Horizontal scaling is streamlined when deploying modern workloads
Currently, when scaling with Amazon Elastic Container Service, I have to choose between monitoring CPU or memory usage to scale up or scale out; there is no option to monitor both simultaneously. This limitation makes it challenging to define a balanced scale-out automation since a well-written software should balance between processing and memory.

Implementation and management ease improve efficiency, while marketplace expansion could enhance adaptability
It is all about day one, which is all about implementation or deployment of a Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) cluster. Ease of deployment is the first thing which I appreciate because I can actually use something called Commander user interface. Using that, I can easily deploy Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) workload clusters. That is the beauty of it. Those options are available from the UI itself, so ease of management is present. The logging and monitoring capabilities deserve an eight out of ten because they have integration with many open-source tools and they are actually providing that as a logging and monitoring bundle where Nutanix is responsible for a single point of support. Though native encryption is available in the product, it depends on customer use cases whether they want to use their own encryption or proceed with the native encryption available in the tool.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Amazon EC2 Container Service has multiple valuable features like load balancers and autoscalers."
"They handle the backup process quite well. They automatically encapsulate it, including container backups, without relying heavily on the client's involvement. This is a significant advantage compared to other providers where clients often need to manage the process more independently. It's a feature that I find suitable and beneficial."
"What I really like about Amazon ECS is its simplicity and ease of use. Amazon also has really good security."
"It's quick and easy to have the solution working."
"The solution has good performance."
"Amazon Elastic Container Service serves the function it's supposed to serve."
"I like the per-second billing."
"The product's initial setup was very straightforward and not complex."
"The platform is easy to set up, maintain, and update."
"The platform is stable."
"Migration from public cloud to private cloud and vice versa is actually seamless using Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP), making it very handy when providing a Kubernetes platform for customers needing on-premises solutions during application modernization."

Cons

"For Amazon EC2 Container Service, providing the ability for users to select specific processor, memory, disk, and interface types might be an ideal feature. But, the practicality of offering all possible physical combinations is nearly impossible due to the underlying physical machines. AWS and Azure organize options into groups based on essential components like powerful processors or critical interfaces, considering physical restrictions. While expanding these choices is conceivable, it may not be feasible from a financial and practical perspective. Customers generally comprehend this limitation, as even in their own data centers, exact physical machine requirements are often a result of a combination of factors such as price, availability, and new machine generations."
"The pricing could be a bit better."
"The solution could provide more reliability."
"The tool initially required a significant amount of development time on the backend, but in terms of efficiency, it's a one-time effort."
"Sometimes, the instances fail under the ECS container cluster, and we have to manually go and find out the black sheep in the ECS container instance. We had an issue earlier where one of the instances under the ECS container cluster went down, and we were not able to identify that instance. The instance got terminated, but a new instance did not come up. Therefore, I had to manually get that instance up. It could be optimized better. In production, we normally cannot sustain such things. It can be optimized in terms of instances, durability, and serving the requests of customers."
"Visualization is an important factor for me, and I don't think that the visuals within ECS are good enough because it doesn't show you all the details you might need to see at a glance."
"The services are costly, which is one potential drawback. Additionally, when it comes to new-age services around AI, particularly in the areas of LLMs and genomics, these services are not fully available in our region's availability domain. These are the areas where improvement is required."
"They could provide easier options for third-party integrations similar to internal AWS services."
"There are some limitations with the non-air gap version as it requires complete internet access, which poses restrictions due to government regulations."
"They have to improve their marketplace offering for Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) which is currently limited."
