Has integrated well with internal systems and supported secure file server use for several years
The most valuable function of Symantec Endpoint Encryption is the integration with our current endpoint protection solution and its administration because it is already integrated with our operating system to Microsoft. We do not have any complaints about the solution from any management perspective, as I am not involved in technical implementation. The centralized policy control in Symantec Endpoint Encryption is useful for us. We already have it implemented. The removable media encryption in Symantec Endpoint Encryption is enabled by default, though I am not interacting with it directly.

Fast with great patching and the ability to prioritize critical work
For a customer that had 4,000 devices, and at the time they had something that only supported Windows. We suggested this product, and the client was able to manage inventory and patch beyond just Windows devices. It helped them maintain compliance and patching permissions. They could do all the patching of all the devices within a week - offering less downtime.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are the messaging features and shared folders."
"The installation process is pretty straightforward."
"The encryption feature is very good."
"The solution is easy to use."
"It helps us put antivirus solutions in place and prevent malware from getting to our machines."
"The best feature of Symantec Endpoint Encryption is the encryption itself. Encryption truly is the way to go because nowadays we are living in an era of widespread server threats, and you need to encrypt your emails and documents because you never know who might get hold of them."
"Its management is good, and it is also scalable and mostly stable."
"We have been very satisfied with the solution's security capabilities."
"The setup is pretty straightforward."
"The stability is good."

Cons

"The program's disk encryption is not very friendly with Microsoft OS updates. We have a problem with updates failing unless we use a time-consuming work-around."
"The GUI could use some enhancement, particularly in making option sets easier to locate on client machines."
"One feature that is lacking is integration with Symantec Information Centric (ICT). As it is now, I don't see how to integrate the encryption with ICT, and in my opinion this is an area that certainly requires encryption, even though it's no longer supported by Broadcom."
"There are some issues with the single sign-on with the active directory. We had a few problems related to the synchronization between the active directory and the login features of the Symantec products because the users made many password changes during the day. The time for synchronization with the solutions can be improved. I would like to see mobile encryption. There should be a possibility to include all the mobiles of a company in the console. Many customers are asking about encryptions for tablets or cell phones, but we don't have any product that we are comfortable with to recommend to our customers."
"Upgrades from one version to another may only sometimes be straightforward, especially if one needs a clearer understanding of the process."
"The solution presently doesn't let network folder encryption be done on Macintosh."
"It's difficult to integrate the solution with the DLP"
"The solution does not have endpoint control."
"I'm not on the most current version, however, I know one area that I didn't get into that I kind of wanted to is to have a mobile device management tool. My understanding is it's improved a lot from the version I have. It may be a feature that is already available."
"If they could introduce it on the cloud, it would be ideal."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Although the performance and stability of this solution are good, our challenge is the price tag. You buy the solution once, but you also have to keep on buying the licenses yearly."
"It can be expensive. However, if you plan to scale or are at a large enterprise company, this product could be what you need."
"Symantec Endpoint Encryption is not expensive."
"The pricing is fair but there is variability in our area that needs to be addressed."
"The solution is good, but it is more expensive than other solutions in the market. Other solutions, such as BitLocker are less expensive."
"They have two solutions for encryption including Symantec Endpoint Encryption and PGP Endpoint Encryption. With one PGP license, you can deploy the two solutions. The PGP license gives you two options."
"The license is not very expensive."
"Considering the fluctuation in exchange rates in our part of the world, we find it generally affordable."
