Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

I like the automation and self-healing features
SDDC. Speed to market. Automation and self-healing. Oracle engine. Google and Azure API. Still implementing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"All of these awesome features make Simplivity a real game changer in the market."
"No SAN switches and having a native backup is pretty cool."
"The department that ran our reporting in the legacy environment, it took them about six hours to run their report. Now, it is taking the same department less than an hour."
"With HPE SimpliVity, hosting applications has become very easy and fast."
"Within our first year, one of our SQL servers got corrupted somehow and wouldn't boot, and we restored the VM from the previous backup, which was at that time about an hour old, and in under a minute we had that 950 GB VM up and running."
"The ability to restore quickly and get the business back up and running is priceless."
"Its performance is quite good, and it is also easy to use. One of the biggest benefits is the included backup solution."
"The feature that I like the most is the backup feature embedded inside the HPE SimpliVity. When we have any activity, within five minutes, we have a backup. It also has PDR for performing disaster recovery."
"Automation and self-healing."
"We efficiently move resources between major engineering projects."
"We hired a third company to stress test the system and it was above and beyond in terms of what we expected."

Cons

"Increased storage capacity for big data, something that we have not had."
"HPE could give us more options for server models to chose when using the product. Right now, we can only use the DL380."
"Upgrading can be complicated."
"The fact that it is compatible with vCenter (VMware) only; however, the company says Hyper-V and KVM are coming shortly."
"I don't think it's as simple as it is marketed, but it is a new product."
"The life-cycle management can be improved."
"Technical support is not so good. We have some issues with the memory and we still don't have answers for that problem."
"The greatest disadvantage is the update process. Every patch or release update must be checked and deployed with the HPE solution, which sometimes is a little bit difficult. It is not difficult in terms of installation, but it is difficult to get the patches in time."
"Oracle engine. Google and Azure API."
"Initial setup was complex at the beginning as the system was still lacking some important features, while every new release required a full reinstallation."
"We never had an issue with stability, but when we implemented the product, there were certain places where we weren't sure that they are completely aligned with our goals, in terms of how we use the system to get there."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cost is a factor. It is quite expensive."
"The solution is priced high. However, there are plenty of features as part of the package that other solutions do not have."
"We're paying $3,000-$4,000 a month."
"We did get some quotes from Nutanix, and they were ballparks. So, it is not cheap, and there is nothing free, but those two were comparable."
"It's about $10,000 monthly."
"For the VMware licensing, it is approximately $10,000 a year."
"We bought this solution as a package that included all of the hardware and all of the software."
"It is expensive for this market. Everyone says that it is a very good product, but the only complaint is about the price."
