Uninterrupted upgrades accelerate performance with good support
I would rate the solution eight out of ten. It should be noted that in Pakistan, some parts are not readily available, and we need to import them from Singapore or other countries. We encountered an issue with a customer where the midplane failed and was not available. We had to wait for several days for a replacement, even in a 24/7 support case. Additionally, we faced motherboard failures in the customer's environment, encountering two motherboard failures simultaneously. We obtained one motherboard immediately, yet had to wait ten days for another. These issues should have been resolved promptly given the 24/7 support level.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution fetches quick responses in milliseconds which can be within 40-50 milliseconds."
"HPE 3PAR has all the common storage features like cell provisioning and deduplication, and usually the solution is chosen by the customer as they have a preference or the setup is already in their environment."
"It is easy to use and understand. It is also very stable."
"We built a DR solution based on this, we can sustain our business for any amount of time, 24/7."
"The All-flash positions us for growth because of its better performance, which means that our applications are faster."
"The most valuable feature for me is the solution's availability."
"It has a really powerful tool to measure data, how it is working, the performance, and if we have any bottlenecks."
"3PAR is easy to keep running and does not require too much effort. It has been very reliable, which is key."
"The product includes features like Zero Trust and seamless integration with LDAP and Active Directory, which allows us to manage user access efficiently."

Cons

"I would like to see a little bit more integration from a cloud perspective. In this way, I would have some more flexibility to do more with data, how to store it, and where I have it."
"I don’t know, I think as we scale I’d like to implement replication features. We haven’t been able to test those out yet ‘cause we only have one unit but no, all-in-all I’m pretty happy with the UI."
"Reliability is one area that needs improvement. I cannot afford to have a 4-node storage array suddenly having 2-nodes reboot for no reason."
"Integration with some cloud services would be nice... We would like to be able to provision from the 3PAR and decide whether or not we are going to provision onsite or the cloud."
"Setting up 3PAR is somewhat complicated, and it took about a week."
"The backup batteries, the WPS, could be better. When we had the outage we shut down the entire thing and tried the backup generators, and the electricity was out for 20 minutes and the HPE battery didn't last 10 minutes."
"It's not good and kind of stressful when you're at the first level."
"We do not use Memory-Driven Flash in the old 3PAR. Perhaps we will use it in the new 3PAR. That is part of the reason why we are upgrading."
"The entry-level product has limitations on the number of disks and enclosures."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We don't pay for any licensing fees."
"The cost is reasonable given that the licensing is all included once you purchase it."
"It is fairly inexpensive to scale."
"This licensing fees for this solution are merged with all of our HP annual costs, which in total are a couple hundred thousand dollars."
"We paid for five years of support when we purchased the product."
"The main issue with 3PAR right now is its cost problem. Right now, there are some other storage cabinets that can do what 3PAR can do. Now, they can do it as well with a more revised budget."
"The tool’s price is higher compared to other products."
"It's a good price."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
