Comprehensive data protection and reliable backup capabilities enable smooth disaster recovery operations
The features of Quest NetVault Plus that are most valuable include the ability to pick up and restore to tape servers and external hard disks. It allows us to pick up from devices and then restore to the same devices or external server storage. Additionally, the application supports scanning files for malware before backup operations.
Ahmed Handal - PeerSpot reviewer
Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great."
"The interface is very user-friendly."
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."
"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes."
"The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration."
"Quest NetVault Plus is quite effective for managing backups across multiple systems because we don't need to log in to the backup server to manage it; it's web-based, so from any system in the network, you can log in and manage everything."
"Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one."
"The user interface is good."
"The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage."
"The most valuable feature is that the backup and restoring process is very fast."
"It’s quite scalable."
"The solution is very stable...The solution is very scalable."
"The utilization of Data Domain is crucial because of its integration with a key Veritas feature: retention lock. This feature ensures data integrity by preventing any alterations to stored data. When NetBackup interacts with Data Domain, enabling the retention lock feature ensures that neither administrators nor backup personnel can modify data stored within the system. This functionality is vital for compliance purposes and meets the requirements of auditors."
"NetBackup Appliance's most valuable feature is the duplication encryption standard feature."
"The tool is easy to use, stable, and performs well, but it depends on the environment where it is deployed. It is leaning more toward huge enterprises where it is positioned. It needs to be as easy as others but addresses more complex requirements."
"It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use."

Cons

"The initial setup is a little complex."
"I would like to see the option of cloud-based management."
"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency."
"There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."
"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault."
"Improvements should come, particularly in compatibility, backup performance, or better troubleshooting."
"The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find."
"Improvements could be made in the deduplication and data management capabilities. There is also a need for better security measures, as security is critical to ensure backups are safe and free from malware."
"The response from the support team has not always been quick, so sometimes there is a risk."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"The graphic interface is complex, especially on the management and administrative side, requiring multiple steps for configuration instead of simple clicks in the console."
"The product should provide more AI and ML features."
"Improving the interface could enhance user experience."
"One area needing improvement is to facilitate Oracle database restores using the GUI on the NetBackup Appliance."
"The price is slightly expensive for small and medium enterprises. If they can review the prices, we feel it would be beneficial, especially for the African market."
"The costing part is on the higher side. The reporting could also be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
"When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
"The tool is expensive."
"The licensing costs for this solution are very high."
"The solution is not cheap"
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price, I rate the solution's pricing an eight."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The product's price is high."
