Has very good integration features and can quickly backup data and optimize storage
I would like to see continuous data protection (CDP). If there is machine failure, you don't have to go to the backup copy that you took 12 hours ago. You can actually go back to the backup copy made half an hour ago. That is, it would be good to have certain-point-in-time recovery. I would like them to add global deduplication. With deduplicate backups, deduplication will work only with the data of a certain machine or a certain backup set. Usually, the data is repeated across the data of the backup sets. However, if IBM Spectrum Protect Plus provides a global deduplication option it will ultimately result in better storage savings.

Reliable, fulfils compliance requirements, and enables to manage data backups easily
I use the solution for backup and recovery Our systems have become more stable and scalable after using NetApp AltaVault. The dashboard is useful for managing data backups. The deduplication technology helps me take offline backups efficiently. The workload on the end team has been reduced. It…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup of IBM Protect Plus is simple and not complex."
"Reliability, recovery features, and stability are valuable to me."
"Some of the features we find very valuable and use a lot, are retention sets."
"The solution is scalable."
"If the system were to go down, we needed to make sure that the system could be recovered and available as soon as possible. Spectrum Protect provides you access to directly bind the backup volume to the server and make the system available instead of restoring it and copying the system."
"What I like about IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is its integration, plus it has very good technical support."
"We used to use the solution with tapes a few years ago. We've switched to discs, and it has gotten much faster."
"The support from IBM is very good."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data. You're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."
"You can store backups for a while."
"Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored."
"Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us."
"It's so easy to work with."
"The flexibility. Being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody."
"It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."

Cons

"The administration needs to be improved and made simpler to use."
"Not particularly user friendly."
"The replication feature is not available."
"Their first level of support can be improved. Often they are too junior to understand the issues we are having, and it takes too much time to get from them to the next level of support, which is what we actually need."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve the IBM Spectrum Protect environment. It can be difficult to administer. The initial configuration can be difficult for entry-level teams or deployment teams, and it might be difficult to integrate. There's just too much content involved in the solution. The documentation is way too large."
"You end up needing to do a lot of troubleshooting to get things to work effectively."
"The user experience is very bad and the interface needs to be improved."
"The security must be improved."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"The initial setup phase of the tool was difficult."
"What could be helpful is different user base authentication so then maybe we could allow different customers to point to a single appliance and they only see the backups and things that they have."
"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"I would like to see more web support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the price of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus a one on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is very cheap."
"There is an annual license required to use IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. The cost of the license could improve, it is expensive."
"Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
"If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a little expensive."
"There are a few options available for purchasing the solutions. Overall, the price of the is high."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"The initial cost of the product is perpetual but the support fees are billed annually."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"The price is a bit high."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"It's quite cost-effective."
