Has helped reduce daily log volume significantly and streamline data routing across multiple destinations
Regarding complexity, as I mentioned before, Cribl is very simple to use. When I started 2.5 years ago, it was very easy to learn. I learned Cribl within a week, and even though I was a fresher at the time, it was easy to understand and not complex enough that someone would need to spend money on labs. It's not that complex to learn. Regarding cost efficiency, it's very good because nowadays the SIEM tools we use are too expensive on license, and SIEM tools base their license on how many logs get ingested. The unwanted logs, particularly firewall logs, represent a significant portion of unnecessary ingestion. Cribl saves our license by filtering out half of the firewall logs that are unwanted. Our main purpose for using Cribl is to save our license and save money. Currently, everyone is moving toward AI agents. We currently use regex, and AI agents could help us create those regex patterns to drop events or add raw data to events. Currently, we sit down, review the logs, and create regex patterns manually, which can be time-consuming. An AI agent could reduce this time. I read some articles indicating that Cribl Cloud has started using AI and considering MCPs and model context, but I'm not certain how far along they are. If Cribl asked me what they could improve, that would be my suggestion. The support is very good, and I had a few issues with Cribl where I raised support cases and received good responses, which is better than the quick response I didn't get from other SIEM tools and vendor tools I use. Compared to other SIEM tools, Cribl is cheaper than Splunk and DataDogs. However, it's still a bit expensive from my point of view, though I won't call it expensive. Overall, I think 99% of companies use Cribl before their SIEM tools, and compared to SIEM tools, Cribl is cheaper. Companies can use any SIEM tool such as Google, Splunk, or Cisco, and Cribl is cheaper than those SIEM tools. They might have a slight chance to reduce costs further, but I'm not the correct person to evaluate that since I'm more focused on the operational side. Regarding training, it was quite easy to grasp. It took me almost a week to understand the basic functionalities and what Cribl does. Getting more expertise took additional time, but basic functionalities and understanding what Cribl does took around four to five days. One point I want to mention is that Cribl could improve their labs or training materials in their Cribl Cloud or whatever portal they have.

Customization and automation streamline workflows for seamless operations
The features of Rapid7 InsightOps that I have found most valuable are the predefined policies and the use of correlation rules, which are very valuable because they eliminate the need to spend time creating those rules. This feature detects insider threats or compromised credentials by using user behavior analytics, which can collect other compromise indicators. It makes it easier to install and implement this solution because you can run it as normal behavior of users and then switch off to look for the anomalous behavior of any entities, such as laptops and others. In any violation or restricted behavior, the system will notify you that something unusual is occurring. The machine learning algorithms in Rapid7 InsightIDR for threat detection work quite effectively as part of the user entity behavior analytic model, allowing us to focus group normal typical behavior of users and then turn on the rule to spot any unexpected behavior. The automation features of Rapid7 InsightOps are quite satisfactory, as users appreciate these features, especially when integrating with the ticketing system. If something goes wrong, InsightOps will notify the ticketing system to create a ticket and assign it to the responsible person to handle the events found in the infrastructure. The customizable dashboards in Rapid7 InsightOps are quite valuable and interesting because SOC center operators spend most of their time investigating on those dashboards, making them easy to manage. Additionally, we can configure email reports for high-level talks, sending historical data without needing to look online, which is very convenient.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cribl has been instrumental in containing our data costs, especially as we use leading log aggregation and SIEM tools known for their heavy licensing costs by ingest."
"Mostly because of the positive reasons, I would say it is easy to use, it is sustainable, the support is nice, the coding is quite easy to understand, there are a lot of functionalities there, you can do a lot of things, and the data migration is very easy."
"The deployment was smooth across all seven projects I have, everything was in place with documents and step-by-step guidance readily available, and Cribl support is very good because whenever we got stuck, we just needed to open a ticket and the support team was very responsive and helped us get the deployment done quickly."
"The platform's most valuable feature is the ability to transform data in real-time within the pipeline without sending it to a destination."
"I'd rate the solution ten out of ten."
"The feature I appreciate most about Cribl is the interface and how you're able to interact with the data, see the data both live on the ingest side as well as on the side where it goes out to the destination, which is a feature that was lacking in the previous solution I was using."
"Cribl feels a lot easier to use and more intuitive, gives you more capability, and you don't have to work as hard to set things up."
"What I appreciate the most about Cribl is the free training, the free access to all the training, and how easy it is to learn it."
"We can save logs as plain text."
"The most valuable feature of Rapid7 InsightOps is the search functionality."
"Integration of InsightOps with other tools, especially SIEM solutions, has generally improved operational efficiency."
"Easy to use and spend less time on setups/troubleshooting."
"It has the ability to alert and track logs from different sources."
"We get way more out of it than we did with SecureWorks and we pay about a third of the price."
"The ability to browse logs from multiple sources at the same time really speeds up root cause analysis."
"The machine learning algorithms in Rapid7 InsightIDR for threat detection work quite effectively as part of the user entity behavior analytic model, allowing us to focus group normal typical behavior of users and then turn on the rule to spot any unexpected behavior."

Cons

"I think Cribl should enhance its visualization side, similar to Splunk or Grafana, where things can be visualized more accurately or presentably."
"Some of the integrations such as SNMP need improvement, and I feel Cribl should improve on SNMP integration and also on the database monitoring space."
"From my perspective of the stability and reliability of the solution, there have been times where certain releases have bugs inside of them that we have to work around in order to make the solution work as intended."
"Some downsides of Cribl include that it was quite a long sales cycle for us, but that was probably partly my fault as well."
"I would like to see better debugging visibility added to Cribl, as if I am stuck on something, it should provide better debugging visibility in the coming years."
"If you're a customer who has no idea how to use Cribl and just buy it hoping to solve your problems, it doesn't work that way."
"Cribl should consider adding more features that are applicable to smaller firms, allowing broader access to their data migration through Cribl."
"The only area that Cribl should focus on is cost-effectiveness."
"The searching capability, or when you ask real time questions, is pretty decent but it's still not up to par with, say, Splunk."
"The solution takes a little bit of time when we load the website for the first time."
"Since I used the beta, improvements are to be expected. The dashboard options could have been clearer, but I believe it is more a problem with the limited documentation available at the time."
"Rapid7 InsightOps could improve by making the search query better. There are times when the search query is broken and it does not find anything."
"There are a few things I would like to do with a few more complex queries which I am not able to do right now, because it is a SaaS solution."
"Improvement is needed in the dashboard of InsightOps, especially for less technical users."
"There were some difficulties in product setup, but after those issues were resolved, there were no issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would not say it is a cheaply priced tool as it has been doing wonders in the market. The tool has been budget-friendly for organizations."
"The product pricing is reasonable compared to other solutions."
"The product is cheap."
