Useful data loss prevention, but upgrading requires replication halting
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of the SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server is the replication. We normally set it up to avoid any kind of data loss."
  • "SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server is a continuous process. However, during upgrades, there may be differences between the primary and SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server, requiring us to stop the replication. The Replication Server must have support for the database version, regardless of where it is being replicated from. Even if the database versions do not match, replication should still occur."

What is our primary use case?

We use SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server setup between our databases.

We should always be prepared for any problems that may arise, such as malware or ransomware attack. Instead of negotiating with the attackers, we should have backup copies of our application to quickly rebuild it and ensure that all data is secure. This solution will allow us to get back up and running as soon as possible

How has it helped my organization?

The application runs continuously and every update made to the current database is saved which has helped out the organization. The main goal of our setup is to have a backup plan in case of any issues with the primary database. We have an SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server or a secondary database that can help us start the application or retrieve data. Although there may be some loss, it won't be a complete loss.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server is the replication. We normally set it up to avoid any kind of data loss.

What needs improvement?

SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server is a continuous process. However, during upgrades, there may be differences between the primary and SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server, requiring us to stop the replication. The Replication Server must have support for the database version, regardless of where it is being replicated from. Even if the database versions do not match, replication should still occur.

What other advice do I have?

Anyone who has their own infrastructure or lacks one should require backup services. There should be some form of replication in place. The application is not only about having a backup, it is about maintaining continuous synchronization. If the replication server is not in place, it can lead to imbalance and lower performance. To minimize downtime, I would recommend everyone apply the SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server for their most critical databases and applications.

I rate the SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
