Working with network switches simplifies configuration, but documentation needs improvement
Configuring Nokia Ethernet Service Switches differs from Cisco and HP, presenting initial challenges due to unfamiliar terminology. While this broadens technical understanding, improved documentation and more intuitive commands are needed. My background includes experience with Amazon Cloud and Cisco devices.
What is our primary use case?
I have been working with Nokia switches for six months. Before that, I was using Cisco devices. I am involved in configuring Nokia Internet Service Switches in our network.
What is most valuable?
I believe the terminology should be simplified. Compared to Cisco, the configuring platform is different and a bit more complicated. Additionally, Nokia needs to release proper documentation, including step-by-step setup guides and outputs on Windows.
What needs improvement?
In my opinion, Nokia has to improve its documentation, offering step-by-step configuration guides and examples of what outputs look like on Windows. There should also be a comparison of commands between Nokia and other vendor devices like Cisco to help users transition more smoothly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Nokia switches for six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the stability of Nokia, on a scale from one to ten, as five. There is room for improvement.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability depends on the build people, which makes it difficult for me to assess.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before working with Nokia switches, I was using Cisco devices.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is straightforward and not so complex, although I am still new to it.
What other advice do I have?
My recommendation is to understand the basic concepts clearly before starting your career. While basic concepts might seem simple, they can be very complicated when explored in detail. This foundational knowledge is essential for building a successful career. I would rate the overall solution as a seven out of ten.
