Collaboration has improved through simplified document access and controlled sharing
SharePoint is definitely used to keep a record of our files and data. The capability is quite good because it is time-saving. I have used it only four or five times, but it has been very helpful to keep all my information in a consolidated manner. The search feature is one of the most beneficial factors that we use to filter out the latest data or the latest file as per our convenience and use case. When you have a large repository, this feature is particularly valuable. Role-based access control has been helpful while developing the knowledge platform. The roles were defined clearly, which made it easy for the four or five of us to work simultaneously and collaborate on our project in a similar manner.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are able to handle more than one hundred POs at any given time with their shipping docs and info, with only one person in charge."
"It has good integration with other MS products."
"It allows for simultaneous users to be on it."
"There is not just one valuable feature; it is all of them working together."
"The SharePoint interface is adequate and also a little bit faster."
"SharePoint has an option where you can open files on the browser, whereby more than five people can make amendments to one Excel online file."
"The search feature is valuable."
"SharePoint's collaborative features are valuable as they enable productivity by allowing multiple users to edit documents simultaneously."
"Our staff found it simpler, as they did not have to work within a classification system."

Cons

"The search engine could be improved and also provide some kind of indexing."
"Microsoft support could be better, especially for enterprise troubleshooting. They require a lot of logs and often rely on online support, which does not meet customer expectations."
"Improve the user-friendliness."
"I have been facing some challenges when using SharePoint, as the workflows freeze at times, so there is a maintenance activity which needs to be done periodically."
"SharePoint designer workflows can be buggy sometimes without any apparent reason."
"Make it more intuitive."
"Flexibility and extensibility, above everything, could be improved."
"Annoyingly, many new Office 365 apps always end up being only US locale for the first year of their life. Microsoft needs to realise that most of their customers are not in the USA."
"It would be nice if the editing and setting up of SharePoint were more user-friendly, so I do not have to have an expert to deal with it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The product is reasonably priced."
"Licensing can be by server or by seat."
"The replacement costs for it are cheaper if you use only SharePoint."
"It is pretty reasonable. It is $5 per month per user. We have 12 users now, so it is about $60 per month."
"The data classification and search elements are cheap."
"They are about an eight in comparison to other similar products."
"The pricing works for us."
"For this type of solution, it is not wise to buy it without Software Assurance."
