We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features of Veeam Backup Replication are efficient backup and replication. Additionally, Veeam Backup Replication supports all products and vendors.""It is a stable product with useful snapshot and replication features.""The interface is very user-friendly.""Most of the features that we can use with HPE products are directly integrated with the Veeam. This is very important for the customers to have only one pane of glass to manage the backups and also use the HPE products for the backups.""Veeam Backup Replication's snapshotting and cloning are the most valuable features.""A simple and stable solution for small businesses that use virtualization.""The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup Replication is application awareness. Additionally, the solution is user-friendly and it has been working very well.""The features that I have found most valuable are its back up and recovery. It is a simplified backup because you can do both databases - VM and HyperV. It's a faster backup than the conventional methods because it takes up the bare metal."

"The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the graphical interface, ease of management, and overall ease of use.""The interface for this solution is excellent, and it is easy to restore files compared to other solutions.""Synthetic backup is valuable. It gives you the possibility to do a synthesized backup, which means that it combines a full backup and incremental backup data and gives it to you in one stream. So, you don't have to restore the full backup and then later go and restore the incremental backup. You can do that in one go.""It is a scalable product.""The solution was stable and reliable.""The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the easy-to-use intuitive GUI. It is very easy to understand. I have never lost data and I have been able to recover all the data I need.""We are happy with Veritas Backup Exec's stability.""It is a simple and flexible solution to work with."

Cons
"The replicating from Veeam Backup Replication to Azure cloud could be improved.""Integration with other equipment could be improved.""Veeam Backup Replication could improve by having more comparably with other hardware with the immutable copy feature.""I would like them to move back to host licensing.""The recovery and integration features of Veeam Backup Replication could improve. For example, all VM integration could improve, such as with Hyper-V and VMware.""Veeam Backup & Replication could improve by making it more user-friendly.""When you have some small issues, you should be able to go through it by yourself and solve the issue instead of opening the ticket and waiting for the engineers to troubleshoot.""Veeam Backup Replication is a bit difficult to use. If you have used other solutions such as Commvault, you will find it is much easier to use. Veeam Backup Replication does backups in a different way that is not as simple as other solutions. Doing backups of SQL Servers is much easier in Commvault. However, the difficulty could be the lack of experience I have had with Veeam Backup Replication."

More Veeam Backup & Replication Cons →

"I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically.""The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""I wish that they have an outlet for the other products from Veritas built into the Backup Exec product. For example, Backup Exec does only server backup. Currently, it is possible to read the backup of one other product, but if they can add more products so that you can just go into the dashboard of these other products by clicking on a button within the Backup Exec product, it would be great.""Veritas Backup Exec could improve the analytics. If there were some more detail in our scan reports it would be beneficial.""Whenever a job fails, it would be a great improvement to be able to resume the job from that feature. Suppose a job was started this morning and that it is going on while there are interruptions like network issues, server restart issues, server connectivity issues, services stopping, etc. For some reason, let's assume that the job failed or that it was mistakenly canceled by another person. It will be a great improvement if that failed job can be continued.""I would like to improve their ability to back up the cloud environment. Additionally, it would be nice to have simpler UI.""The solution could improve by having better documentation.""It is currently missing the dynamic backup feature for virtual machines, which is available in NetWorker. I can create politics in NetWorker to add virtual machines with specific tags, but I cannot do this in Backup Exec, which is a minus point for me. Currently, a user has to send a request to the Backup administrator to add a machine to the backup, but I should be able to create rules to automatically add a new machine to the backup. This kind of functionality is very important in current times, especially when we are using cloud solutions. I should be able to create more than one stream in a policy and specify how many streams I want to run in parallel in one policy. Currently, I have to manually create more policies to backup more than one virtual machine at the same time. Their support can also be improved in terms of response time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We use the community edition of the Veeam Backup Replication and it is a software-based license. It can be a little expensive."
  • "Several licensing schemes are available."
  • "The solution is expensive, but it's value for money."
  • "We try to use perpetual licensing, and there are no additional costs. They have recently moved to universal licensing, which is more expensive, and I would like them to go back to host licensing."
  • "We are on an annual license for Veeam Backup Replication. We could expand or upgrade the license for the Office365 features. Next year we might go to a three-year plan for support on license."
  • "The cost should be adressed."
  • "The pricing is on the higher side, so I think they have to think about the price. It's a stable product and there was no requirement to keep in touch with the support team, so the renewal license was too expensive."
  • "I don't have an issue with the price of Veeam Backup Replication."
  • More Veeam Backup & Replication Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Its price is a bit high. There is only the standard fee. There is no additional fee."
  • "I think, at least for the price I've seen, it could be lower compared to other products."
  • "The pricing of Veritas Backup's license is comparable to Veeam."
  • "I think it's sold at the right price. It's not expensive. The license is usually for a year."
  • "The pricing is reasonable."
  • "It is affordable, but I hope that the price will come down a lot because of other competitors. It is a good price for the customer, but sometimes, the competition provides a much lower price. There are two ways to license it. You can license it per instance or per terabytes of data that we are mocking up. It is enough because it is not so complex. It is good when you're working with customers."
  • "It has a good price-value ratio. Its price-value ratio is better than Veeam."
  • "I rate the price of Veritas Backup Exec a four out of five."

    Reviews from Real Users

Veeam Backup & Replication is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are its ease of set up, the fact that it is agentless, and that it has an intuitive dashboard.

A Network Operations Manager at an educational organization says, "Integration with VMware is excellent with very granular recovery."

An Inside Solutions Architect at a tech services company mentions, “I like that it's agent-less, easy to set up, and hardware-agnostic.”

An Account Manager at a tech services company states, “The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up.”

Kerem C., Director of Professional Services/Senior Solution Architect/Trainer at a tech services company, explains, “It's good for backup performance management and backup window management.”

Veritas Backup Exec is a unified data backup and recovery solution designed for small to midsize businesses. The software offers data protection for customers whether the data exists in physical, virtual, or cloud environments. Its main purpose is to ensure your business-critical data is never at risk of being lost, stolen, or corrupted.

    • Extra protection: By using Veritas Backup Exec, your organization can seamlessly protect VMware, Microsoft and Linux platforms from the same user console.
    • Cloud data protection: Veritas Backup Exec offers deployable marketplace templates for both AWS and Azure as well as certified cloud connectors for all major cloud vendors.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
