Interactive dashboards have transformed restaurant data into faster daily business decisions
Microsoft Power BI has many features and there is not a lot to improve. However, the licensing can be confusing. When deciding between Pro and Premium, I find it difficult to distinguish what features are offered by Pro and what features are offered by Premium, including the particular differences to choose between both licensing models. Additionally, some features such as DAX, which I mentioned previously, involve DAX calculations and complex data modeling, which are somewhat advanced and not easily understandable. Prior knowledge is required or you need to go through the documentation. If the documentation is made comprehensive so that anyone with no knowledge on DAX can easily use it by going through the documentation, it would be really helpful. Additionally, if the integration with non-Microsoft tools is improved and performance is optimized, then Microsoft Power BI can become a top-ranked visualization tool. The user experience with Microsoft Power BI is quite good. The intuitive user interface makes it easy for both technical and non-technical users to create reports. However, only the advanced features are somewhat complex, and if the documentation is improved, it can be easily accessible.

Real-time executive visibility has replaced spreadsheets and drives daily sales decisions
Toucan Toco offers excellent features, including the quick ability to create Stories and KPIs based on the data that we're storing in our data warehouse. We leverage the functionality within Toucan Toco to quickly build out a code-free environment, providing a code-free way of sharing both graphs and KPIs to track and deliver visibility to key data elements. Toucan Toco has positively impacted our organization because we previously were using Excel spreadsheets to share data out to the team, and now we're using Toucan Toco to share information in real time. This shift to real-time sharing has brought clarity to consistent metrics and real-time visibility to activity.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has centralized our organization, democratized dashboard and report building, and provides a centralized format."
"The AI support is really good, and we have plans to use the AI mechanisms and algorithms that Power BI uses to publish more easy-to-understand reports for our customers."
"Easy to use. End-users can make changes to the graphics."
"The demand estimation and forecasting profitability are the most effective features of Microsoft Power BI, along with vendor and supply chain risk analysis, inventory and stock forecasting, real-time production monitoring, and quality control through defect tracking and root cause analysis."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"One of the key benefits of Power BI is how easy it is to develop reports."
"Being able to transfer data with the Power Query feature is great for teaching with about one to two hundred rows of data, and I am also able to see the relationship between multiple tables and create various sheets and dashboards."
"Power BI reduced time to develop and deployment projects."
"Toucan Toco has positively impacted our organization because we previously were using Excel spreadsheets to share data out to the team, and now we're using Toucan Toco to share information in real time."

Cons

"Its price could be better. Its licensing cost is very high."
"We would like to have better SQL support for queries."
"It needs an AI which can choose the appropriate connection strings and provide options for connections."
"When I create measures, sometimes the error messages aren't clear. It makes me spend more time searching for solutions. I need the error messages to be more specific. So, I would like clearer error messages when creating measures."
"SSRS reporting portal cannot run on tablets, iPads and all other mobile devices."
"There are some limitations in Power BI; you have to work in the Power BI base. However, if you want something not out-of-the-box and you want something custom, you have to do a lot of work."
"Power BI doesn't support some open-source data sources that are new, such as SnowSQL, Iceberg, or ClickHouse."
"End-user tools such as Excel is not good enough for all business scenarios."
"I chose nine because Stories can cascade on top of each other and be a bit complicated when they create multiple data sets underneath the Stories to manage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The costs are small and the benefits are high."
"I would advise that Microsoft BI products are rightly priced and the licensing is easy to follow and to fulfill."
"From a cost point of view, it's competitive in the enterprise space, although it's not as competitive when you add up all of the additional costs. Things like integrations cost extra and it's probably where Microsoft makes more of the money."
"I have not had a customer suggest the solution is too expensive. There are licenses to use the solution."
"It is part of our Office 365 license."
"Regarding cost, the initial investment wasn't too high, but ongoing licensing could add up."
"In the beginning, the solution cost approximately $1,000 per month, we have a Microsoft startup subscription. There is a subscription pack for startups company which we are able to have for one year."
"There is a license for this solution and we purchase them annually."
