Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate."

"The user interface is very, very good.""We make use of the new data center, specifically the containerized data center which is built and reviewed by Huawei, including all the device's infrastructure.""The mapping features and traffic logging are good.""The security is good. It's as effective as anything else on the market.""Huawei was able to assist us in the installation of their product. The installation was very fast.""The support for the solution has been excellent. If we ever had an issue they would send an engineer to help us with our problem.""I like that the initial setup is straighforward. It's also a scalable solution.""I had no difficulty using the Huawei NGFW."

More Huawei NGFW Pros →

"The solution has good customization abilities and plenty of features.""I like pfSense's security features.""pfSense helped us during COVID-19 because we used OpenVPN to connect from home.""The initial setup is straightforward.""The solution is fairly scalable when it comes to integrating with other applications and data sets.""We've found the stability to be very good overall.""The features I have found best are ease of use, GUI, and performance.""The most valuable features of pfSense are the reports, monitoring, filtration, and blocking incoming and outgoing traffic."

Cons
"It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure.""Report generation is an area that should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"With the Huawei firewall, none of the features comes at the top. We found out later that customer support is really not good. For this firewall, because of our customers' routine, for example, every six months they'll do a penetration test to find weaknesses. So whenever they came up with VAPT reports, they are looking to Huawei for help. I think that's basically because it's a different culture. Chinese culture and our culture is different. They have always tried to help find some excuses or say some other things that cannot help you solve the problem immediately.""The documentation needs to be improved. When they retire old models, they also retire the documentation. However, if you are still using an older model, you still need access to that documentation. And yet, they go ahead and removed it. It's gone. You are therefore stuck with a device with no documentation and technical support that isn't very helpful as they also remove support assistance as well.""The solution requires a more interactive dashboard. That would make it easier than playing with configurations the way we have to now.""The solution is scalable but it is difficult because you need to purchase new systems, it is not just one click.""The solution doesn't seem to be very mature. Our networking team says they are experiencing a lot of issues in the firewalls and some routers.""I would like to see an antivirus solution included with the product.""The solution could be more secure and have better integration.""Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi analysis would be useful features to include in the future."

More Huawei NGFW Cons →

"They can improve the dynamic of the input of IPs from outside.""The solution could always work at being more secure. It's a good idea to continue to work on security features and capabilities in order to ensure they can keep clients safe.""I tried pfSense, and it has a big issue with file system consistency, and this is what drove me to OPNsense. The file system stability is quite a big issue for us. We have a lot of outages related to power issues, and OPNsense is much more stable on this side.""Also, the GUI is helpful, but it's not user-friendly. It's complicated. It should be more intuitive for the average user and have an excellent graphical view. Of course, the user will typically know about network administration, but it still should be easy to understand.""The interface is not very shiny and attractive.""It would be great to add more to security.""The router monitoring needs improvement when compared with Sonicwall.""The product could offer more integrated plugins."
