We performed a comparison between Nakivo and Veeam Backup Replication based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Based on the parameters we compared, Nakivo finishes ahead of Veeam. Users felt that Nakivo helped reduce costs, has excellent automation and is very scalable. Nakivo helped users save time due to its simplistic, reliable processes. However, Veeam users did feel that Veeam’s cloud version needs more maturity to be competitive in today's market.
"Nakivo's backup and replication product has allowed us to implement a disaster recovery solution with a target repository in the cloud."
"The ability to use a variety of cloud providers rather than being tied into one is a huge bonus."
"The features that we like the most are the Backup Copy and Active Directory Integration. They have helped us to save a lot of time since we do not have to make the backup copies “by hand”."
"The easy management and a good overview are the most important aspects."
"The backup and replication are great."
"The solution has a user-friendly interface and is easy to configure."
"We have found all the features of Nakivo to be useful and the solution is easier to use compared to Proxmox. It is user-friendly, we are very satisfied."
"Backup jobs are running smoothly every day with job reports sent to email after they finish each job. That gives us peace of mind."
"Veeam Cloud Connect has helped us to reduce the cost of cloud storage for an offsite solution using their archive storage feature."
"The product could be improved if they wrote more PowerShell scripts for controlling Veeam."
"It is a stable and scalable solution that's easy to operate and restore."
"One of the most valuable features is the incremental backup. It is, of course, perfect because you have a lot of restore points, but you don't need all the space. The stability is also perfect."
"The good thing about Veeam is that its initial setup and usage are straightforward."
"The backups we have been receiving from Veeam Backup Replication on-premise have been good."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The technical support is excellent. It's one of the best I've met so far."
"There are many features we have not had the opportunity to try, such as Tape Backups, Office 365 backups, and many other things."
"Updating VM tools on a replicated VM could be better."
"I would like to see some additional models in the next release to make backups more functional."
"It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release."
"Due to the fact that we are HP and Fugit partners as well, it would be nice if Nakivo would allow support for HP and Fugit storage."
"One of the things I liked least about this software is when an update was pushed to one of the servers we had, somehow we didn't receive the update and needed some quick troubleshooting."
"The only thing I could say is maybe some more options for job scheduling are needed."
"In terms of what could be improved for the next release, I would probably answer better documentation and licensing models."
"The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP."
"Immutability could be improved."
"Could offer a better conclusion of the backups."
"I would like to see the licensing model improved. They have recently changed the model and have made it more complicated."
"We have had problems with some jobs. For example, when we have a VM with a large SQL Database, sometimes we cannot adjust the time for transaction logs to back up and overlap time."
"I think that Veeam could improve some performance issues when the backup itself is restored. I'm also using HPE StoreOnce, which has deduplication, and when I'm trying to test or run backups, it takes a lot of time. I think they could improve the testing for backup copies."
"The VMotion feature is not reliable enough to ensure a successful migration operation."
"Veeam Backup Replication could improve by having more comparably with other hardware with the immutable copy feature."

The functionalities are almost the same. Nakivo is available at a lower price.
If you don't need advanced storage integration there is no difference.
Nakivo offer almost the same functionality of Veeam at a lower price.
They have the same functionality except that Nakivo allows the backups to be immutable, thus, providing protection against malware (backups cannot be moved, deleted or changed) It has 1/3 of the price but sometimes there is a direct deal.
For me, Nakivo has all Veeam features and also supports Oracle RMAN backup.
Nakivo has a very flexible deployment compared with Veeam (it supports the deployment using Windows and SQL only). It can be installed on NAS, VA, and many more. Most of the things have a reasonable price.
