Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use it for various use cases, including data provisioning, data validation, continuous monitoring of data quality, and data standardization."
"Informatica Cloud is easy for development and maintenance."
"I used IBM InfoSphere before but Informatica is much, much better; gold standard."
"The Mapping Configuration and PowerCenter wizards are valuable. We use them to run our business logic."
"Informatica is user-friendly, stable, and scalable. These three aspects are the most valuable for us. If we can make it work well with the CRM, we can continue or try again this year to complete that part of the project. I am confident that this kind of solution is what we need because we have a third-party resource that works in the development."
"The product is stable."
"I recommend Informatica because anyone with a bit of knowledge, even a beginner or intern, can explore, learn, and accomplish development tasks without much difficulty."
"I know that there are two good features, APN and ServiceNow but we haven't explored all of its features yet."
"With this application, if data was entered manually with a system whose data we migrated onto the DRM system, we can automate 90% of that manual entry."
"Implementing the workflow portion of DRM which is called Data Relationship Governance (DRG) the client cut that time down to an hour."
"It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"Using DRG within Oracle Data Relationship Management has been beneficial for our organization."
"DRM customer service is top notch since it is a small set of people that use it."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to use JavaScript in formulas."
"As a product that integrates out of the box with Oracle EBS and Hyperion the product has proved to be a great step forward in allowing us to manage reference data across multiple platforms and something that we were able to deploy quite easily."

Cons

"Right now, although they offer some templates, I would want more templates available to be imported."
"Perhaps the web services need to improve because when you create a new data file and add some changes, we must edit it and create a web service transformation again."
"They could provide more robust performance for data integration processes. It would help in improving the data quality more efficiently."
"The tool should provide a unified user interface to manage the data objects."
"The cloud version of the Informatica, it's a very substandard product. They might say it's enterprise-ready but it's not at all ready."
"I used to use this tool more but recently we have been using another tool that we feel is better because it handles spatial data. Informatica Cloud Data Quality could improve by adding the ability to handle spatial data."
"I think they should work really hard on UI."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration could improve the price by making it less expensive."
"The ROI will be a few years. DRM/DRG is really expensive."
"If you hard-code values into the properties, you'll get customer complaints that DRM is "running slow."
"Integrating with non-Oracle products needs improvement, it only provides a text output file."
"When we moved to the cloud, it was extremely complicated."
"Better external connections and API integrations are needed."
"Improvements are needed in the fees and the licensing part. The tool's price can be made lower."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"The price is neither too high nor too low."
"The price is comparable."
"Informatica MDM's pricing is not cheap but comparable to other vendors."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"Its pricing model can be improved."
"Informatica is very expensive."
"It's a very expensive solution"
"The price of the solution is very, very high."
