What is our primary use case?
The main use case was to address business email compromise (BEC) issues. People were logging into websites using their company email addresses, causing problems. We were getting a lot of phishing emails, like someone asking for money. We found that this was happening while using Zoom images.
So, we use K7 to block all the websites which are not necessary. It has its own model to decide whether a website is trusted or not. If it's not a solid, stable website, you can't open it on your laptop.
What is most valuable?
The one feature we use heavily is blocking unwanted websites from laptops.
What needs improvement?
One problem I'm facing with K7 is that if it blacklists a website that I need, I have to ask my admin guy to unblock it. When we whitelist it, I have to manually update my policies on my laptop for the change to take effect.
I want it to reflect automatically when something is done from the admin side. I shouldn't have to update K7 case and policy settings manually.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using K7 for about a year or a year and a half.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It does what we want it to do. I can give it a ten. I have no issues with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Currently, only about a hundred people are using it in my organization. So that's not enough to comment on K7's scalability issues.
Maybe, for our use case, it seems scalable.
How are customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The antivirus is installed on my laptop and on the servers, but I'm not directly responsible for managing it. The IT support team handles that. I've had experience with both Symantec and K7.
We used Symantec for about two years, and then we shifted to K7.
How was the initial setup?
I haven't done the K7 setup, but my admin guy does it. I think he only takes five to ten minutes, so it might be pretty easy.
What about the implementation team?
Someone else did the setup for me, so I don't have any idea.
Just one technical guy is enough for the deployment and maintenance. He is an IT support guy who sets up laptops and everything. He takes care of K7, everything. No additional web development is required.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It definitely has a price, but it's cheaper than Symantec. If it were expensive, the company wouldn't have switched to it. So, the product has a modest price.
What other advice do I have?
K7 has given us the power to block unwanted websites. But blocking websites also means blocking information.
As a developer, I need to access various sites to find answers to problems. If half the internet is blocked, it becomes difficult to find information.
So, using K7 and blocking websites might protect you from phishing attacks, but it will impact development and slow it down. Your developers will find it difficult to access information from the internet, and ultimately, your work might get delayed.
Overall, I would rate it a seven out of ten.
