on investment I saw was quite probable in the beginning. You can easily say twenty to thirty percent based on the small footprint to manage and maintain it. As for how much I have seen, I will say easily, without a doubt, twenty to thirty percent.

In my thoughts on the pricing with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), I will say seven, which compared to VMware is a ten. There is nothing cheap these days in licenses.

The reason my organization decided to deploy on VMware, which is non-native to Nutanix, was to save money. It started as a money-saving initiative in the beginning until we moved to Nutanix. This was one of those projects to complete it now and move to the Nutanix platform afterward.

The maintenance of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is good. My experience with managing applications in production with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is really excellent. It is really stable. My advice to others looking into Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is that I will strongly recommend it if they understand that they truly need to have Kubernetes on-premises. Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) will give you a taste of the public cloud. However, if you do not need on-premises deployment, you should go to the public cloud for fully managed services, which is easier and makes work more straightforward because you do not need to manage another component. If a company needs to have on-premises deployment for many reasons, I would never buy Nutanix to run in the public cloud. However, I would buy it if I have to run it on-premises. We use the simplified air-gapped deployment option. I would rate this review a seven overall.

Typically when a customer has a requirement of application modernization, I am using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) where they want to modernize their monolithic applications to run them on containers. These are typical use cases. There is also some sort of competitive takeout. If a customer is using Kubernetes service on public cloud, and due to some sort of compliance issue, they want to migrate those services to on-premises. Nutanix is providing those private cloud capabilities and Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) can be installed on-premises as well as public cloud.

Migration from public cloud to private cloud and vice versa is actually seamless using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP). That is a primary use case. With an application modernization need, where a customer wants to migrate from monolithic to container-ready applications, it comes very handy when we can provide them a Kubernetes platform, when there is a requirement of an on-premises solution.

It is all about day one, which is all about implementation or deployment of a Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) cluster. Ease of deployment is the first thing which I appreciate because I can actually use something called Commander user interface. Using that, I can easily deploy Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) workload clusters. That is the beauty of it.

Those options are available from the UI itself, so ease of management is present.

The logging and monitoring capabilities deserve an eight out of ten because they have integration with many open-source tools and they are actually providing that as a logging and monitoring bundle where Nutanix is responsible for a single point of support.

Though native encryption is available in the product, it depends on customer use cases whether they want to use their own encryption or proceed with the native encryption available in the tool.

They have to improve their marketplace offering for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) which is currently limited. If you compare that with industry peers Red Hat, they have something called an Operator Hub. The integration of ecosystem partners available in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP)'s marketplace has very limited offerings as of today.

OpenShift is the main competitor for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) in the market.

Currently, OpenShift is better than Nutanix.

OpenShift has been in the market for the last seven to eight years and the ecosystem, partner ecosystem support and integration with third-party applications is actually available in more detail when it comes to Red Hat OpenShift. Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is still evolving in that particular phase.

I am still working with Nutanix solutions and Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP). I am using products including Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), or Kubernetes Engine, NKE.

Nutanix has acquired the company named D2IQ and then they rebranded NKE as Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP).

They are still evolving, but we always provide feedback to the product team of Nutanix. We are a Champion Business Partner for them, so as part of that engagement, we regularly provide feedback to the team.

My company is actually a partner with Nutanix. We are a Nutanix Champion Premier Partner and we provide these services of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) and other Nutanix portfolio products to our end customers.

I rate this solution 7 out of 10.

Hybrid Cloud

We are not the end users of this solution; we are a kind of cloud provider for the government. The institutions ask for a platform, and we create it while providing all the necessary infrastructure like networking and security. Then we give them credentials to enter and work on their infrastructure as tenants. The usual use cases for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) that we work with mostly consist of new applications architected as service-oriented applications. Developers from CNI or private companies ask us to prepare a Kubernetes cluster for deploying applications such as Evax for Covid vaccination.

For the backup, we are using the Veeam Backup and Disaster Recovery solution.

For the administration of the cluster, we use an intuitive and user-friendly interface called Prism. In the new solution, we do not have it yet, but we know that all functionalities will be managed using this graphical administration interface. In the old version, we had to utilize different interfaces, but now it's native in the solution itself.

The security features of this solution are not within Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) itself; we are using higher-level security solutions. Compared to Azure or Amazon, Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is not as secure, but the new edition may improve these functionalities.

I have found that in the older versions of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), there were problems with replication of Kubernetes clusters and backup of workers and pods. In the new version, all these functionalities are offered now, allowing us to perform disaster recovery and backup, marking a real improvement in the solution.

The impact of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP)'s automation on reducing manual infrastructure tasks I would rate as medium. It's not very fluent in orchestration and interface right now, but with the new edition, hopefully, it will be a big step forward.

Other areas of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) that could be improved include backup, replication, and disaster recovery. Currently, we can create the Kubernetes cluster, but for backup or disaster recovery, we have to search for third-party interfaces.

I have been working with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for four years, and we are going forward to five, and maybe after that, we will continue because it's a production platform with more than a thousand servers or virtual machines in the Kubernetes cluster.

Regarding the stability and reliability of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), I sometimes worry about incidents that occur, but we don't receive a clear explanation of what happened. This is a problem because it operates as a black box, and we can't diagnose issues as easily as on older platforms.

My team has communicated with the technical support of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), and they do have tickets with Nutanix seniors and help desk. If I were to rate Nutanix's technical support from one to ten, I would say seven. We prefer to go directly to Nutanix senior technicians instead of going through a local integrator, as it saves time.

Positive

Before Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), we used IBM platform Power series servers and Oracle databases, which were very solid but complex. We decided to switch from our previous technologies because we were looking for a more user-friendly interface. Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) is very simple to use and extend compared to older platforms.

Participating in the initial setup, I find it is not very difficult thanks to our support license, where installations and configurations are done by the integrator or Nutanix. We were observing the process as end users and seeing that it is a straightforward process.

In terms of pricing and licensing, I think Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is not very expensive and is affordable when compared to VMware or Azure.

Regarding API-driven infrastructure of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), I didn't quite understand that question. I don't think we utilize it, but I am unsure if it is there. My overall review rating for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is seven out of ten.

On-premises

As an infrastructure professional, I work with Docker and Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) marginally, primarily using Acropolis as a virtual machine system.

For container management, we utilized the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) as our management solution for containers. I used pre-configured workloads for the proof of concept environment rather than deploying through GitHub. We specifically used predefined, pre-prepared workloads with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) as our management tool.

When the system is operational, deployment becomes straightforward, making it easy to specify the number of instances needed for deployment. Basic operations with Kubernetes are quite efficient, which is something I appreciate greatly.

The security features in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) have received positive feedback from Kubernetes specialists, though I cannot personally verify these claims based on direct experience.

From my experience, Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) supports hybrid cloud environments effectively. We conducted approximately three demonstrations where customers appreciated the ability to combine multiple elements: Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), Kubernetes on bare metal, and cloud integration. Though cloud adoption remains limited in our region, this is typical for our area.

The stability of Nutanix is exceptional. When operational, it performs flawlessly and demonstrates remarkable resilience. The stability is truly outstanding, and I have absolutely no complaints.

The interface in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) deviates from Nutanix's claim of providing a single pane of glass experience. It presents a different GUI and management system, not integrated with the unified Nutanix login and screen system. It functions but appears disconnected from the main ecosystem.

A significant limitation of the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is its requirement for extensive Kubernetes knowledge. Unlike other Nutanix tools that can be installed and utilized without extensive expertise, NKP demands comprehensive Kubernetes understanding. The installation and preliminary tasks are particularly challenging. The platform would benefit from a simplified installation process with a one-click deployment option and basic configuration questions, eliminating the current manual work that requires assistance from Kubernetes specialists.

I cannot provide a comprehensive answer about automation processes in Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) as I haven't tested automation extensively. My experience has been limited to successfully deploying basic workloads through wizards, which represents the extent of my knowledge with NKP.

The scalability merits an eight out of ten because once the system is operational, scaling up is quite efficient for users who understand the process.

Nutanix technical support deserves a perfect ten out of ten. I have never encountered better support than what Nutanix provides. Their technical support is exceptional.

The setup process for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is quite complex, especially for someone without extensive Kubernetes expertise. My initial attempt at installation was particularly challenging.

The price point of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is more suitable for enterprise customers where it provides significant value. For small businesses, implementing Kubernetes independently might be more cost-effective. Enterprise users who require persistent storage, stateless systems, and scalability capabilities will find value for their investment.

Based on feedback from others, Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is considered technologically advanced compared to products from vendors such as Red Hat and Ubuntu, with competitive pricing.

I have tested Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) two or three times.

My last interaction with Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) was approximately six months ago.

As a Nutanix partner, I would recommend NKP particularly to those with Kubernetes expertise. While the platform performs excellently once configured, the initial setup can be challenging. I would rate it a seven or six out of ten, and the overall product rating is 8 out of 10.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) is good and improving day by day. Initially, there were some problems, but they fixed many of them. It is good as of now.

I use it because it is user-friendly and not difficult to handle. Everything is integrated in the UI; we can plug and play. We have Grafana, Loki, and everything is integrated in the dashboard. We can just enable it, and it will be enabled. There are no specific use cases; it is basically simple. If you know the basics of Kubernetes, anybody can use it simply.

What I like the most about Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) are the catalog applications.

Regarding catalog applications, they have an internal Git repo and I think there will be some logging operator and backup coming that will be pre-integrated in the Kubernetes cluster itself. It is a simple thing, a plug and play feature; we can enable any operators we want to use in Kubernetes in a simple way. I like that the most.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) Kubernetes dashboard itself needs improvement.

What can be improved is that every application will be getting a dashboard, where we can integrate on a dedicated dashboard and simply edit the logs, similar to OpenShift. When deploying applications, everything should be integrated with the UI, and that will be better.

I have been using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for one year.

Regarding stability, I have not seen any lagging or crashing; initially, it was unstable, but now it is stable.

Scalability is fine; I can scale the pods and nodes. Scalability is not an issue from the Nutanix side or Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) side.

As of now, I have not contacted the technical support or customer support because I solved all problems on my own. However, we have one Slack channel where I ask questions related to any doubts or issues. I have never interacted with the support team. I just go to Slack and message there.

The speed and quality of the support is good; there are no questions about that.

Regarding Slack, it is very good, and I would rate it 10 out of 10. I cannot rate formal support because I did not get any support, even though I have worked almost one year.

I have been working in my current field for one year itself, starting with Nutanix. Since I started with Nutanix NCI, I shifted to Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP).

For the initial deployment, it was quite difficult for me as I was new, but after trying many times, it got easier. I have deployed many clusters across companies and clients.

It took me one day to deploy it for the first time.

Whether one person can do it or if a team is needed depends on the situation. I am a consultant with three to four projects, so it is better to have a team.

I have not used any alternatives as of now.

I have not used Nutanix for any AI or machine learning operations, but I deployed a Nutanix end-to-end AI cluster for a few clients and tested some applications using endpoints.

We have implemented Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) for running our workloads in our government organization. We are currently testing it with our in-house applications before deploying it in production.

The platform has in-built dashboards such as Grafana dashboards and Kubernetes dashboards that allow us to monitor usage effectively. It runs smoothly without facing any downtime or issues related to Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) internally. Furthermore, scalability is a part of the solution, allowing us to predefine requirements for auto-scaling particular nodes or worker types. Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) uses NVME storage, which provides performance benefits.

There are some limitations with the non-air gap version as it requires complete internet access, which poses restrictions due to government regulations. The dashboards also face issues with internet access to repositories, such as GitHub, impacting their functionality. Installation queries exist in the air gap version, and professional support from Nutanix lacks efficiency.

The Nutanix support team isn't fully equipped with professional skills since D2iQ was procured by Nutanix, lacking seamless support resources.

The platform is stable. We have not faced any downtime related to Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) so far.

Scalability is a featured part of the solution. We can configure auto-scaling for particular nodes and worker types.

The quality of support varies greatly depending on the assigned support engineer. Some engineers lack the capability to resolve issues effectively, requiring escalations and additional work from other engineers to resolve problems.

We run some workloads on VMs or servers, experiencing no significant issues. The previous server setup provided optimal performance without facing slowness.

The initial setup encountered issues due to lack of professional support from Nutanix, especially because D2iQ was procured by Nutanix, which results in challenges with accessing proper support.

It is too early to determine the ROI. Although our in-house application is running, the production application still needs complete deployment to assess ROI accurately.

Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) overall rating would be around seven out of ten. We have not fully explored all features to the fullest extent yet. They could improve the quality of their support services, especially considering the transfer of resources from D2iQ to Nutanix.
