Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

I like the automation and self-healing features
SDDC. Speed to market. Automation and self-healing. Oracle engine. Google and Azure API. Still implementing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The storage deduplication, as far as the storage space, is the most valuable feature, then the backups."
"Having my private cloud within my Simplivity infrastructure has given me so much more than I could have ever expected."
"In conclusion SimpliVity delivers an incredibly elegant solution that is built for the VM, not LUN, which delivers on the vision of VMware Virtual Volumes today."
"While the implementation is difficult, once you get past that, it's an excellent solution."
"The configuration capabilities are good."
"It has been performing well. It was more than what we expected."
"Backups happen very quickly."
"The initial setup was simple."
"We hired a third company to stress test the system and it was above and beyond in terms of what we expected."
"We efficiently move resources between major engineering projects."
"Automation and self-healing."

Cons

"Integration with external solutions outside the HPE posed challenges."
"The initial setup was complex because it was a new solution."
"Pricing is a little high in my opinion. Prices have climbed consistently since our purchase and install."
"While it has been a while since HPE acquired SimpliVity, there is a lack of understanding/awareness about the product. In short, it took me time to actually make them understand they had a product named SimpliVity, which as you can imagine does not instill a great deal of confidence."
"HPE support is still not aware/trained on SimpliVity, and this is beginning to show."
"Its price can be improved. Customers always look for better prices. It is more expensive as compared to other products available in the market."
"I have some worries about the support after the acquisition. The support was better before HPE acquired SimpliVity."
"It's a very complex installation. It's gotten easier, however, it's far from a double click on a link and a self-upgrade scenario. There's still an awful lot of magic that goes down to doing upgrades."
"Initial setup was complex at the beginning as the system was still lacking some important features, while every new release required a full reinstallation."
"Oracle engine. Google and Azure API."
"We never had an issue with stability, but when we implemented the product, there were certain places where we weren't sure that they are completely aligned with our goals, in terms of how we use the system to get there."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think it's a complete package. We buy the license with support for five years. It's a subscription, I will say, but it's included when you buy the SimpliVity solution from HPE. You have a contract with the software warranty and upgrades."
"HPE SimpliVity is much more affordable than Nutanix or VMware vSAN...The first pair of servers was about 90,000 EUR, including three years of warranty. It is 30,000 EUR per year."
"Upfront costs seems high at first look, but after analyzing all the benefits of SimpliVity, we have come out ahead."
"This solution, while costly as all these solutions are, was in fact less expensive than upgrading my old SAN."
"For three years, it is $60,000 for three nodes. It is quite pricey."
"It is not expensive. We bought its license for two years. For support, we pay yearly."
"Its licensing is yearly."
"Scaling isn't cheap"
