Has improved performance for mission-critical workloads and enabled seamless non-disruptive upgrades
The availability is 99.99%, which is the main factor any customer would need because their data should be available whenever they want to access it. This is one main critical thing. It is very easy to upgrade since Pure Storage FlashArray handles it well. Everything is non-disruptive now; previously, there were forklift shifts, but now that is not the case. Pure Storage FlashArray says no to forklift upgrades. Usually hardware requires downtime, but Pure Storage FlashArray has improved their footprint so that they are not asking for downtime; everything is just a non-disruptive activity, which is why customers are more inclined towards Pure Storage FlashArray. Customers want more of the models in their environment due to the performance they are giving, and everything is in one Pure1 Array console where we can view all the models on one page or just an orchestration tool. You don't miss anything; you have replication, notifications about replication, and details about which host groups replication is happening in and if that replication is successful or failed. On a daily basis, our purpose is to create volumes for infrastructure; our daily activities include creating volumes and mapping them to the host, doing any migrations from a VM, clearing the data stores, and carving the volumes to those VMs. One key factor is the data compression with a ratio of 5:1, focusing on space efficiency, inline deduplication, and the compression Pure Storage FlashArray works on; that is a major factor we can suggest to any customer. Analytical capabilities are crucial. Daily, we check the throughput and consumption, and Pure Storage FlashArray provides predictions for one year regarding usage. This prediction helps plan updates well ahead. For support, we just raise a case, and they follow up and get it done. There is also AI readiness, but with the model R2, we don't have much of that AI readiness. For others, we do have AI readiness that predicts capacity based on daily or monthly trends, enabling us to analyze how much space we need or if we need to expand the disk shelf. From an operational point of view, a good feature is that if you accidentally delete a volume, it will be retained in the destroyed state for the next twenty-four hours, which is not the same with any other vendor. I have worked in this storage domain for the past fifteen years, and this option is remarkable, benefiting any L1 or L2 engineer. Additionally, from a compliance perspective, Pure Storage FlashArray has REST APIs enabled. I have not explored automation much, but from a security standpoint, it is strong with encryption data. If you want to automate, you can easily integrate with all clouds and explore Pure Cloud for scheduling workloads, including volume creation. Customers find benefit in Pure Storage FlashArray's single management pane of glass due to the dual controller and active-active setup. If one of the controllers goes down, all workloads automatically shift to the other controller, ensuring their data is safe and accessible at all times. This is a highlighted feature that any customer desires because their data should always be accessible. For SAN workloads, we use Pure Storage FlashArray because for SAN FC fiber channel, we don't use it; we use NetApp for NAS activities. We have clearly split this, so SAN is for mission-critical applications, while network-attached storage handles file systems. This architecture helps us maximize the benefit from Pure Storage FlashArray due to the significant workloads from this giant retail client. From a footprint and energy consumption perspective, you can see energy consumption from the Pure1 storage portal on a daily basis, and it is very compact. The three models we use consume only three units, which is quite low. From a footprint and data center perspective, it doesn't occupy much space. As everything moves to cloud, there are requirements to avoid excess spending on data centers, and Pure Storage FlashArray is efficient in energy consumption and is environmentally friendly.

Extends data management capabilities while offering robust options for further enhancement
Dell ECS provides features such as active-active and geo-replication, which offers a good approach for disaster recovery. As a Dell platinum partner, we appreciate that most Dell portfolio products are integrated together. For example, Dell ECS can be integrated with other file share systems or PowerScale without requiring third-party tools. The integration between Dell products is particularly noteworthy because Dell provides the full cycle of storage solutions, from NAS, SAN, hybrid, to object storage. All these solutions are fully integrated together. The pricing is competitive when compared to other vendors. While comparing with HP's offerings, Dell ECS as object storage is one of the best. Pure Storage might offer better pricing, but you won't find the same level of integration across products if you source the full cycle from one vendor. The complete integration of Dell solutions is one of the main features I appreciate, and I often advise my customers to consider this ecosystem. This integration helps with having a single point of contact and support.

It provides access to private and public clouds. I would like to be able to select the best private cloud.
I would like to be able to select the best private cloud to use in terms of service and cost. If I need to put an application on the cloud, I would like to know which provider to use. I would like to know the best option for this application.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability is perfect, the reliability is 100%, and the latency is always lower than 1 millisecond."
"It overperforms both in terms of storage capacity and throughput, and bandwidth capability."
"We were actually able to do multiple upgrades, including head upgrades and moving between the platforms, M20 and M50, over the years. We have never once lost a ping and have never had an outage due to an OS upgrade or a complete head upgrade."
"It's just very easy for general block storage."
"Pure Storage technology allowed us to automate tasks, reducing something which started as a 12-hour turnaround down to about 15 minutes."
"It has good stability for our company."
"Having fast storage allows actual servers to perform in high capacity so we don't have slowdowns on our applications."
"This solution has improved our organization in the way that we used to see latency but now with this solution we don't. It also has good performance. Latencies have come down for our performance in the SQL databases. We can put a lot more in a lot less in terms of space savings. We also save data center space have good deduplication."
"It is a stable platform."
"What I like best about this product is that it is a complete solution, both hardware, and software, by the same vendor."
"This solution is very easy to use, and is very reliable."
"I have found Dell ECS to be scalable."
"Competitive object storage platform that's stable and scalable."
"Some of the best features with Dell ECS are that it's scale-out storage with compatibility, which are the main drivers, along with very good support from Dell EMC that usually makes customers happy."
"It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable feature for me is off-site storage."
"HPE Helion provides access to world-class personnel and skill sets, and their ability to perform repeatedly at a high standard provides a positive experience."
"It's improved the delivery of services to our clients, and I believe my clients get new business and better performance."
"Helion Being backed by a vendor (HPE) rather than vanilla openstack gives us a little more confidence that the product is now at a level of maturity where we are happy to start consuming open technologies."
"We have many more services, including self-service, and we don't have to call IT and wait for weeks or months for service, which is the biggest benefit for our business."
"The most valuable feature is our access to private and public clouds."

Cons

"The primary drawback is the cost, which can be prohibitive for small configurations."
"The negative aspect of Everpure FlashArray is that migrations can be somewhat complicated."
"A noticeable area for improvement is the support for object storage. The FlashArray does not natively support object storage like S3 or Swift, which pushes customers needing these features towards the more expensive FlashBlade."
"In the configuration, which we brought in or tested it in, it has a very limited config as far as the array goes. That said, it still did more than our anticipation."
"Everything has been good, but we faced one issue last year while migrating volumes from one Pure Storage to another. The snapshots were not visible in the Veeam backup portal."
"The price of Pure Storage FlashArray could be better."
"Pure Storage's logs could provide more visibility to the end-user. The logging algorithms are different from those of other vendors. For example, Cisco's logs provide extensive troubleshooting data, whereas Pure Storage logs offer limited information. We have to contact support to get more information."
"One improvement area is the eradication time delay."
"The solution could be more cost-effective and secure."
"There is room for improvement in the DPI reports, as they could be made more user-friendly."
"From an improvement perspective, Dell ECS should aim to offer a better pricing plan to its users."
"We have concerns about the write performance. We would also like it to be easier to scale out, to add more boxes to the system. And we want improved performance, to use a next-generation NFS service."
"Dell ECS could improve the price of the solution. It is expensive."
"While there can be occasional issues with routing to the wrong region that lead to slight delays, it's typically business as usual."
"My opinion is that scalability can be done smarter."
"However, hardware failures can impact the cluster, making it read-only."
"We need improvements for more hybrid use. Right now, the system is very focused on pay-as-you-go cloud services, and our customers are looking for more a hybrid use."
"With a lot of the services we use, we need a single dashboard that could do more."
"Some improvements I think are needed are greater stability and more up to date packages."
"I would like to be able to select the best private cloud to use in terms of service and cost."
"If they could reduce the cost, that would be good as there is much competition, and many companies and organizations are looking to reduce costs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"While it comes with a higher price tag, this investment often translates to significant improvements in performance."
"My organization has a yearly license, but I believe that Pure Storage FlashArray has capacity-based licenses as well. I'm definitely happy with the pricing."
"Pure Storage FlashArray is expensive."
"Our costs are around $100,000."
"The pricing of Pure Storage FlashArray is reasonable."
"The licensing is $100,000."
"Pure Storage is all-flash, so this sometimes tends to make it a bit more expensive in the beginning."
"The price, in general, is around $100,000, however, I know it costs more."
"The price of Dell ECS should be reduced."
"It is an inexpensive product."
"The product is quite expensive."
"We initially purchased all of the licenses at the same time."
"The charges for this solution are made in blocks of models, which are purchased depending on what features an organization requires."
"The price of Dell ECS should be reduced."
"If I remember correctly, Dell ECS is an appliance, so if you buy Dell ECS, you also have to buy the hardware, while IBM is standalone software, so you can buy IBM as software only without needing to buy the hardware. On a scale of one to five, I'm rating the pricing for Dell ECS a four."
"Dell EMC ECS is too expensive."
