Application protection has improved and reporting and dashboards still need refinement
I believe Imperva Application Security Platform should have a more interactive wizard. While the dashboard is good, it could be more eye-catching. Based on my perspective, I recommend modifying the dashboards, especially the main dashboard where I can see the traffic hit count, alerts, and other latest information. In terms of reporting, I find it challenging to create reports; in my earlier days, it was difficult. Over time, I have learned how to create reports, but it should be easier to do so. I have used other tools such as firewalls or SolarWinds, where creating a report is straightforward and does not take much time, unlike in Imperva, where I have to add many elements. Modifications in the integration aspects would also be beneficial.

Improved API data protection and threat detection have reduced manual work but reporting still needs refinement
The documents for the initial setup are very limited, making us rely heavily on the vendor to install the setup, which can be costly. Each license costs a lot for our organization, and while we placed a few licenses in a confidential project, using it broadly requires more licenses, which is not financially feasible. Proper training is also crucial; we spent around two and a half years in a UAT environment to train the AI to understand our organization's policies before deploying it in production. While this approach has worked smoothly, we identified a need for better and more user-friendly reporting. If we discuss national IDs, different countries have different national ID formats. Whenever we install Traceable AI, we need to inject our own configurations for the national IDs of various countries. If they use a real-time social security number or national ID sites in the future, it would be easier for us if the process were more flexible.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution can scale."
"Its inline transferring mode is the most valuable because it is 100% transparent. When you change the IP, there is no change on the network side. If you can't and want to try to reach an IP, you can reach the server IP. There are many other advanced security features in it. The smallest appliances of Imperva can handle the highest traffic at a customer site. For example, a smaller appliance from Imperva can provide you the same security as an F5 product."
"There are a number of features that are valuable such as the account takeover and various antivirus features."
"This implementation helped our organization a lot in handling web attacks by hackers and other malicious intruders."
"Overall, I am really happy with this solution."
"The bot management features are very effective, as they help filter unwanted traffic using keywords."
"There is no need to have an in-house WAF to manage and maintain; we are now able to bring a new website live within minutes, without false positive alerts, and it has improved user/customer experience and website performance."
"Imperva WAF's strongest features are the detection of web application threats and vulnerabilities in the source code."
"We have seen a return on investment from Traceable AI due to improvements in accuracy and security, as it enhances our legal processes, reduces human intervention, and has shortened the time spent gathering data from three to four weeks to one to two days, which translates into direct and indirect benefits."

Cons

"The only disadvantage of Imperva is that it is a pretty costly solution."
"Customer Service: Average to poor. Technical Support: Average to poor."
"There’s nothing that’s missing in terms of features."
"It would be useful if the solution used more intelligence in attack protection. For example, firewalls are to be dependent on the configuration, but if they could have some data science around it the solution would be even better. The profiling of the traffic, and making decisions surrounding that should be intelligence-based, instead of being based on the configuration of the firewall itself."
"The hardware being more expensive compared to other vendors poses a challenge, along with a need for improvement in the cloud WAF offerings."
"Support is one thing I wish Imperva could improve."
"Because of all these services, you need to look at the company's services budget."
"The solution works for particular zones but isn't always the best solution for all zones."
"The documents for the initial setup are very limited, making us rely heavily on the vendor to install the setup, which can be costly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have an issue with Imperva Incapsula in the Iraqi market because of the high price."
"Imperva Web Application Firewall is expensive."
"It is a very expensive solution. The price is very high. A lot of customers tell us that they would love to use Imperva more. I have some customers who have 50 websites, but they have only 10 websites on Imperva because of the price. They would love to have all their websites running through Imperva, but they can't. They have to choose the more critical websites to protect because the price is very high. It is a very good product, but it is too expensive. If you buy a plan for 20 megabytes and you don't consume all of your 20 megabytes, it is okay, but if you consume more, you are charged for the superior traffic."
"It is a very affordable solution."
"The cost is somewhere around $10,000 a site. For every site, you pay individually. For every DNS entry, you have you pay."
"The pricing is somewhat expensive. It is actually a huge investment when compared to other countries."
"The data packages are higher than our needs so we end up paying for data that we don't use."
"Make sure you understand the way that Imperva charges. It's very affordable. However, I would like to see a package with the Virtual Patching included. You get to do patching separately."
