Cisco UCS X-Series Reviews

For use cases involving Cisco UCS X-Series, I use it as a server infrastructure for bare metal servers and some virtualization servers. I have also integrated storage with the Fabric Interconnects and introduced Nexus switches where I took our NAS storages, and I also integrated with FI switches and SAN switches as well. I have created some network uplinks of shop uplinks, management data uplinks, and DMZ.

Cisco UCS X-Series is a totally policy-defined structure, so you have to define everything in the policy, and it is easy to use and manage. You can just change the policy, and it will globally apply to all the infrastructure. It is interactive to use and user-friendly, allowing your tasks to be done in a very good manner.

My impression of the end-to-end visibility offered by Cisco is very nice. The best aspect is their support, which has no language barrier or time issues, providing very good support, either P3 level or highly qualified support. All tools and resources are easily available on the internet, making it very interactive and feasible. The end-to-end visibility from Cisco greatly affects our organization's troubleshooting capabilities as it helps me in segregating the issues. With visibility, I can manage what trouble has occurred on the overall infrastructure side, allowing me to take challenges well by segregating the things to find out what is happening.

Regarding aspects of Cisco UCS X-Series that I would like to see improved, I was an operator and not in research, but everything seems up to the mark. Whenever I faced any type of issue, solutions were nearby, leaving me with few suggestions for enhancements.

In terms of features and functionalities for improvement in Cisco UCS X-Series, I can say that if I compare Cisco UCS with other brands, I can proudly note features that must be included in Cisco UCS X. However, my experience is limited, as I primarily worked with Cisco UCS and sometimes Dell physical PowerEdge servers.

I have been working in this field for the last ten years, starting in 2016.

Assessing operational efficiency with Cisco in our IT environment, it totally depends on how the servers are running. I have a pretty good experience with Cisco UCS X, having used Cisco UCS since 2016 and migrated to Cisco UCS X-Series in 2024. I never felt any challenge, with no blade crashes, making Cisco UCS X-Series a very stable product that ensured our services run perfectly with zero downtime.

In terms of how Cisco UCS X-Series scales with the growing needs of the organization, I can assess stability in the blade server environment at a nine and a half.

When needing to expand usage, it is very easy. You just plug in the chassis and connect the IOM cables to the FI switches, applying the policy profile on the chassis to gain access.

Evaluating customer service and technical support from Cisco, I find it brilliant. I have worked with IBM, Huawei, Dell, and other OEMs, but Cisco's support stands out.

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Cisco's technical support at around nine or even nine point five.

Prior to adopting Cisco UCS X-Series, I was using blade servers only. I am in progress and discussion to procure GPUs and currently using M7 servers while coordinating with the local Cisco team.

The initial setup with Cisco was straightforward. Deployment was very flexible as I first deployed Cisco UCS X-Series on Intersight in 2024 with advanced services from Cisco. The engineer came from Qatar to help deploy the infrastructure, and in my two sites, I could handle the production deployment on my own, demonstrating the deployment's ease.

The deployment model for Cisco UCS X-Series I used was on-site, physical deployment. I am working on the Intersight managed mode for Cisco UCS X-Series on Intersight management mode, so basically, this is an appliance I have deployed in my virtualization vCenter.

When discussing cost-effectiveness and ROI, I see it as cost-effective. Though at the time of procuring, it was very costly and challenging to convince management due to high prices compared to HP or Dell. Regarding return on investment, it is very good since I have used Cisco B200 M4 servers that ran smoothly even after support ended in 2019.

On pricing, setup cost, and licensing for Cisco UCS X-Series, I find the pricing to be very high. This is the one painful aspect.

Comparing Cisco with HP and Dell technologies, the key difference is that other products are cheaper, but when it comes to operability and stability, Cisco is number one.

My advice to organizations considering Cisco UCS X-Series is to procure it, as they will thank me for the suggestion later. I would rate this review at nine out of ten.

The main use cases are hosts and application workloads.

The features I appreciate most with Cisco UCS X-Series are profile, profile deployment, and the ability to orchestrate configurations across all of the compute. Instead of doing one-off configurations per server or per host, you can do group deployments and make configurations to all of the hosts at the same time.

An example of how these features have benefited my organization is efficiency and reduction of user error, such as user configuration errors, because it is automated. You can make the change one time and then apply it across the board.

I would say a form factor could improve Cisco UCS X-Series. We are in a life cycle replacement phase, and we face a situation where we have to upgrade the hardware, but to get to the next series, you have to upgrade all of it. The chassis, the backbone components, including fabric interconnect components that provide the networking, all have to be replaced at the same time. You cannot mix and match things.

So you get to a situation in your life cycle replacement that you need to upgrade, but it does not make sense economically to just buy a newer blade when the whole life cycle replacement is on the horizon, and you are forced to just replace it all top-down.

I would say a form factor that is more universal and is not going to require an overall hardware refresh would be beneficial.

We have been using Cisco UCS X-Series for seven or eight years.

I would assess the stability and reliability of Cisco UCS X-Series as really good.

I would say Cisco UCS X-Series scales really well with the growing needs of my organization. It is baked into the solution because of the way the templates and the policies work. If you ever get to a point where you are creeping up on your compute thresholds, you just buy another blade. As long as you have chassis space, you just slot it in, apply the templates, and add it into your virtualization environment, and you are good.

I think in earlier times, the customer service and technical support have been better. It depends on who you get. In many cases, we have engaged with our account representatives to drive the TAC cases if we have issues. Overall, depending on the issue, if it is a real complex problem, those can be difficult to get support on, but overall, support is pretty good.

Prior to adopting Cisco UCS X-Series, we were using what they call pizza box setups. Whereas Cisco UCS compiles all that form factor into a chassis that is a lot smaller, traditionally it would be one-off hosts. The space consumption was a lot more with the previous solution because it requires a lot more rack space to get all that compute into a rack.

Whereas with Cisco UCS X-Series, that is why it is really nice; you can shrink down your space consumption because of the chassis and the microblades.

I did not do a chassis deployment, but I do not suspect it would be all that difficult because of the way the templates and the policies work. I have deployed subsequent blades and that is all super seamless.

Cisco optimizes the experience in a hybrid or distributed enterprise setup, though I do not know how that would apply to my environment. I do not know in what way the end-to-end visibility offered by Cisco is referring to.

My experience with pricing, setup, and licensing has been good. The pricing is what it is. If you are committed to a product, in our case Cisco, it would have to be a drastic price increase for us to get off of Cisco because once you get acclimated to a product line, you do not necessarily want to get off unless there is a really good reason. The pricing has been good; I would say it is competitive with other hardware vendors.

I rate this review an 8 out of 10.

My main use case for Cisco UCS X-Series is to host workloads such as Microsoft workloads, including Sax and VSS, and I also use it for a camera application. Cisco UCS X-Series demonstrates very stable hardware that is more reliable than many other products. The configuration, racking, and stacking are all very easy to manage.

The best feature that Cisco UCS X-Series offers is the Fabric Interconnect with separate Fabric Interconnect switches. Having separate Fabric Interconnect switches benefits my organization because, unlike some other products such as Dell where the Fabric switch is built into the chassis, I prefer the Fabric to be separate, which is optimal even when racking in the rack itself, and I prefer to keep the Fabric isolated from the chassis.

Cisco UCS X-Series is very stable, and since I installed the UCS X-Series 9508 chassis with 210C compute blades more than one year ago, I have not opened any tickets with Cisco for hardware failure or any other issues.

The positive impact of Cisco UCS X-Series on my organization is the stability of the hardware itself. With other vendors such as Dell and HPE, we have faced hardware issues, and sometimes the blades go down without knowing the reason. Since I installed Cisco, I have not faced any hardware issues, so we depend on Cisco for hardware for our servers and for other hardware such as switches. When I mention stability, I mean no hardware issues, because when I have a hardware issue, I must open a ticket with the vendor, which takes a lot of time and affects our production.

I find all features I need in Cisco UCS X-Series until now. However, I have heard that the chassis concept may be discontinued or not reintroduced by Cisco, and I hope that does not happen. We prefer the chassis and the idea of the chassis itself with blades inside it, as it is much better for us than rackmount blades.

I believe Cisco UCS X-Series supports all our requirements. If we need to increase RAM, it has sufficient DIMMs in each blade, and I am very satisfied with this product.

I have been using Cisco UCS X-Series for more than five years.

Cisco UCS X-Series is very stable, not just stable but very stable.

The scalability of Cisco UCS X-Series is high, as each chassis has eight slots. Currently, I use four or five blades, but in the future, we can purchase additional blades. I connect four chassis to the same Fabric Interconnect, and we have two Fabric Interconnects and four chassis, with each chassis supporting about eight blades, totaling 32 blades connected to only two Fabric Interconnects.

One of the most important factors for me regarding Cisco UCS X-Series is that I have not opened a ticket with support, which reflects very good hardware with no need for support tickets. The only time I opened a ticket was during the first installation when I was informed I needed to upgrade some firmware, and the response was very fast, which I appreciate.

I have not contacted support many times, but when I did, they were very responsive, and I give them a nine out of ten.

Before Cisco UCS X-Series, I used a different solution from Dell, the Dell MX7000 chassis and rackmount blades, as well as HPE rackmount servers.

My experience with Cisco UCS X-Series shows that it is very stable, more than many other products, and I find it easy to deal with. The configuration, racking, and stacking are all very easy.

I have seen a return on investment with Cisco UCS X-Series in terms of time saved. The installation steps for Cisco UCS X-Series are very easy, and previously, I could implement two or three chassis in one day or less than five to six hours, making it very efficient.

I work with the technical aspects, and the pricing is managed by our project manager or our finance team, so I have not been directly involved in this topic. However, we have a good deal with Cisco in general, including switches and UCS products.

When I evaluated other options before choosing Cisco UCS X-Series, I encountered issues with Dell, where the blades would go down without knowing the reason, and we had ongoing issues with Dell.

I recommend using Cisco UCS X-Series more than any other products for its stability, hardware efficiency, easy deployment, and easy racking.

As I have mentioned, I hope Cisco does not discontinue the concept of chassis in favor of rackmount servers, as the chassis is very important for us. It is useful even in the data center itself and makes good organization for cables, which is better than using rackmount servers for rack organization.

I give this product an overall rating of ten out of ten.

What I appreciate most about Cisco UCS X-Series is its modularity; it is easy to configure. The modularity allows me to replace things easily.

The end-to-end visibility from Cisco improves our organization's troubleshooting capabilities greatly and makes it much easier to get everything resolved.

Cisco UCS X-Series can be improved with a longer lifespan. The products go end-of-support and end-of-life quicker than I would prefer.

I have been using Cisco UCS X-Series for eight years.

I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues that I would report on.

Cisco UCS X-Series scales with the growing needs of my organization very well. It scales as much as you need it to, with no issues whatsoever, and it scales whenever we need it to.

I would rate the customer service and technical support an 8 out of 10.

The reason for that rating is that sometimes support gets farmed out a little too much and it is not always actual Cisco employees. However, I am giving an extra point because they have established a couple of TAC centers in Canada.

Prior to adopting Cisco UCS X-Series, we deployed a couple of Windows Servers and a couple of HP products.

I have seen ROI from Cisco UCS X-Series.

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing all seems fair. It is handled by a different group in the organization, but when I compare it to other companies, Cisco is always cheaper.

We do not let Cisco address the specific challenges that we face with hybrid and distributed enterprise networks. Cisco UCS X-Series optimizes the experience in a hybrid or distributed enterprise setup by streamlining the entire experience, whether it is getting support or getting anything set up from the start.

What stood out to me during the evaluation process of coming into Cisco UCS X-Series is that the positive aspect is that once you understand it, everything is simple. The negative aspect would be the learning curve; it takes a little time to get there.

I would rate this product 9 out of 10.

I have been working with Cisco UCS X-Series. I am the end user.

I find ease of management to be the most valuable feature. It was easy to deploy. I assess the operational efficiency of Cisco in my IT environment as fine and very good.

Cisco UCS X-Series is okay, and I do not see any room for improvement. I do not know what additional features I would like to see in the future to make it better.

I expect AI integrations in the future. They need to promote the product more in order to have success.

I have been working with Cisco UCS X-Series for ten years.

The product has been stable. I have no issues with performance; it is okay.

It has also been scalable.

I would rate their technical support an eight or nine.

I have worked with other servers, mostly with most of the vendors that are brand names.

It was easy to deploy.

I find their pricing maybe expensive compared to others, but stable, with no issues and so on.

Cisco UCS X-Series is the best option on the market at the moment, but there might be new solutions in today's world. There are different developments, but when you are comfortable with something, you stay in that unless you have a reason to change.

I do not have experience with email security and secure web gateways products, and I cannot remember searching for something like that. I have done research on email security and secure web gateways, so I am not dealing with any of these. Maybe some colleagues have dealt with it, but I am not dealing with any network security products. I am dealing with Cisco servers but not with networks.

I am referring to M-Series blade servers, not rack servers. I am speaking about the blade server series, not C-Series, but M-Series. I am speaking about Cisco UCS X-Series, the blade servers. I do not know how many people are using it in my company now.

Cisco servers are popular in my region. I have been a customer of Cisco. I would give this review a rating of nine.
