Reliable switching has delivered long‑term uptime, strong PoE support, and predictable performance
Cisco Systems Catalyst Switches are highly regarded for their performance, reliability, and enterprise-grade capabilities. My main reservation, however, is the pricing. The cost of Cisco Catalyst Switches—and Cisco products in general—is relatively high, especially in many African markets where organizations often need to balance budget constraints with required functionality. There are alternative vendors that offer comparable features at a lower price point. While they may not always match Cisco’s ecosystem, stability, or full feature depth, many businesses still choose them because of the significant cost savings. Another consideration is licensing, which can add to the overall total cost of ownership depending on the deployment model and required features. Overall, Cisco Catalyst Switches remain premium enterprise solutions, but when compared with other OEMs, their higher acquisition and licensing costs can be a major deciding factor for cost-conscious organizations.

Pros

"We are satisfied with the solution; it demonstrates good performance."
"As there are many who are knowledgeable of this technology, this translates into extensive support for it."
"The solution is highly scalable, and we have approximately 650 users using this solution in my organization."
"The operating system is great."
"The stability has never been an issue."
"The solution is very stable."
"It has become easier for us to troubleshoot and find issues faster in the management software for the switches, and it saves us troubleshooting time because if the network is down it has a big impact on production."
"Catalyst switches are highly reliable; they have a good product life, and they are balanced overall compared to others."
"We can configure the switch stack on the internet. Other vendors do not offer this facility. It is fast and easy to manage."
"Network performance is very good, suggesting that stability has not been an issue."
"H3C Ethernet Switches are priced at around $500 per unit, which is very cheap and one of the most competitive prices out there."
"The best feature of H3C Ethernet Switches is their reliability."
"To date, it has proven to be highly reliable. We have encountered no issues or challenges with it thus far."
"Offering a five-year warranty, compared to competitors' one-year warranties, is a unique advantage of H3C switches."

Cons

"The customer service and support need a bit more improvement and a faster response. So, there is an area of improvement."
"The only improvement I would like to see with Cisco Catalyst Switches is the pricing."
"The newer models are not so stable. Other products like 6800, 3750, were stable but starting from 3850 it got worse. We have a lot of issues and a lot of bugs. It's a new product so it's understandable but it should be improved."
"For zero-touch deployment, we have to work around a little bit initially because the switches are not exactly zero-touch provision ZTP. Currently, I don't see much AI integration with Cisco Catalyst Switches; though they've started, it still needs improvement."
"The problem is that they charge you for what they have supplied that you wanted as well as what they make it mandatory to buy."
"The delivery dates need to be more expedient. Right now, when we need to buy a new Cisco Switch, we may have to wait a few months."
"The solution offers a bit of complexity and you need a specialized workforce."
"Reducing the price would be an improvement."
"GUI needs to merge with CLI."
"There is room for improvement in Wi-Fi solutions, which are not optimized."
"H3C Ethernet Switches could improve by widening their product range to include products like 16 port LT switches and industrial switches."
"I'd like to see better cloud management."
"To enhance H3C switches for the next release, improving the user interface is crucial."
"Lacks decent cloud management."
"There should be more public tools for configuration and comparing products."
"The solution’s stability could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cisco Catalyst Switches is a very expensive solution."
"Cisco products are not that cheap."
"The price of Cisco equipment is very expensive and you have to pay extra for support."
"Pricing could be cheaper as well."
"It's overpriced and should be cheaper."
"These switches are expensive."
"It would be great for the user if Cisco lowered the prices for their routers and switches."
"We pay the licensing fees annually because we have an enterprise license agreement."
"H3C Ethernet Switches are reasonably priced."
"H3C Ethernet Switches is targeted for SMBs because it's cheaper compared to Huawei switches."
"H3C Ethernet Switches are priced at around $500 per unit, which is very cheap and one of the most competitive prices out there."
