Advanced analytics have strengthened our threat detection and improved incident response
The best feature Gurucul Security Analytics and Operations Platform offers is its analytics. When I heard about this feature, it was quite new to us for a SIEM as a feature. Gurucul Security Analytics and Operations Platform gave the first kind of impression from this platform, and I was impressed with this feature; it is doing a great job. Overall, this feature has covered most scenarios for now, including any kind of data exfiltration, lateral movement, or insider threat detection, so it covers almost all areas. I can say they are doing a great job regarding most of the security posture issues for any kind of organization. Gurucul Security Analytics and Operations Platform has positively impacted our organization and client by allowing us to notice compromised accounts most of the time. Some users, not from a technical background, often make mistakes that lead to their end devices being compromised, and they are usually unaware. We can detect these compromised accounts from our SIEM tool, which is a great opportunity for our company and client to improve their security posture. Of course, we have seen measurable results, such as a reduction in incidents and faster response times. If any incident happens, such as a user compromising their account while being unaware, we take that as an example and educate all staff of the client to avoid such activities, such as clicking a malicious URL or visiting a malicious site. Through that, we could improve their security posture and knowledge about security.

AI‑driven threat detection has transformed alert fatigue and now enables faster response and leaner soc operations
The best features of Vectra AI are related to AI. For the NDR part, Attack Signal Intelligence features were mainly responsible for behavior AI, high-fidelity signaling, and prioritization. These features were great for anomaly detection and behavioral-based detection, able to catch zero-day attacks and living-off-the-land attacks. For high-fidelity signaling, it automatically triaged, filtered, and correlated signals, which dramatically reduced alert fatigue noise on the customer side by approximately 80% and eliminated alert fatigue on the SOC teams. Regarding the identity detection and response IDR solution, it monitored Active Directory and Entra ID for any attacks, allowing the SOC to detect any compromised credentials. Alert noise was dramatically reduced by nearly 80%, allowing SOC analysts to focus more on true threats, which made them more productive and resulted in higher operational efficiency. Attack Signal Intelligence helped reduce irrelevant alerts by 80% to 90%, with metrics showing a 100-plus reduction in investigation workloads and roughly saving about 55,000 hours of investigation time. Investigation time has decreased significantly, empowering analysts with detection and advanced unknown threats that Vectra AI provided. Its knowledge base and database are very up to date, allowing for spotting zero-day attacks with full visibility and helping to stop attacks in minutes. Vectra AI has reduced the MTTD and MTTR, increasing operational and process efficiency, and has helped reduce the number of SOC analysts that needed to be hired. Thanks to the AI features, the number of employees and SOC analysts hired has been reduced.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Of course, we have seen measurable results, such as a reduction in incidents and faster response times."
"There are many detection features available."
"We can sleep better."
"It has to be up there with my favorite security tool set at the moment."
"It has increased our security efficiency and has also reduced the time it takes us to respond to attacks by about 50 percent."
"It's important for us that the user interface is easy to understand and that is the biggest benefit we see from Vectra AI."
"It has given us an increased level of confidence in our information security that we have a tool like Vectra to back up some of the incidents that could take place, knowing we are going to get them detected as quickly as possible and identified to us."
"One of the things that we didn't expect to happen was that our network team also jumped on it faster than we thought. In most cases, if it's a security tool that's working on the network part, they can also use it to find out certain flaws that have been in the system. Certain flaws, related to some legacy stuff, were already there for quite a few years, which they couldn't explain at first, but we could explain them based on the timing of certain things."
"After we deployed the solution it instantly began to add value to our security operations."

Cons

"I feel the dashboard of Gurucul Security Analytics and Operations Platform is not always user-friendly."
"It does a little bit of packet capture on alert so you can look at the packet capture activity going on, but it doesn't collect a whole lot of data. Sometimes it's only one or two frames, sometimes it does collect more. That's why they have the addition of their Recall platform, because that really does help expand the capability."
"The solution has not reduced the security analyst workload in our organization because we still need to SIEM. Unfortunately, while Vectra, for us, is a brilliant tool for network investigations, giving wonderful visibility, it doesn't go the whole way to replace our SIEM that is needed for compliance. So, I still have the same amount of alerting and logging that I did before. It gives us more defined ability to see incidents, but it doesn't give us enough information to satisfy a PCI or 27001 audit."
"We are using SMB 3.0, which is an encrypted protocol. When we get some alerts or something, we cannot go deep into the protocol to see what's wrong because it's encrypted. We need to decrypt the protocol in another way, which is quite difficult. We might go back to SMB 2.0 just for this reason, but that's not a good solution."
"One of the things I am not so happy about when it comes to Vectra is the scoring board."
"An area for improvement in Vectra AI is reporting because it currently needs some details. For example, when you download a report from Vectra AI, you won't see complete information about the alerts or triggers. Another area for improvement in the tool is that sometimes, an alert has high severity, yet it's marked as low severity. Vectra AI should have a mechanism to change the severity level from low to high or critical."
"You are always limited with visibility on the host due to the fact that it is a network based tool."
"It would be commercially beneficial if Vectra AI had something like Darktrace's Antigena Email or something similar to email protection."
"We would like to see more information with the syslogs. The syslogs that they send to our SIEM are a bit short compared to what you can see. It would be helpful if they send us more data that we can incorporate into our SIEM, then can correlate with other events."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The pricing and licensing are quite straightforward because they're based on the IP licenses. As a result, they are easy to count."
"There are additional features that can be purchased in addition to the standard licensing fee, such as Cognito Recall and Stream."
"We have a desire to increase our use. However, it all comes down to budget. It's a very expensive tool that is very difficult to prove business support for. We would like to have two separate networks. We have our corporate network and PCI network, which is segregated due to payment processing. We don't have it for deployed in the PCI network. It would be good to have it fully deployed there to provide us with additional monitoring and control, but the cost associated with their licensing model makes it prohibitively expensive to deploy."
"The pricing is very good. It's less expensive than many of the tools out there."
"Vectra AI is not a cheap solution."
"Vectra is a bit on the higher side in terms of price, but they have always been transparent. The reason that they are this good is that they invest, so they need to charge accordingly."
"Vectra's licensing model could scale to our research network, which has multiple, 100-gigabit links."
"Vectra AI's pricing is cheaper than that of Darktrace."
