Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The virtual firewall feature is the most valuable. We have around 1,500 firewalls. We did not buy individual hardware, and the virtual firewalls made sense because we don't have to keep on buying the hardware. FortiGate is easier to use as compared to Checkpoint devices. It is user friendly and has a good UI. You don't need much expertise to work on this firewall. You don't need to worry much about DCLA, commands, and things like that.""Fortinet FortiGate appears to be scalable.""It is easy to use and performs very well.""The solution is highly scalable because they have devices that can handle a large amount of traffic.""The solution is stable.""The most valuable features are that it is very simple to configure and to manage.""The most valuable feature is the ease of configuration.""I like several features that this product has, such as antivirus and internet navigation inspection. It is also simple to use."

"We have expanded the wireless access point and switches using Fortinet FortiOS.""For my organization, it has become much easier to scan the firewalls because the solution is more user-friendly than competitors.""Firewall and overall management are valuable features.""We found the initial setup to be straightforward.""The most valuable feature of this solution would be the caching feature.""The solution constantly adds features that are useful and user-friendly such as the ability to tweak firewalls through the CLI.""It's very easy to use.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiOS are its simplicity, highly user-centric, and performs well. The line speed and for heavy traffic, is helpful for us."

"The architecture of the OS in Juniper is very good. It's flexibility, scalability, and the technicality is also good.""The authentication part is seamless and easy for people.""The solution has good features.""The initial setup is pretty simple.""Juniper is more flexible with the commit check and the commit confirmed command. The design of the forwarding and contract plan in the operating system is very important for the performance when we have very big traffic.""It is easy for me to go in and update settings, make changes, or add/remove rules or security.""The initial setup was very straightforward. There was no problem. The initial deployment took about one hour.""The technical support has been good."

Cons
"I would like to see improvements with the antivirus and IPS as they are not working properly all the time.""They should make the rule sets more understandable for the end user. When you're trying to explain to somebody how a computer network is secured, sometimes it's difficult for an end user or customer to understand. If there was a way to make the terminology more accessible to the end user, the set up could be easier. They should translate the technical jargon to an easily relatable and understandable conversation for the end user, the customer, that would be brilliant. Particularly in an environment where the IT structure is audited regularly, there's always pressure from the auditor to up the standards and up the security and you get your USCERT's that come out and there's a warning about this and the customer will want to lock out so much and when you apply it they run into issue where they can't search the internet or print to their remote office. Of course they can't print to your remote office, they just locked it up. They should make the language more understandable for the customer. If there's a product out there that made the jargon understandable to John Q. Public, I would buy that.""The debugging and troubleshooting has room for improvement.""Some configuration elements cannot be easily altered once created.""The ease of use could be improved.""The pricing could be a bit better, especially when you consider how they have the most basic offering priced.""It could use more templates for third-party site-to-site VPN setups other than FortiGate and Cisco.""I would like some automated custom reporting."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"There is some room for improvement in the support.""Fortinet FortiOS need to manage its memory and CPU utilization better. It peaks at times, which sometimes can be challenging.""Right now, all the features meet my requirements.""While it is a solid solution, there are some product limitations which exclude it from deployment in some situations.""For monitoring purposes, we don't have any option to monitor the ISP link.""There are some issues with the performance. We also had some issues while updating the firmware.""They need to integrate more with the SD-WAN.""Their technical support needs improvement."

More Fortinet FortiOS Cons →

"They really need to improve the GUI.""he stability could be improved.""Some people complain that the solution tends to have a steep learning curve. It could be because most people have basic familiarity with Cisco or other similar products and maybe have never worked closely with Juniper products.""There are too many types of licenses, which can be confusing.""The GUI interface needs improvement.""The reporting can be improved.""In the next release, I would like to see improvements made to the GUI because it isn't very good.""I've talked to people that say Juniper now, as a device, can be a solution for a data center, but in the past, I have not seen this as being possible."
