Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable.""The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads.""We are happy with the support provided by Cohesity for the issues we've come across.""The SQL Backup and Restore is very easy.""The ability to essentially instantly recover a VM and have it run on the Cohesity Platform while all those bits are technically being recovered in the background is useful to us.""The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does.""Its most valuable feature is its ransomware protection, so it has immutable backups.""Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files."

More Cohesity DataProtect Pros →

"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data. You're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud.""It's so easy to work with."

Cons
"I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume.""I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it.""We would like it to have more capabilities for different kinds of PaaS or SaaS services in the Azure cloud, such as Azure SQL or Azure Cosmos DB.""We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones.""We aren't missing any features. In terms of the solution overall, it's so far so good.""Quality testing of upgrades should be somewhat improved.""The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs.""Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads."

"The solution needs faster indexing.""It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
  • "The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
  • "My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
  • "It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
  • "The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."

  • "You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
