The main use case for Digital Guardian is for endpoint DLP, as it is the product for endpoint-level DLP and is one of the core requirements for many enterprises that have to follow compliance, so this product goes wherever there is a compliance requirement, such as local regulatory compliance.

In terms of functionality, many features are valuable in Digital Guardian, as the first thing for most customers is that they are using solutions such as Boldon James and Titus, which fall under the classification side, and Digital Guardian can easily integrate with this data classification solution and has a very granular level of configuration and policy tuning.

Digital Guardian's data protection policies are indeed useful for my clients.

Regarding Digital Guardian, I find it to be a very good solution, and in fact, it is an enterprise-level solution that has very tight integration with most of the products, with Fortra but also with others.

Regarding points for improvement, from a technical aspect, I do not see any suggestions that have come to my notice, but it is an enterprise-level product, and the issue is that it works only with users or companies with more than 500 users.

I have been working with Digital Guardian for over five-plus years.

For stability, I would rate Digital Guardian a nine.

Regarding scalability, it is a 10 out of 10.

For vendor support, such as Fortra support, I would rate it a seven because all the support comes from different parts that sometimes have challenges meeting time zones, and sometimes they reroute to distributors and rely on partners.

As for the initial setup, based on my experience as an integrator, I would say it is not that easy, not very complex, but it is somewhat moderate.

In my expert view, the main competitors for Digital Guardian in the market are McAfee and Symantec.

When comparing those three vendors, it depends on many factors; the first is the customer's budget, and the second is if the customer is already using Boldon James or Titus, which is part of Fortra, then definitely Digital Guardian is a good fit because it has tight integration with this tool, but if not, McAfee or Symantec are very popular in the market with a lot of PS and technical resources for these products, and since Digital Guardian is new, especially in this region, there is less expertise in the market.

I would recommend Digital Guardian to other users, as I mentioned, we have to see the client's existing environment, and since we are not bound to sell Digital Guardian, we are open to selling even McAfee as well, so if the existing solutions and integrations can go well with McAfee, then why not McAfee? Ultimately, we look at the return on investment, what clients will get, and the benefit and security at the same time. I would rate this review an 8 out of 10.

My main use case for Digital Guardian is to prevent or stop sensitive data from being copied to USB, email, or cloud, with an example being the blocking of confidential files from being sent via email. Digital Guardian includes endpoint data protection, email, web control, insider threat protection, compliance and auditing, data visibility, and monitoring. A real enterprise example is when a user tries to copy sensitive financial data to a USB drive; Digital Guardian blocks the action and generates an alert for the security team.

Regarding my use case, I have detailed background information to explain. An employee from the finance team has access to sensitive financial reports, and before leaving the company, the user tries to copy this data to a USB device. In this step-by-step data identification process, Digital Guardian identifies sensitive files using keywords, file types, and data classification. Digital Guardian monitors user activity and prevents sensitive data leaks by enforcing policies across endpoints, such as blocking USB transfers or email sharing of confidential data.

The best features that Digital Guardian offers include deep data visibility, automated data classification, endpoint DLP, network and cloud DLP, granular policy control, data loss prevention, analytics, and reporting. I find myself using these best features, which include deep data visibility, automated classification, strong endpoint DLP, and real-time policy-based data protection across endpoint, network, and cloud.

The strong impact of Digital Guardian on my organization is in preventing sensitive data leaks to USB, email, and cloud, and in blocking unauthorized access in real time. When a user tries to send confidential data outside, Digital Guardian blocks the action instantly and alerts the security team, preventing a potential data breach.

In my experience, the area closest for improvement is the occurrence of strong false positives. Digital Guardian can generate false positives initially, which can be significantly reduced through proper policy tuning and data classification. In the initial phase, I observed some false positives due to broad policies and generic rules; however, after fine-tuning policies based on user behavior, data type, and business requirements, the accuracy improves significantly and false alerts are reduced.

I am familiar with Digital Guardian, which is a data loss prevention solution that protects sensitive data from unauthorized access, leak, or theft.

Digital Guardian has significantly improved incident response time by providing real-time detection, instant alerts, and automatic policy enforcement to stop data leakage immediately, which is my suggestion for improvement.

Based on my knowledge, I advise considering Digital Guardian. Before implementing Digital Guardian, it is crucial to clearly define data classification and DLP policies. I recommend starting with monitoring mode to understand user behavior and then gradually enforcing blocking to avoid business disruption. My overall review rating for this product is one.

The predominant usage of Digital Guardian is to effectively monitor and prevent the unauthorized transfer of data through the primary five vectors, namely Print, Email, CD/DVD, USB, and Network upload. This solution has the capability to seamlessly classify data in transit and at rest. Furthermore, it can be deployed both on-premise and on the cloud, offering flexibility in its implementation.

Some of the features that are highly appreciated are its robust data loss prevention capabilities, flexible deployment options, and the ability to monitor data transfer across multiple vectors.

Digital Guardian's data classification and protection feature is also highly valued by anyone looking to secure sensitive data and comply with regulatory requirements.

Additionally, its advanced analytics and reporting capabilities allow for greater visibility and control over data security events, enabling organizations to quickly identify and respond to potential threats

When considering potential areas for improvement, it may be beneficial for Digital Guardian to optimize its processes and reduce the computational demands on the system, particularly with regard to high CPU usage. Although Digital Guardian offers numerous benefits, it can consume a substantial amount of RAM and CPU power.

Additionally, while the console does offer agent deployment capacity, this feature currently does not function as intended and is broken. As a result, we have had to rely on a third-party solution to deploy agents. Therefore, it would be advantageous for Digital Guardian to enhance this feature in future releases.

I have been using Digital Guardian for approximately 13 years.

Digital Guardian is generally considered stable, with its robust data loss prevention capabilities being highly valued by organizations. However, as with any complex software solution, there may be occasional challenges in terms of compatibility with certain operating systems or applications. In such cases, it may be necessary to modify settings or entries within Digital Guardian to ensure optimal performance.

Overall, Digital Guardian is a stable solution that can be highly customized to meet the specific needs and requirements of organizations. As with any software solution, regular maintenance and support from a team of experts is necessary to ensure optimal performance and stability.

The solution is highly scalable. We have had at one point approximately 400,000 agents in our environment.

Digital Guardian's customer service and support are characterized by a dedicated global team that operates on a 24/7 follow-the-sun model, ensuring prompt response times in accordance with agreed-upon service level agreements (SLAs). While their primary technical team is based in the US region and primarily supports customers in US time zones, the team is responsive and efficient in providing technical support to customers across the globe.

Regarding the initial setup of Digital Guardian, it can be considered relatively straightforward. The process involves setting up two or three services on the server side and making adjustments to the agent configuration file to ensure proper connectivity to the console. The time required for configuring these settings, installing the servers, and deploying clients is generally quick.

The software bundle includes detailed documents outlining both the hardware and software requirements, as well as guides on how to configure the solution. Additionally, Digital Guardian offers the assistance of its professional services team, who can provide guidance and support to ensure a smooth deployment process.

The solution is worth the price. We have received an ROI using it.

The setup cost of Digital Guardian depends on several factors, such as the size and complexity of the deployment, as well as the level of customization required. It is recommended that interested parties contact Digital Guardian's sales team to receive a quote tailored to their specific needs.

During the initial implementation of our data loss prevention strategy, we evaluated several options available in the DLP market. Among the limited pool of competitors at the time, Digital Guardian emerged as the leading product. We conducted a rigorous proof of concept with multiple vendors and ultimately selected Digital Guardian for its advanced capabilities and comprehensive features. It is noteworthy that Digital Guardian remained an independent tool until recently when it was acquired by another company a few months ago. Prior to this acquisition, Digital Guardian had stood as a standalone solution in the DLP market.

Digital Guardian stands out among DLP solutions for its high degree of customization and scalability, as well as its impressive feature set compared to other products on the market. It is worth noting, however, that while some security vendors may offer a complete suite of security tools, relying on a single vendor for all security needs presents a single point of failure. For this reason, it is recommended that organizations consider leveraging multiple vendors with niche expertise in specific areas, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and service for each tool.

This approach also allows organizations to avoid vendor lock-in, which can limit flexibility and inhibit the adoption of new technologies. By selecting tools from a variety of vendors based on their specific expertise, organizations can create a more diverse security strategy that is better equipped to respond to new and emerging threats.

While I am not an expert in the specifics of other DLP tools on the market, I would encourage organizations to carefully evaluate their security needs and select tools from multiple vendors based on their individual strengths. I rate Digital Guardian highly with an eight out of ten but believe that a diverse security strategy is critical for organizations looking to effectively protect their sensitive data and mitigate risk.

We use the solution to solve issues the client faces with infrastructure during configuration. The solution is either customized or used as it is by default. We also use the solution for reporting cases and incident management to close cases.

I like the solution's adaptive inspection and container inspection. Whichever features can be managed by the application are the features we commonly use day to day. But that depends on the needs of the client's environment. For example, IME refers to USB thumb drives or structured or unstructured data classification. The solution is useful to monitor and control data.
A common example is PII. Digital Guardian can control and monitor the PII information in the enterprise network. It's useful if the client does not want to allow the PII data to move outside the corporate network through file transfers or email.

If the client uses Windows 10 or 11 and Microsoft updates the operating system's version, Digital Guardian must update their product to match compatibility.

It's been around four years that I've worked on this solution.

I rate the solution's stability an eight-point five out of ten.

I rate the solution's scalability a nine out of ten. I have small to large clients. For large clients, I manage 25,000 users. It depends on how many clients the customers need.

Sometimes, when I'm troubleshooting, I collaborate with the technical support.

I rate the initial setup a ten out of ten because we need to prepare and fulfill the application's system requirements, including the server and database sides, and prepare everything indicated in the system requirements. The installation is not difficult. As long as everything is prepared, the deployment takes two hours.

Technical support is included in the subscription package. But if, during the subscription, our clients want to include the professional services of a Digital Guardian engineer, the price changes. They could use professional services or bundled services.

I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten because Digital Guardian is expensive. However, the price is generally expensive because Digital Guardian is a DLP solution.

My role features use cases with vulnerabilities the current version cannot manage. We send Digital Guardian all the information they need so we can rectify or provide a solution via patch firmware or any packages built into the application.

I recommend the solution, but it depends on the environment's needs. I rate Digital Guardian an eight out of ten.

I used to sell the solution and use it for certain companies. 

We had a use case for on-premise and deployment options for the endpoint as well as network and SaaS.

If you are in the financial sector and you need to maintain compliance, it has features that protect data (such as personal information) across the organization.

Data classification and data discovery are very good.

There is a built-in endpoint detection response that helps save money. 

They make it easy to eventually move the data from an endpoint and to make policies very granular. Configuring the solution is pretty good compared to other tools I've used.

It is very stable.

The solution can scale. 

There is the potential to witness an ROI.

It's pretty easy to set up.

I do not have any notes for improvement. 

Technical support could be better.

I've used the solution for less than a year.

The stability has been pretty good overall. I'd rate it ten out of ten overall. There were no bugs or glitches. 

It does have a cloud limitation for storage; however, being able to aggregate and analyze data on the SaaS platform is effective.

I'd rate the scalability of the solution eight to eight and a half out of ten.

Since they were a new company, just starting out, they were okay yet could be better. They needed more general training and needed to have a better understanding of issues, reporting, and tracking.

The initial setup is easy. It's powered by AWS, and you can build it with your team to scale across the network. 

If a client is willing to learn the product, there is the potential for ROI. They did get bought out. However, it was a better solution than, for example, Symantec.

The cost was around $300,000.

I cannot recall the version of the solution I used. 

Users need to get a customer success manager if they buy the product. That said, it's important to do a POC first and to have a project manager in place to put everything together.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. 

We use the solution to help secure data leaks. My region is notorious for people accessing other people's data. We're looking for a solution that would help us prevent 100 percent of data leaks.

We have been able to monitor access to files from each of our workstations. For instance, if someone leaves the company, we can conduct a quick investigation to make sure no large files have been uploaded from the official workstation. This may be due to the person leaving the business and attempting to take some files with them. Digital Guardian gives us visibility into all file access, copying, pasting, and uploading of any of the files stored on our workstation.

The partner program has serious room for improvement. Digital Guardian is an excellent solution but our experience with the partner has been the most horrible experience we have ever had with any partner. The partner started the project but they did not have enough experience and when we reached out to Digital Guardian they did not provide the amount of support we expected. We did not get the full value we expected from the solution at the end of the day although we had paid for it. This made us feel stuck because we did not get what we were promised.

I would like the solution to provide more monitoring support for web-based emails such as Google.

I have been using the solution for two years.

The solution is stable. We have not had any stability issues.

We deployed a small pilot and the rest we deployed all at once. Since then, we've not needed to expand the solution. We have 1,500 workstations connected to the solution.

The technical support that we used was through Digital Guardian's partner which was horrible.

The initial setup is straightforward with a lot of documentation and the deployment was both on-premises and off-site. We have nine factories and the solution is deployed on a private cloud using a third-party data center. As long as we have an internet connection we can access the solution. The deployment took close to seven months because of the partner issues. The deployment team consisted of three people.

We used an integrator that helped with deployment.

I give the solution a six out of ten because of the experience with the partner.

We should have data classification in place and understand our data classification within our organization before we begin exploring data leak prevention solutions.

We use the solution for data loss prevention. For the host we are using Digital Guardian and we can use it for Windows as well as Mac.

It has a couple of features for data security and we find them quite useful. You can work on various areas, including the endpoints, upload, areas of the cloud, et cetera, in order to protect yourself.

The product is stable.

It has been scalable. 

In terms of working with this solution within the Mac context, there's no complete visibility on offer as compared to Windows. If they can improve on that part, it would be ideal.

The initial setup is a bit more complex than other solutions.

There should be less complexity while creating a policy or a rule. Other products make these capabilities easier.

Getting help with patching can take time. 

I’ve used the solution for more than one year.

It has been a stable product over the past year. The stability has been moderate. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn’t crash or freeze. It’s reliable.

The scalability is not an issue with Digital Guardian.

More than three blocks of endpoints are being managed right now. It’s used quite a bit. We have five to ten teams on it currently.

We’ve used technical support in the past. They can take time to fix the problem, however. If it is an L1 and L2 problem, we can manage it by ourselves. However, if there is some patch needed from the Digital Guardian side, it will take time to deal with it.

I'm using McAfee Skyhigh CASB and I have worked with Forcepoint as well. We decided to use this solution due to the fact that it was more stable.

I have worked on various DLP tools, such as McAfee, Forcepoint, and now Digital Guardian. Digital Guardian is, compared to other tools, more complex to implement. Handling that and creating policies and rule formation, et cetera, is work.

I have not deployed it yet to the digital cloud as it is currently on-premises. I don't have any knowledge about deploying Digital Guardian. Basically, I'm working on the operational part for Digital Guardian.

I have worked on McAfee for deployments and Forcepoint. However, I’m not into deploying Digital Guardian.

As a security product, we do have to procure the licensing to use it, however. I’m unsure as to what it actually costs. I don’t handle that aspect.

I’m a customer and end-user.

I’d advise new users to learn the technology as best they can. It is a good technology and the user will develop good skills. Enhance your skills if you can to use Digital Guardian, in terms of data security, to its fullest.

I’d rate the solution eight out of ten as it is more stable and has fewer loopholes in terms of sensors and agents.

My customers are using Digital Guardian to protect their data. We are doing a POC.

The most valuable feature of Digital Guardian is its reputation. They have scored high on the Gartner Magic Quadrant.

It would be helpful if there was an on-premise version of the solution for companies that cannot use the cloud, such as government sectors.

We provide the solution to the customer. If a client wants to protect data before it leaves the organization, they use this product for DLP. 

The solution protects against data leaks across various channels - USB, email, chat, et cetera. They're good at monitoring and protecting. 

The solution does a great job with data loss prevention (DLP). It protects data no matter what channel it is on. For example, if it's data via email, on a USB, or via chat communication, data will not be lost.

It's a common product with similar features to other options. However, it has the added advantage of offering forensic analysis.

The solution is stable. 

It is easy to scale. 

The solution has complexities around policy creation and deployment. The agent process is difficult. The agent needs to be lighter and more simplified. 

The implementation is pretty complex. 

Technical support could be more helpful. 

It could be a bit less expensive. 

I've dealt with the solution for three to four years. 

The solution is stable. There are no stability issues, however, if the agent is lighter and the policy creation is easier, it will be simpler. 

It can scale well. You just buy more licenses. It's very simple.

We have been working with three to four clients.

Support is the challenge. There is no straightforward support for the solution.

The setup is complex. It takes six to seven months to deploy. The policies and deployment are hard. 

It does offer cloud and on-premises options. 

My suggestion to any customer, once they choose a DLP solution, is to deploy in monitoring mode to see how data travels within and without the organization. Once you've monitored for a while, you will be able to build policies catered to the data flows. 

You only need one or two employees to deploy the solution. A consultant would be able to guide the concept. 

We are able to implement the solution for our customers. 

The solution offers yearly subscriptions. It is expensive compared to other vendors. There are no additional costs unless customers want advanced-level support. Support is not included. 

I'd advise new customers to do a POC first and do a trial for two months. When they trial, they should do it in a way that mirrors real-world scenarios so that they can see how it would really work. 

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. 

Data security is now one of the most important aspects for any organization. Our customers are looking for a DLP solution that can help them protect data. It's both endpoint and network, and "network" covers cloud integration as well.

We cover both Endpoint Data Loss Prevention and Network DLP; in fact, we cover the whole portfolio of Digital Guardian. We have both cloud and on-premise solutions. We deploy it for medium and enterprise businesses.

There are a lot of issues with the current version of the Endpoint agent. It's not stable, it's resource-consuming, and there are some performance issues. If they could improve the stability of the agent it would be great.

They need to improve their product. If they keep just adding the features, it's not going to help them to sell the solution in the market. First of all, they need to improve their existing features, rather than onboarding new features.

It's close to three years that we have been dealing with Digital Guardian.

We are facing a lot of challenges with the agent's stability. Sometimes the application fails. Sometimes it works for 10 days or 15 days and then starts behaving abnormally. I have a lot of issues related to the agent and it's still a challenge.

It can scale from 100 to 10,000. There's no problem with the scalability.

The technical support is very bad. Support has to be drastically improved.

The initial setup is complex. It is not straightforward. You need to do lot of config when you create rules and policies. It takes a lot of time to create them. It takes a lot of testing. You also need to have a little understanding of the programming language. It's very difficult to create a policy.

Deployment takes three to six months.

It can be deployed by one person, but that person would need to dedicate his time to finish the project from start to end. Otherwise, it would require a minimum of two people because sometimes engineers are not available. You have to have at least two engineers.

If you don't have skilled staff, I would not recommend going with Digital Guardian. If you are looking more into deep-dive, postmortem, or forensic analysis, I would recommend it, but you need to have patience to implement the product. You need to bear in mind that support could be very challenging. The implementation, as I said, takes a long time. So if you have skilled staff, they can evaluate and onboard the solution but if you don't know have skilled staff, I would not recommend it.

My biggest lesson learned from dealing with this product is that they commit to something but they don't deliver it. That has been my experience.

I would rate it at five out of 10. Technically the product is good but the stability is not there.
