Manages multiple releases seamlessly
We have done some work with companies, probably four or five years ago and found the ability to manage multiple releases simultaneously as a main advantage, especially in complex programs with multiple concurrent releases. Running automated tests against back-level versions in certain environments is possible, and newer versions can be tested as well. It creates constant visibility into the test process, showing the status, bugs, and automated test results. It is a solid product in large corporations in Denmark, ensuring everyone knows where the process stands. There is a good understanding of what is critical, allowing prioritization of test cases.

"It is designed to supplement the entire lifecycle and will definitely improve your productivity and traceability."
"The primary HP QC modules, requirements, test plan, test lab, and defect management have become, over time, foundation stones in our project teams development methodology."
"What I love about it is that it can be used for the entire lifecycle (from requirements to release) and the dashboard is great for reporting."
"The most valuable thing is the flexibility of the customized options, which makes it more powerful than any other tool because we can customize based on the project and on how we want to control the testing."

Cons

"The reporting and metrics can be improved. E.g.: If we wanted to have metrics across all projects."
"Yes, it is not stable when you create a data table that includes more than 30 elements, so it can lose your data."
"Another kind of deployment might be useful, perhaps an option to install the tool in a local deployment."
"A key area for improvement is to revamp outdated components such as HipTest publisher."
"Support with In-App chat is great. However, it would be awesome to have real time support also for PT timezone."

"I'd like to see them move away from a desktop-type client and towards a web-based client, although we've also had ActiveX issues with web clients."
"Browser support needs improvement. Currently, it can only run on IE, Internet Explorer; it doesn't work on Firefox, doesn't work on Chrome, doesn't work on a Mac."
"If they could improve their BPT business components that would be good"
"Technical support depends; frequently, it's not very responsive in resolving our problem, but engineers handle it too late."
"Its pricing does need to improve."
"It should have the option to integrate open-source and third-party tools. I'd also like more collaboration options."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a perpetual license."
"It is an expensive tool. I think one needs to pay 10,000 USD towards the perpetual licensing model."
"I don't know the exact numbers, but I know it is pricey. When we talked to the sales reps we work with from our company, they say, "Well, Micro Focus will never lose on price." So, they are willing to do a lot of negotiating if it is required."
"I've never been in the procurement process for it. I don't think it is cheap. Some of the features can be quite expensive."
"The licensing fee is a little expensive."
"Compared to the market, the price is high."
"The full ALM license lets you use the requirements tab, along with test automation and the Performance Center. You can also just buy the Quality Center edition (Manual testing only), or the Performance Center version (Performance Testing only)."
