Centralizes our enterprise-wide functions but could benefit from cloud migration
We have dealt with customer service, and it was awful. For a system this size, it felt like we were merely buying software from them. They weren't really partnered with us on it. Reporting bugs and getting feedback, as well as having engineers work on issues, was very transactional. There was no real ownership on Oracle's part. During several support cases, it became difficult to determine ownership at Oracle and get status updates. The on-premises Oracle support is not great in my experience, and I think this is true in the industry. We've read about their software as a solution, and theoretically, their SaaS portal support is a lot better.

It's good for highly complex enterprises in aerospace and defense
Setting up TeamCenter is complex. Every PLM is complex unless we're talking about cloud-based solutions, but those have fewer features. However, those are only suitable for small companies. The time needed to deploy depends on the expertise of the person installing it. We can do it in a couple of hours if it is an out-of-the-box installation. If customers deploy it themselves, it may take a few days. It also depends on the complexity of the system we are designing. The amount of employees needed also depends on the size of the company and its complexity. A massive company takes an army to run the solution, but a couple of people can make it work for a small company.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Really scalable business application suite with good technical support and straightforward patching."
"Valuable features include expense management and the accounting suite of products."
"It's quite secure and fast, and we get an end-to-end solution."
"It is scalable."
"EBS has lots of application families and lots of features. It is modular in deployment and flexible enough to let the customer increase the built-in capabilities and enable new applications when needed. These are very important things at hand in case there will be a need to expand the product capabilities and/or implement new projects."
"The supplier invoice payment process is very easy and is integrated from the requisition to the payment (and to creating the asset)."
"Oracle E-Business Suite has over 20 different modules to choose from, it is comprehensive. Additionally, the integration is very good."
"It is a very consistent product on IBM. There is also a lot of knowledge data."
"I like the Teamcenter Requirements Manager. It also has a structure manager where you create an engineering bill of materials and manufacturing process planning. There is something like service lifecycle management. That is where the maintenance data is stored. There are multiple modules. ALM Polarion is also a Siemens solution. It is a separate product, but it's part of the Siemens portfolio."
"The product's most valuable features are patch and data management."

Cons

"They should include database functionality."
"We need more user-friendly fast formulas for all HRMS modules."
"Oracle E-Business Suite should be more detailed and user-friendly."
"Additional improvements could include better healthcare management functionalities, such as specialized modules for OPD and IPD for patients."
"Some of my clients report that the overall ease of use could be simplified."
"The operations could be better, specifically for manufacturing processes."
"Oracle is easy to implement at a new organization like ours, but it might be more challenging for an established organization with more rules and policies in place."
"They should have a nicer way to handle very high volumes of data because we deal with really high volumes, and sometimes, we end up with performance issues."
"This solution works, but it has many issues. Smaller companies are coming up the cloud-based PLM solutions that may replace larger PLM companies like PTC or Siemens in the future. It has some performance problems, and the maintenance is too expensive. Recently, we completed a project, and it cost almost $6 million to upgrade."
"The product's web interface and setup process could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Oracle's licenses are not straightforward."
"The pricing of the solution is at about $700-$750 per year."
"Products concerning areas like CRM and ERP should provide value at lesser costs to customers, especially if you consider that the initial cost of implementation is high."
"Licensing and costing of Oracle EBS is very complex. We recommend to use a system integrator during the negotiation process since Oracle sales representatives sometime do not know the actual minimum requirements and may oversell the necessary licenses through ignorance."
"Oracle has different licensing models available. For example, concurrent user license metric and power unit licensing metric. It is different from product to product, but for the application itself, the license is by the number of users."
"Oracle's pricing is on the higher end."
"At our various customers, the software tends to pay for itself in less than two years."
"The pricing is high."
"It is costly for small businesses."
