Efficient log management enhances activity monitoring despite VPN user issue
Last month, we faced an issue with a Hawaiian VPN user activity. It's like a Fortinet device configured for VPN users. When a VPN user logs in, it doesn't really capture the time before this. If you're testing with existing or new device integration, then the product will be good in the market.

Comprehensive monitoring has improved performance, capacity planning, and multi-source log analysis
VMware Aria Operations for Logs would be used to completely monitor the health of your environment. Second is to understand your existing capacity and forecast your capacity for the next year or so. Third would be on performance management, understanding how the environment is performing, and what has to be done to optimize it. We use VMware Aria Operations for Logs for these purposes. We also use VMware Aria Operations for Logs to monitor non-VMware components as well. VMware Aria Operations for Logs is now part of a bigger suite with several modules added. You have an option to collect logs from various sources and then you can do some sorts of analytics from it as well. All of this can be done with VMware Aria Operations for Logs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have made use of technical support and am certainly very satisfied with them."
"It's one of the easiest products. It's very simple to use."
"The dashboard for administrators or assigned engineers can identify vulnerabilities, activities, infected systems, large files, or DDoS attacks."
"ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer was a lower-cost alternative, and it was easier to install and manage."
"The initial setup was very simple and straightforward, according to our security team."
"The tool's reports show activities."
"The support system is very good."
"It is stable."
"Log Insight correlates with the VMware product log, and it can assemble the logs you want, making it easier to find the output, incident, or keyword you want to search."
"We are using it because we have a VMware product. It has its own built in dashboards for VMware products, and that's a good thing."
"The most valuable features are log centralization and long-term retention for logs."
"The events are notably more descriptive, aiding in security and event analysis. We've also integrated Sky Collector, providing valuable insights and solutions for troubleshooting."
"It is a highly stable solution...It is a highly scalable solution."
"The setup costs can sometimes be a bit expensive but I think for the technology they are offering it's top of the mark."
"It is a scalable solution; I can say that I agree with the claims that it can be scaled, it is an awesome product, and organizationally it is able to cover our needs completely."
"Log Insight seems to be better than other solutions in terms of very good integrations and working out items to be able to log."

Cons

"I would like to see more detailed reports."
"The solution is stable. However, there are limits. For example, we can do 2,500 Syslog events per second, but if we want to do more we have to install the distributor structure, and then we can expand how many events we can do. They could improve the stability."
"The customization of reports could be a lot easier. It is not difficult but it could be made easier."
"The product does not have certain advantages, especially the correlation tools. It was not working as per our expectations."
"The scalability is limited."
"It may not be as easy to use as Splunk."
"Last month, we faced an issue with a Hawaiian VPN user activity. It's like a Fortinet device configured for VPN users."
"Support could improve to make the solution better."
"If data migration occurs during a search, it alters performance, causing delays."
"The solution is a very good tool, but it has a lot of limitations."
"The product is really expensive compared to other products in the market."
"It needs better integration with third-party analytics tools."
"The tool does not provide a centralized pane for monitoring."
"In vRealize login files, we have limitations regarding log partitions."
"Paid or free does not matter, but it is complex to find good training material for vRealize Log Insight."
"My experience, however, is that Log Insight is not user friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer is expensive. Its licensing costs are annual."
"Licensing for ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer is paid yearly."
"ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer is a low-cost solution. It costs approximately $1,000 per month per server for a perpetual license."
"We paid for the license of the solution and the deployment. The price of ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer is less expensive than other solutions."
"There is a yearly subscription for the solution."
"There is a license required for these solutions. The customer can choose the license type, such as an annual license purchase or a perpetual license. If the customer wants maintenance they will have to pay annually."
"I am not sure what the exact cost is. However, I believe the vRealize suite costs $2,500.00 per year."
"The license cost for any other monitoring tool is too high compared to this product."
"It is not cheap. But it is worth it."
"The product's price is reasonable, but when it comes to SQL licensing, it's a bit expensive."
"The licensing cost for vRealize Log Insight is a little higher, so in terms of cost, it all depends upon what kind of environment you have. If you have a complete virtualized environment, or at least you're using a ninety-five percent virtualized environment, then vRealize Log Insight will play a very good role because it is a VMware component, so it has very tight integration with other VMware components and systems. This means you don't have to procure any other monitoring and management tool, and you don't need a separate automation tool. vRealize Log Insight will have an upper hand if your environment is purely virtualized on VMware. If you're using a mix of physical and virtual components, for example, a 50:50 ratio, then you need to have a third-party component to manage overall monitoring."
"Pricing is good because it is part of the suite package. It comes in a bundle for us."
"I rate the product's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"The pricing has been updated recently."
