Restoration and infrastructure are extremely reliable
We are currently using Tivoli to backup 15 terabytes within our Oracle Database using a RMAN backup script. The RMAN's utility and restoration has been perfect, we have yet to experience any issues. It's very reliable The restoration and infrastructure are extremely reliable. We would like to…

Leveraging AI in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the road maps now that they have done a collaboration with Cohesity, which is a feature I'm looking forward to. Using AI is one improvement I recommend for the Veritas NetBackup Appliance. They have implemented some aspects of AI for features such as malware detection and anomaly detection. I believe they can do more to give customers more insight into their data, allowing them to see it and understand what they can do, such as archiving old data. They can do more by utilizing the data effectively to provide insights to customers about their space usage, future projections, and options for managing old data.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The restoration and infrastructure is extremely reliable."
"The policy-based backup feature is very helpful."
"The solution is useful for backups."
"The solution is very scalable."
"It has been our go-to product for backup."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is a total backup solution. We don't have to buy other applications to do it."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"The tool's most valuable feature is recovery."

Cons

"We would like to have the opportunity to omit data from being backed up. For example, we have three virtual machines, each with three disks. When running the backup, it will automatically take each disk rather than allowing us to select what data we want backed."
"Depending on the setup structure, it can be complex to implement."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance can improve by having a more direct connection to the cloud. It should have the technology to be able to directly communicate with the cloud."
"It's difficult to make a switch with the tool because the actual physical storage doesn't work with anything else."
"We had some problems with the backup of the physical server."
"The costing part is on the higher side. The reporting could also be improved."
"The challenge arose due to a space issue. The issue was related to disk breaks, especially when power cuts occurred. One of the disks would break, leading to a loss of functionality."
"One area needing improvement is to facilitate Oracle database restores using the GUI on the NetBackup Appliance."
"I would like to see support for databases such as MySQL and MongoDB."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's expensive, but it's worth for it due to the volume of critical information within our database. We are currently paying about $22,000 per year."
"The price of this solution is very high compared to other solutions."
"This solution is expensive."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"It costs more to license support for this solution, compared to others."
"The solution is not cheap"
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"There is a license needed to use Veritas NetBackup Appliance and there are not any additional fees."
"Appliances do not come cheaply."
