Broad perspective on strategic management exists but integration challenges hinder efficiency
The product execution part, such as planning and executing, is done through Atlassian tools, specifically Jira. We wanted to upgrade our ability to understand how all these products and teams are working against strategic goals, tracking expenses and time, but the integration between Broadcom Clarity and Atlassian Jira is very cumbersome and not straightforward. Their integration, even with ConnectALL, is just adequate, but it's never going to be great because they are actively trying to sell Rally. To make Broadcom Clarity a perfect product, I think with Jira, nothing can be done. To be fair, I don't know exactly how Rally integration works as I've only read about it, but I know that in marketing papers, it seems amazing with full-on integration, whereas with Jira, it just doesn't work that effectively.

Centralized planning has improved resource visibility and supports data‑driven financial decisions
The best features Planview Portfolios offers are visibility enhancement, robust system performance, and comprehensive resource management. This enhanced visibility in Planview Portfolios ensures that all users can easily track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make informed decisions to optimize workflow efficiency. When discussing robust system performance, the system's robust performance in meeting our various work requirements effectively and efficiently stands out. It is very stable and reliable, contributing to a seamless user experience, which enables users to focus on their tasks without disruptions. I also love the financial breakdown, planning and prioritization, and attribute collection on projects in Planview Portfolios. Planview Portfolios has positively impacted my organization since I started using it. It has enabled me to gain insights into the full scope of work consuming resources. I am able to know where the resources are being consumed more, especially which resources are consuming the most. I have been able to leverage resources management and resource time reporting, which enabled the generation of $90 million in annual revenue through labor billing to customers.

A project management solution that can be automated to suit your needs
I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten because it's easy. We had to really understand the solution because it's huge, and we had to know which sections to bite off first. I might even rate the initial setup a nine out of ten if you know what you've got. Once we had all our data and our migration plan, it was quite easy. The challenge lies more with the organization than the system itself. Sciforma is one of the easiest tools to get going with from a technical point of view, but knowledge is key. Deploying the solution takes from six months to a year, depending on the level of data wanted. While deploying the solution, we have to first compile the user's requirements. Then we have to drop a baseline specification in parallel with a concept rollout. Based on what's in the concept, we pick from what the client understands to be the relevant portions, the minimum requirements. Then I convert it into a project execution plan and then execute the plan. After that, we have initial data collection for configuration and then final live data. Then we have the sign-off processes of different departments. There's a lot of upfront work to get the data prepared for transmission, and that is a big challenge. We did almost a thousand projects per year, so there were quite a lot of decisions to speed up the deployment process. The biggest challenge was to get our internal data organized and map it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CA PPM gave them the ability to automate approval processes, manage the project life-cycle in a central tool, fill time-sheets against the projects and provide reports to executives, helping them reduce their effort in terms of cost and time involved."
"They should look at the tool itself because it's a powerful tool, it can do a lot of things, cover a lot of ground quickly, and it can easily be picked up as far as skill sets go."
"You should really look at the tool itself because it's a really powerful tool, it can do a lot of things, cover a lot of ground quickly and it can easily be picked up, as far as skill sets go."
"(CA PPM) Clarity is a very robust tool and you can really do a lot with it."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the quality of the database; the online database is transactional and we are able to get real-time data."
"We really like being able to use the SaaS solution so that CA is managing everything except the actual data capture and generating reports."
"It's pretty much the source of "the truth." Everything is together, everyone can see all the resources, financial projects, how long a project's going to take, and anybody can go in there and see any information they need about the organization as a whole."
"It's an integrated product, so we can do project management, strategic management, and resource management all in the same place, helping us make decisions faster and removing the need to maintain the systems ourselves."
"It gives us the vast ability to churn out-of-the-box reports and have an overview about approach rates and resource utilization."
"Enterprise One has been exactly what we need."
"We can easily see which functions are overcapacity. Before, we did not have visibility into that."
"It provides end-to-end work management for the full spectrum of the types of work."
"The most valuable feature for me is the ease and customizability of reporting."
"We are able to see where everyone in the team is in terms of hours, where there is capacity, and where we can actually add them, e.g., other projects that they're not currently staffed to."
"The sheer amount of information available in one single interface is valuable. Everything is there. It is also a lot of work to maintain all the information, but generally, you can find everything you need within this one tool."
"Planview is the source of truth, enabling us to efficiently look at the budget, scope, and schedule in one consolidated place and quickly identify any variance."
"ONE2TEAM revolutionizes the way of working: The cloud based solution for project and portfolio management with very strong collaboration functionality lets executives and team members access their work environment anytime, anywhere to monitor program status, act, and complete a personalized checklist of tasks without the need to send emails or create presentations, simply working together in a dashboard."
"I find Sciforma's customizability valuable."
"It makes it more fun to work with a modern designed and easy-to-use solution as a team and not add or analyze data alone. Internal, external, home office, remote work, desktop, mobile (available on iOS and Android), are always connected to One2Team."
"The integrated portfolio and project management approach is the most valuable feature of Sciforma."

Cons

"The user interface seems a bit outdated in some modules, while the most frequent modules have already been updated to a modern look and feel."
"I think it needs better reporting. The reports should be more user-friendly as they're currently hard to understand."
"They've really failed to innovate on the user-interface perspective."
"Many of our clients were not using some of these features, because of complexity and less customization facility, and I would like to see OOTB portlets on this product."
"Although I wasn't involved in the initial setup, I understand that it was not straightforward, very complex."
"It would be nice to have more configuration options at the partition level."
"Sometimes we want to do something but we are stuck because Clarity doesn't allow you to do it."
"So the only thing that’s missing is that the dashboards do not go into enough detail."
"Its support to legacy paying customers is something PlanView is not handling well. We were unable to implement due to lack of professional support by PlanView. "
"I think the capabilities are there, but it seems difficult for me to even create a report as I am not a Planview technical expert. It is not particularly intuitive. It slows us down in reporting the big picture to management."
"Planview Portfolios can be improved by making the platform more dynamic and user-friendly, especially for non-technical users."
"Sometimes within the application, when you pull a report, it takes awhile performance-wise for the reports to pull up."
"The administrative tabs are very confusing, especially in terms of configuring screens and users."
"There can be improvement on the sense of urgency because a lot of times we've exhausted everything that we can, and now, we're reaching out. So, it isn't a, "Well, have you tried to reboot this?" We've already done everything. Once we put in a ticket, there should be more of a sense of urgency on it."
"The technical support seems strong. I know they've started doing some more off-shore support, and that space still needs some growth."
"The outcome management and work resource management in terms of teams needs improvement. Team handling, how team requirements are generated, and how the resource managers can work with teams needs to be improved."
"The report developer needs a bit of streamlining."
"For the future AI (Artificial intelligence) must be part of a modern solution. AI is with its unique ability to monitor patterns, is a capable assistant for project managers. Artificial intelligence is being used to help with project organization on a collection of different data from multi-data sources."
"The solution's graphical user interface (GUI) is a bit old and could be improved."
"For the future AI (Artificial intelligence) must be part of a modern solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For all the functionalities of the solution, the price is in the market range, since it is a product which offers governance issues and supports the digital transformation, which is where we will go in the next year."
"Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
"The licensing costs are a little bit high, and unfortunately, it has been a while since I've had that paperwork in front of me. I don't remember how much it was, but it seemed like it was fairly high. It is probably comparable to some of the other solutions because I do know that, for example, on a lot of the AWS stuff, they found that the costs wound up being higher than having some on-prem solution. Comparatively, Clarity is within the price range of other solutions."
"In recent times, I have been involved in the purchase of the license for this solution. However, the process of procurement changed and the option to buy individual licenses was no more available. The new subscription model was introduced, as a followed-up trend in the industry. The subscription costs put us in shock because it was double what we paid in the past as the yearly maintenance. We negotiated and the price was dropped. But this incident made me observe a lack of transparency from Broadcom in terms of licensing expenses. This isn't unique to Broadcom but seems to be a broader industry issue."
"The subscription is not that expensive."
"The price point of Broadcom Clarity PPM is less than Planisware. If a customer comes to me, and the cost is the main parameter for the selection of a tool, then I'll recommend Broadcom because cost-wise, they are less than other solutions."
"It is a little bit costly compared to others, but it is mature. Customer should understand this product is geared towards project management, not financial management."
"Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
"We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model."
"The cost of other pieces and integrating them in needs improvement."
"Planview is a little pricey. From a licensing perspective, for just a simple timesheet user who does nothing in the system but reports time, the licensing is a little pricey, but you have to look at it from what it is that you get. We have 6,000 users, and I don't manage the system at all. I just have to do add them to the system. The servers, maintenance, OS levels, security patching for the OS, and all other things are not something that we maintain. So, you have to look at it from an operational perspective. It is not just the product itself. A holistic view has to be taken when you look at the product and how you're going to support it. I would have to hire an entire operation staff to bring it in-house, and at the end of the day, that might cost me more."
"Our licensing costs are about a quarter of a million dollars per year."
"I don't think we have necessarily purchased everything that I would have liked to have seen."
"The licensing part is a bit costly in comparison with the other available PPM tools."
"In the time that I've used it, we've doubled up the amount of dollars on our intended projects."
"We have portfolio managers, resource managers, project managers, and time reporting licenses. These are the licenses that we have."
"I rate the pricing a four out of ten because Sciforma's rates are good."
"The solution's pricing is neither too expensive nor too cheap."
