Efficiently keeps track of how many mailboxes are created, how many are deleted, and things like that
We can keep track of how many mailboxes are created, how many are deleted, and things like that. It's a necessity for auditing to use a tool to monitor email tracking. So, it helps a lot with compliance. We can use the dashboard to see which Exchange servers are currently having issues, their health, and other details. The GUI is very good.

Data integration has improved reserving and expense control while collaboration drives fast dashboards
Regarding drawbacks or weak points in Microsoft Power BI, it may not be directly related to the tool itself, but with our architecture, as we couldn't get a service account, which is an email address that has no relationship with the employees, just to establish the connection with Anaplan. We couldn't get it to work on SSO, so we use an employee account which could be a point of weakness, meaning if the person leaves, that connection will break. If the person goes on holiday and we need to refresh, we have to change the connection as well, but we have to live with that since we're not using SSO on the service account. Regarding the natural language processing feature, we're trying to avoid using it too much because it can slow down the connection, so as much as possible, we try to build the logic and any transformation in Anaplan, and then deliver an end product to Microsoft Power BI.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The email traffic analysis feature is very useful."
"We can use the dashboard to see which Exchange servers are currently having issues, their health, and other details. The GUI is very good."
"Alternatively, if you just want to use what is available to you, and with a little bit of UX/UI knowledge and creativity, you can build really cool stuff with it."
"It is good for us for onboarding the data; we can connect to multiple data sources, do transformations to make the data usable, and then model it within the transformation."
"The Microsoft Power BI app is very good. It's also very flexible."
"The most interesting feature of Microsoft Power BI is that it's very user-friendly."
"Our customers really like the dashboard."
"Anybody who has worked on existing spreadsheet-based solutions can quickly adapt to Microsoft BI and the data visualization and interactive data features, they'll find it very exciting to use and very fast to adapt to it."
"Very high, as it is a very cost effective application compared to any BI tools in the market."
"My favorite feature is the power query editor, where it can do the data transformations."

Cons

"I am primarily interested in reporting and automation improvements."
"There is room for improvement in the reporting, maybe having more customizable reports would be good."
"If you have to pull multiple data sources performance is somewhat lacking."
"The user interface could be a bit more intuitive so that it's a bit easier to use."
"The mobile app is very poor."
"Our expectation is putting BI to work in real-time data collection systems in the maritime environment."
"The significant drawback I notice is that Microsoft's size makes it hard to get specific change requests addressed unless they involve a bug."
"The solution is somewhat costly in comparison with MSBI tools."
"The look and feel should be updated in terms of the types of dashboards and graphs that you can produce. They aren't as visual as some of its competitors."
"The graphic interface could be better. I would also like to see it mobile-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate the pricing a four out of ten, where one is low price and ten is high price. It is affordable."
"The pricing of Exchange Reporter Plus is very reasonable."
"Setup is easy, and the cost is economical. You do sometimes need to pay additional costs for third party products which "plug-in" to Microsoft BI."
"The current licensing model that Microsoft BI has is expensive. My customers have told me the cost is approximately $20 per user and this can get expensive fast. There should be a one-time purchase option if the customer has a lot of users."
"The price of Microsoft BI is expensive. We found the price of Tableau to be less expensive."
"It is somewhere in the middle in terms of price. Licensing is quite clear."
"We pay for users who are publishing on the cloud. The desktop version is free. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The cost of the solution is more flexible for us because the desktop is free and we pay as we use it in the cloud."
"The cost of this product is very low, at approximately $8 or $9 per month for a developer."
"In general, Microsoft BI's price is lower compared to Alteryx."
