Eliminates replication and allows you to use only one database, speeding up performance and reducing amount of storage
The private solution is expensive. If you're in a situation where you're paying IBM or AWS or somebody just to host you specifically, you're paying people to run it and you're taking care of all the upgrades. As a company, you're either hiring or paying an outsourcer to do that, and you have to manage it, keep up with the updates to the hardware, software, and the operating system. It's very expensive because there's a lot to control and take care of.

Has improved data handling and customization but requires more intuitive visual design for workflows
It was kind of tough to have the visualizations with HTML, or you have to create your own page. But it was working great with buttons and every page updated pretty fast with the server capability, and it was handling a big amount of data, maybe five years of data. It was performing quite well, taking maybe three minutes to update the whole model. It has been good, but most recently, they changed the commercial methodology to get the license. Our política in the company is to hire or get licenses year by year, but most recently, TIBCO Spotfire asked us to have a three-year license term. That made things a little bit tougher for the commercial relationship. Maybe with all these automation processes that you have, those could be more visually friendly. N8N is a good example where you could connect some platforms, and you don't have to code strictly, but you could visually create an algorithm. That capability of clicking and dragging some boxes of code could actually facilitate how people create their own algorithms. It could be very useful if the coding part of using the platform could be more user-friendly in terms of visual capability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"SAP Replication Server is an application that I consider to be a robust system. It has proven to be highly reliable in my experience."
"The most valuable thing about this product is that it replicates data between SAP databases (ASE to IQ) very successfully."
"It speeds up the performance in terms of how fast you are able to access the data, look at it, get it reported to you, and send it to somebody. It also reduces the amount of storage."
"SAP is renovating different things. We are using external tools to connect as of now. It is going well, and now the new generation integration platforms are going to be pretty easy."
"It's pretty good at handling replication, even under high load. It also provides cross-database replication, for example, from Sybase to Oracle."
"This product has a catalog with the location of all the objects which were replicated, and it's very simple to maintain."
"We can customize any workflow and we also like the business domain modeling that can be done."
"It has an extremely good graphic ability, so as to present the data in a way that's very meaningful to the end user."
"One of the main features is integrated statistical analysis."
"We were able to automate manual reports, which we then email a report copy to the user's mailbox instead of someone manually creating the report and sharing it in bigger user groups."
"In my opinion, TIBCO Spotfire is the best tool that really serves the business analysis needs."
"I find the power of the information links valuable in Spotfire, as it allows complex queries to be handled efficiently."
"With a bit of experience, end users will find Spotfire wonderful for ad-hoc analysis."
"Map charts are very powerful and work better than most other in-memory analytical tools."
"The most valuable feature is the map visuals that help us connect to the geo-specialized data which is more advanced than other solutions."

Cons

"I would like to see it become mobile-friendly."
"Improvement is a never ending story, and HANA is doing some improvements. We are able to adopt that, and we have to do it by integration with HANA. They are very major changes that we need to see."
"It's complex. It's necessary to understand a little about infrastructure, like network LAN and VLAN environment."
"The private solution is expensive. If you're in a situation where you're paying IBM or AWS or somebody just to host you specifically, you're paying people to run it and you're taking care of all the upgrades."
"There is a need to improve performance in high transactional processes."
"If someone wants to replicate their data from Sybase to a newer technology for data warehousing or other purposes, it would be better if they supported those."
"There is room for improvement in terms of pricing and faster support."
"Learning to use the scripting language (Python) proved a challenge for me personally due to lack of good documentation, and the scripting editor is not so user-friendly."
"The stability is pretty good. However, if you have a decent-sized data set (maybe 100 columns by a few hundred thousand rows) and you create a lot of complex visualizations, sometimes the program will crash on you."
"Some visualizations that were customized did not display well when published to the web server."
"The look and feel is not very customizable out of the box, which is the cherry on the cake when it comes to analazing data."
"Technical support and customer service is 5/10. For technical questions, their support team is responsive and thorough, but their account managers tend to be nonresponsive, and have high turnover."
"Backend administration of the application can be difficult."
"Our política in the company is to hire or get licenses year by year, but most recently, TIBCO Spotfire asked us to have a three-year license term. That made things a little bit tougher for the commercial relationship."
"The Text Area feature needs to be more user-friendly. It is a little clunky to use, and it is difficult to consistently format text."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You can pick one of the hosted cloud services as opposed to owning it and doing it yourself. Your cost of ownership on the hardware, the data storage, and the maintenance all go down. It depends on what service you use."
"It's a very expensive solution."
"In comparison to other solutions such as IBM Cognos, TIBCO Spotfire is more affordable."
"The price-point for this solution is negotiable depending on usage levels."
"The pricing seems competitive and reasonable. The value delivered by the product far exceeds the cost."
"This product carries a monthly licensing charge, with the amount depending on the features that are to be included. This costs also covers the use of technical support."
"The solution is affordable one."
"The ROI is nearly impossible to calculate."
"The cost is a few hundred dollars per user per year."
"The Tibco sales teams have been very difficult to work with - ignoring requests, misrepresenting level of demand, etc."
