Event management strengthens with automation but needs better event flooding handling
Better handling of event flooding in IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact would be beneficial. If there are massive issues with power, for example, and we get millions of events, then it struggles to deal with that. Better root cause correlation and faster processing for IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact would be helpful. If there can be more end-to-end functionality, such as observability tools built in natively, that would be great. With correlation, IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact has many functions, but we've built them custom-built. Functions such as automated logging, automated dispatching, and automated notification of engineers could be native in the tool.

Automates Azure resource monitoring and inventory management but slow with real-time patch status
There is room for improvement in the performance of the product. The main problem is with patch management. The actual problem we're facing is with the patch management feature. It's not real-time, which creates inconsistencies. The machine might say there are no updates available, while the OpsRamp agent reports that everything's patched. It's a mismatch. We recently started a new marketplace for clients where we manage patch management. We try to share knowledge with OpsRamp, but they don't have a rapid process for product enhancements. Our main pain point is the lack of engagement from the product team. If someone from OpsRamp could discuss our concerns, work on future enhancements, or even give us an estimated timeline (ETA), it would be a huge improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is easy to integrate with other models such as Oracle, other systems, external systems, and to reach events."
"The stability has been very good for IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact, rated around eight or nine."
"The most valuable feature that comes with Netcool/Impact is the ISPF APA support. It is inherent to Netcool/Impact, so I can use the ISPF of any other product, which I can invoke and consume through Impact, and do integrations, which is great. I run the Netcool desktop application so I can integrate with other applications in the ticketing system. It's a great ability being able to invoke ISPF and integrate."
"This product allows us to make use of open-source products, including running Java code."
"The solution is great at being able to fetch almost any kind of file."
"The most valuable feature of this solution in my experience, is that the available reporting is quite accurate."
"The feature that we have found most useful are the dashboards, which can be built in minutes using this solution, allowing multiple products, thresholds, or any given required metric to be seen in a single area."
"It is a pretty stable solution."
"The most valuable feature of OpsRamp is the creation of the dashboards of the infrastructure for the CPU memory and SQL servers. Additionally, URL monitoring through Selenium scripting and the availability dashboard is useful."
"Most features work fine."
"The most valuable features of OpsRamp include a single pane of glass, event correlation, personalized dashboards, and a single platform solution."
"The feature we found most valuable in OpsRamp is alert generation because whenever there is any kind of spike on any virtual machine, the solution generates alerts based on the thresholds we implemented. We have integrated our ideas and tools with OpsRamp, so alerts are generated, then we notify the customers. That's the main feature we like about OpsRamp because we don't have to monitor each resource. Instead, OpsRamp does the monitoring for us, and it generates the alerts based on the thresholds."
"The technical support is fantastic, and they are fast to respond."

Cons

"Stability-wise, this product needs to be improved."
"The solution is somewhat complicated. It's not exactly straightforward."
"For improvement, I'd say the dashboard and the overall GUI could use some work. Although, I don't think that there's much improvement that Netcool really needs to achieve in this area, because when we're talking GUI, Impact is able to integrate with any third-party system and it comes with ISPF APA. It's more beneficial than Netcool/OMNIbus in this respect, and it's quite easy to handle."
"Better handling of event flooding in IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact would be beneficial. If there are massive issues with power, for example, and we get millions of events, then it struggles to deal with that."
"IBM is not investing in the development of the on-premise version of this solution."
"The function to search any particular device within this solution needs to be improved. Currently, the solution develops a lag when a search, or a comparison, is being carried out."
"OpsRamp cannot be scaled for big and large company deployments."
"What's lacking in OpsRamp is process automation, and if there is, I wish there could be more of it, other than just spikes, or it would be better if the alerts can be generated based on different matrices. That option is absent in OpsRamp at the moment, and it would be valuable if that could be provided in the solution, especially if there's any kind of security issue in the VM."
"OpsRamp could improve the critical alerts. We have been receiving some false alerts when monitoring. For example, the alert shows the site is down, but when we try to do manual access to the URL, it's accessible."
"Automation is currently quite complex and needs to be improved."
"OpsRamp had shortcomings associated with its network capabilities."
"We have 55 AVDs, and patches might roll out to 32-35 initially, with the rest taking a month or so. OpsRamp can't detect them all directly. Since clients want patches applied as soon as possible, we manually patch those remaining devices."
"We would like this solution to be developed into a full CMP tool, so that we are able to use a single product for all of our cloud management needs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing of IBM Tivoli NetCool Impact depends on the number of nodes on the element that you are monitoring."
"The licensing is yearly, and although I'm happy with the pricing I do think it could be better."
"OpsRamp is a cost-effective solution."
"There is an annual licensing fee to use OpsRamp."
"You pay it for a year and you'll have full access to the entire platform, not only for monitoring and alerting, you will have access to the entire platform, and whatever technology they develop will be made available to you."
"I don't have any idea about the licensing cost for OpsRamp, but I just know that its pricing is based on the resource count for each tenant."
