Capability to integrate diverse coding languages in a single notebook greatly enhances workflow
Databricks offers various courses that I can use, whether it's PySpark, Scala, or R. I can leverage all these courses in a single notebook, which is beneficial for clients as they can access various tools in one place whenever needed. This is quite significant. I usually work with PySpark based on client requirements. After coding, I feed the Databricks notebooks into the ADF pipeline for updates. Databricks' capability to process data in parallel enhances data processing speed. Furthermore, I can connect our Databricks notebook directly with Power BI and other visualization tools like Qlik. Once we develop code, it allows us to transform raw data into visualizations for clients using analysis diagrams, which is very helpful.
GY
Offers ease of use, affordability, cloud options, and many open sources,
Our model has used various tools together. It should make sense for them to use these tools in conjunction with RStudio Connect. Currently, they use none or only PSN and a couple of other devices. There should be integration with these tools or the ability to integrate various statistical tools, both open source and proprietary, with RStudio Connect. RStudio Connect should ideally provide an add-on library where modules can be utilized. There's no need to introduce something entirely disconnected but beneficial for statistical modeling. If some popular tools they use, such as Norman or PSF, were bundled and made available as add-ons, it would create a centralized place. This centralized platform would allow individual vendors to ensure compatibility of their products with RStudio Connect and provide them on the marketplace. Customers could then choose these validated additional tools, integrating them seamlessly with RStudio Connect.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can scale the product."
"The time travel feature is the solution's most valuable aspect."
"Databricks is hosted on the cloud. It is very easy to collaborate with other team members who are working on it. It is production-ready code, and scheduling the jobs is easy."
"The most valuable features of the solution are the hardware and the resources it quickly provides without much hassle."
"It's very simple to use Databricks Apache Spark."
"There are good features for turning off clusters."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is its notebook. It's quite convenient to use, both terms of the research and the development and also the final deployment, I can just declare the spark jobs by the load tables. It's quite convenient."
"The solution is easy to use and has a quick start-up time due to being on the cloud."
"RStudio Connect is very powerful statistically and can handle large datasets, even on a free version on a laptop."

Cons

"Databricks has a lack of debuggers, and it would be good to see more components."
"Databricks' technical support takes a while to respond and could be improved."
"I'm not the guy that I'm working with Databricks on a daily basis. I'm on the management team. However, my team tells me there are limitations with streaming events. The connectors work with a small set of platforms. For example, we can work with Kafka, but if we want to move to an event-driven solution from AWS, we cannot do it. We cannot connect to all the streaming analytics platforms, so we are limited in choosing the best one."
"Databricks has added some alerts and query functionality into their SQL persona, but the whole SQL persona, which is like a role, needs a lot of development. The alerts are not very flexible, and the query interface itself is not as polished as the notebook interface that is used through the data science and machine learning persona. It is clunky at present."
"The product should provide more advanced features in future releases."
"Databricks would benefit from enhanced metrics and tighter integration with Azure's diagnostics."
"Some of the error messages that we receive are too vague, saying things like "unknown exception", and these should be improved to make it easier for developers to debug problems."
"The product needs samples and templates to help invite users to see results and understand what the product can do."
"I rate my experience with RStudio Connect as average because I am not yet comfortable enough to provide a definitive assessment."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is okay. It's competitive."
"The solution requires a subscription."
"I rate the price of Databricks as eight out of ten."
"Databricks uses a price-per-use model, where you can use as much compute as you need."
"The licensing costs of Databricks depend on how many licenses we need, depending on which Databricks provides a lot of discounts."
"The solution is based on a licensing model."
"The licensing costs of Databricks is a tiered licensing regime, so it is flexible."
"The solution is a good value for batch processing and huge workloads."
