Ensures seamless integration and centralized visibility for network security operations
The version upgrade from a single dashboard for all the firewalls in one click is the beauty of Fortinet FortiManager as the most impactful feature in managing our network security. Fortinet FortiManager's policy management enhances our security protocols by enabling us and giving integrated centralized visibility, which has proven to be very healthy. Because of this, we have identified some of the vulnerabilities in our systems, and we mitigated them through Fortinet FortiManager. The central dashboards and the visibility are what appealed to us to go with Fortinet FortiManager. Fortinet FortiManager has adapted to changes in our network scale and complexity as we have geographically 18 international locations, all equipped with firewalls and some cybersecurity initiatives and IT infrastructure initiatives.

Reliable network monitoring and proactive analytics enhance decision-making with areas for configuration improvement
NNMi is an OpenText product and serves as the OpenText Network Node Manager monitoring tool. OpenText Network Node Manager is used for network monitoring of switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and all network devices. It can support any SNMP protocol. The advantages of OpenText Network Node Manager stand out because it can build the topology, Layer 2 topology, and Layer 3 automatically once devices are added, connecting them together, such as device one, for interface one, connected with interface one on another device. The integration capability of OpenText Network Node Manager is excellent because it integrates directly, and I can configure the integration to feed the CMDB, from where I can get all information from network monitoring into the CMDB, linking it with the infrastructure and correlating events. I use advanced fault monitoring and management features in OpenText Network Node Manager for topology and fault monitoring, as it can alert or generate an event if the value exceeds or falls below a predefined threshold for SNMP traps. The predictive analytics impact planning and optimization strategies because the product can be linked with another product for analytic analysis, allowing me to see the interface utilization trend and proactively take action if the utilization increases. The automated network discovery features and topology mapping in OpenText Network Node Manager have a positive impact. It supports a bundle with another product for NetFlow to monitor traffic, ports, protocols, and SLAs, and I can build compliance reports to address security vulnerabilities, such as identifying all devices using outdated protocols.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"FortiManager enables us to set unified firewall policies from one centralized dashboard, reducing human error. If you do not have a central dashboard, there's a chance you might set a policy on one firewall and forget to do it for another."
"The centralized management of policies and certificates, coupled with the capability to handle multi-site deployments effectively, provides streamlined operations."
"We look at the traffic to segment the network and it improves and increases the performance. When we have a mobile connection and local laptops are on the same network. We have seen a big performance upgrade."
"Provides good and detailed log management."
"You can configure it at your ease."
"It is easy to set up the solution."
"The solution has the best stability for application control and inspections."
"It is easy to deploy to licenses."
"Real time network monitoring application: It is very stable, which provides quick root cause analysis (RCA) for any network faults."
"It provides very good scalability from 200 nodes to 30,000 nodes and from 2,500 interfaces to 60,000 interfaces."
"Topology creation is the most valuable feature."
"Most valuable function would have to the internal causal engine and its root cause analyzer which keep us updated on critical errors and incidents in our network environment."
"A complete solution for network monitoring."
"Because of the topological network mapping, our management can quickly take action when there's a network problem."
"Our monitoring and network teams of less than 100 people use this solution. The availability and fault monitoring are good."
"The most important benefit is to have one controller and to get all information to a single point."

Cons

"Issues arise when customers experience unstable electricity or poor grounding conditions."
"You cannot integrate with other solutions."
"For the IPSEC tunnels, Fortimanager doesn't have all of the features that are available on Fortigate."
"The compatibility with legacy products should be better. It would also be nice if the software could manage other devices from Fortinet and third parties."
"Areas for improvement in Fortinet FortiManager are scalability and stability."
"Configuring Fortinet without internet access is challenging."
"FortiManager needs to handle different firewall versions more efficiently."
"The information extraction through command lines was could improve to some extent. Although there were some command lines available, there were not enough options. For instance, I needed to obtain the management IP address of my two Fortigates, but the Fortinet FortiManager did not provide me with the IP address on the LAN interface. I attempted to find this information through the command line but was unsuccessful. I also searched for articles on the internet, but could not find a solution. This is an aspect that could be improved or potentially there is a method to access this information that I have yet to discover."
"The deployment architecture and installation part needs improvement."
"When I open a ticket, usually they respond very late. Some of the people I negotiate with seem undertrained."
"Micro Focus Network Node Manager is not powered to drill down for traffic visibility."
"The main issue with OpenText Network Node Manager is not its scalability but its network topology capability limitations, while installation and deployment types are supported across various platforms."
"As the technologies evolve, also these solutions or the monitoring tools should evolve to cover the progress in technology, including capabilities related to monitoring of virtualized devices today, as the DNS is on the table in this way."
"The technical documentation takes experience and much reading to master."
"We have not had a good experience with technical support from OpenText. Many cases take a month to be resolved."
"We had some issues with some of the features, some modules are not meeting expectations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license model they use depends on the size and is not limited to the users."
"The licensing costs depend on how many devices you want to use."
"Compared to Check Point or Cisco, Fortinet FortiManager is more affordable but it is still on the higher end."
"For the licensing fee, we paid around 10,000 to 15,000 euros."
"FortiManager isn't expensive, but its cost is dependent on which services are required."
"Fortinet is a high-end product and the cost is high. They should consider reducing the price, especially for existing customers."
"For us, it is a little bit expensive."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten."
"I wasn't involved in the pricing, but I think it's quite expensive."
"The solution is priced mid-range compared to the competition."

"The solution is quite expensive."
