Centralized controls have improved privileged access and simplified compliant audit workflows
We use One Identity Safeguard as a central control point for all our privileged access, which helps standardize the access policies across teams and platforms. We also use it for the approval workflows, which are enforced for high-risk systems and add an extra security layer for production access. I have been using it for one and a half years. The best feature I appreciate is the session proxying and recording. It provides transparent session access for admins without exposing the real passwords. Another valuable feature is automated password rotation, which changes the credentials automatically after each use or on a schedule. It reduces the risk of leakage and reuse of passwords. Additionally, the approval workflow and the access request feature add governance with multi-level approvals for sensitive systems. These are the features that I appreciate the most. When we started using the session proxying and recording features, overall, it was a manageable and fairly smooth process for us. However, like most security platform deployments, it had a few learning curves. Session proxying and recording worked with our major systems including Windows, Linux, and network devices with minimal configuration. Some devices and services required slight changes to firewall rules and configuration to ensure the proxy could connect cleanly. Additionally, our admins needed orientation so they understood they were joining a recorded session, particularly for remote or support use. We spent considerable time adjusting the session filtering, retention settings, and naming conventions so recordings were useful and not overwhelming. These are some areas where we encountered challenges.

Pros

"The auditing and approval mechanisms are features we did not have before and are greatly appreciated."
"I like the discovery functionality and the change password feature through the check-in. I also like the bulk import with the help of templates that come with it out of the box. With the help of these few features, my tasks are made easier."
"Being able to use a proxy server is an advantage."
"It has greatly helped improve our security posture. Safeguard has an option where it will reset passwords on service accounts, then go out to those servers where that service account is running as a service and update the password on it. That makes password changes very easy. We can regularly change passwords now and are planning on making it an annual activity, where all the people who own service accounts will go in and make sure all their passwords get changed, updated, and reset."
"All sessions are audited and they are indexed/searchable through the GUI."
"The whole product solves the privileged access management challenge for our company. We have a secure tunnel, a secure session manager, and automatic logging of sessions, which is good for forensic purposes. We have a rich level of logs and can trace what happened on which machine and see who did what."
"It provides secure and centralized access to both on-prem and cloud servers, which we did not have before. Previously, there were myriad ways to access our servers, so this centralizing feature is beneficial."
"The transparent mode for privileged sessions is one of the best things for customers, because they don't see the system in-between."
"The most valuable features of Securonix UEBA include insider threat monitoring, which provides complete visibility of user activities, and next-gen AI-based behavior analytics."
"The feature dashboard is very well organized and intuitive to use. It organizes information on a timeline which is exactly what we need for insider threat future-analysis."
"One of the most valuable features is UEBA. It's pretty helpful for us to make sure of our thresholds for any of our clients."
"The most valuable features of Securonix UEBA include insider threat monitoring, which provides complete visibility of user activities, and next-gen AI-based behavior analytics."
"Their user and entity behavior analysis algorithms are the most valuable features."

Cons

"Some of our users find the functionality a bit complex, and it could be made more user-friendly."
"The Transparent Mode could be somewhat easier to use."
"We currently have a problem with the Active Directory integrations on Windows. Some of our users need to be logged with Active Directory, but we are having communication issues between One Identity and Active Directory. It seems that Active Directory is not well-integrated."
"I just received a question from a customer in regards to a connection with Oracle OID. I tried to integrate Safeguard with the Oracle YAML as well as something else to manage the groups and users from a different system, like AD or LDAP. This one feature could be better. At this moment, the platform system can only use the integration with LDAP or AD. The software for research and development to create a connector to a YAML platform can be very complicated."
"I would like to see an adjustment with more enterprise architecture. You can buy multiple appliances but you can not fully separate different functions, so scaling might be a bit more complicated."
"I would like to see support for RDP over HTTPS so this product can be used in conjunction with the Microsoft terminal."
"One Identity Safeguard can be improved by fixing the documentation, which is very convoluted as of now, and addressing versioning, as some major bugs and issues are not documented well enough in the documentation, along with some patches and fixes."
"For some users, the physical appliance has been a bit buggy."
"There is room for improvement in the algorithms. Although I said that we have a very solid starting point - our existing library is already very comprehensive - we constantly find areas where we need to develop new algorithms. That is common across platforms. Any vendor with a solid starting point would still need to continue to evolve."
"The area that needs improvement is reporting."
"The support system is not very good as of now."
"The integration with other tools, like EDRs and other technology tools, can be improved."
"When compared to others, if you look at the integration aspect, I believe that some aspects of integration can be enhanced."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is more expensive than Secret Server but way less expensive than CyberArk. As a customer, I would like the pricing to be lower, but it has a good price point."
"The license is very expensive for us, partly due to inflation and partly because of the exchange rate between the Dollar and the Iranian Rial. We purchased a perpetual license that we've been using up until now, but I believe that we are not going to update it in the future. Instead, we plan to find another third-party to support us with the license, in the sense that we would have access to their license as a shared agreement."
"As compared to other products, it is reasonable, but the training sessions are too expensive."
"Its subscription cost is too much, and sometimes, it is very difficult to pitch the solution to the management for cost approval. If the cost is reduced a little bit, it would be easier. If its cost was less, many other organizations that currently cannot afford it would be able to use this technology. I'm sure many organizations around the globe are having issues with identity management, and it is a very difficult task for IT to manage privileged accounts."
"It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. You don't want to get anything too cheap because then you get cheap stuff and cheap support. That really never helps anybody."
"We bought their other products, so it was not that expensive. It is one of those where the more you buy, the cheaper it is."
"The full license is expensive but if you plan to use it in a big organization then it is the best option because it is more flexible."
"Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
"Their pricing is pretty comfortable. They will work with you on the cost."
"The cost is approximately $50 per user per year."
"When compared to other solutions, it is less expensive."
