Security features meets compliance needs and offers MPGW (Multi-Protocol Gateway) that simplifies integration efforts
While I like IBM products, I'm not an evangelist. I work with Java, Microsoft ASP.NET, and various technologies. I'm not tied to any specific vendor. However, I do find IBM to be a bit greedy. It's a large, profit-driven company. The support team is mostly based in India, and they follow a very structured process and protocol. Sometimes, it feels like playing ping pong with them – lots of back and forth before the problem gets escalated. You might even have to get your sales rep involved to push things along. For me, the support it could be better. Indian support teams aren't inherently bad, but with IBM, it feels impersonal. They respond, sure. But if it's a complex technical issue, they might ask you a lot of questions that just seem designed to waste your time. Sometimes it feels like they hope you'll get frustrated and solve the problem yourself.

Solution simplifies web service testing with impressive speed and accessibility
It is very easy for me to use and I highly prefer it compared to SoapUI and other products for performing its job. It is more handy and faster. It has impacted us very nicely. Postman is used for free by us. I'm not sure if there might be a paid version for multiple users. It is a very good product used for development. It is easy to install, as well as to learn, particularly for new users, even if they are not developers. I taught my business analyst to use it. I just showed them once, and it was easy for them to understand. For example, I gave them the URL and request format and asked them to test independently. They were able to use it on their own and do their testing as well. It was a good experience, especially for generally smart people, like those we usually hire in our company. It is pretty easy to explain, and learning it is not complex.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is stable."
"The MPGW (Multi-Protocol Gateway) is great because it allows you to easily expose services using various protocols – web services, REST (JSON), and others. This flexibility simplifies things."
"Its initial setup was straightforward."
"The solution is scalable, our customers are mostly South African banks and they handle mostly transactions with this solution."
"I like the tool's security. Also, all functionalities are integrated within on platform."
"Support for PCA and non-PCA services is valuable."
"What I like most is the stability."
"The solution is robust."
"One of the biggest advantages of Postman is its user-base approach."
"Postman is easy to use and enables us to test all possible API testing scenarios."
"The environment variables are a valuable feature because I can easily switch them and see all the developments in different cycles and stages."
"We are using the automation and performance testing tools."
"Postman is useful for API testing."
"The most valuable features of the solution are that it is easy to use and user-friendly."
"It is a scalable solution."
"I can use multiple environments, which allows me to create environment variables for each endpoint."

Cons

"For the workloads that are not too high, appliance is a little bit expensive."
"The initial setup isn't so easy, you need who has experience working with the solution to help."
"The product's cost for data appliances or hardware is quite high. It needs improvement."
"An area for improvement in IBM DataPower Gateway is its price point because it's a relatively expensive product. Sometimes, when the customer use case is just a very small subset of what's being offered in IBM DataPower Gateway, then the product can be expensive, making my company lose some of the opportunities because of the expensive pricing. A lower price point for IBM DataPower Gateway, even if that results in a less feature-rich version, would be appreciated. In terms of additional features that I'd like to see in the next release of IBM DataPower Gateway, nothing specific comes to mind because IBM constantly improves its standards and provides quarterly updates to the product, so it's quite fine."
"The DCDR process should be less complex."
"In the next release, I would like to see the product price reduced. It should be cheaper."
"I would like the tool to improve its training."
"One area that could be improved is the integration with Postgres and SQL databases. Currently, IBM DataPower Gateway only integrates with Oracle databases."
"The scalability of the solution can be improved."
"Multi-part requests should be handled in the octet-stream."
"The solution is quite complex partly because the UI needs simplification."
"We have previously used Tosca which allowed us to verify information using authentications. It would be useful if this was also possible using Postman. In a future release, Postman should connect to DB."
"Postman is a bit more of a complex tool, making it an area where improvements can be made."
"I would like to see more integrations with other platforms."
"The solution has some user interface difficulties when conducting environment collections."
"I would like to see improvements in the maintenance of the scripts and their collections. It is really painful that the user cannot drag and drop. It was also painful to create the standard suite of operations for the product. I am not sure if this is improved in the tool’s latest versions. The maintenance of the complex scenarios prompted us to use the solution only for unit testing. In the future, we may switch to the k6 framework."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of this product varies from customer to customer and the relationship with IBM, including how many offerings from IBM are already being used."
"The tool's initial costing is expensive for small banks and financial institutions."
"The appliance is a bit on the expensive side for the workloads that are not too high."
"This product is a bit expensive as IBM products are costly assets. However, for enterprise customers it is a worthwhile investment."
"The solution is expensive in comparison to other products."
"The cost is very high and requires all five components in the API management solution."
"It is an expensive solution."
"As far as I know, they have a perpetual license for this product. They are paying perpetual fees rather than an annual subscription or annual pricing."
"We do not pay any money for Postman."
"It is free."
"The solution is open-source and free."
"This is an open source solution."
"I use the tool's free version."
"The solution is free for individuals, but for companies that use it across the organization, you have to pay per user."
"Its price is moderate as compared to other competitors. The version that we are using is not open source, so it is not free."
"I am using the free option."
