Implemented an enterprise-grade SUSE Manager 5.0 environment to centrally manage Linux infrastructure across multiple distributions, including SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu, and RHEL. The project involved deploying a SUSE Manager Server and Proxy, synchronizing software repositories, onboarding clients using activation keys and bootstrap repositories, and configuring Salt Minions for remote configuration management. Implemented patch management, software package deployment, repository management, and system inventory collection. The environment supported both connected and disconnected (air-gapped) deployments, enabling secure software distribution and lifecycle management. The solution improved operational efficiency by automating patching, configuration management, compliance reporting, and centralized administration while reducing manual maintenance efforts across the infrastructure.
If I were to repeat this project, I would spend more time planning the repository synchronization strategy, storage sizing, and network connectivity before deployment. I would also automate more of the installation and client onboarding process using infrastructure-as-code and standardized scripts to reduce manual effort and improve consistency across environments.
