Broad perspective on strategic management exists but integration challenges hinder efficiency
The product execution part, such as planning and executing, is done through Atlassian tools, specifically Jira. We wanted to upgrade our ability to understand how all these products and teams are working against strategic goals, tracking expenses and time, but the integration between Broadcom Clarity and Atlassian Jira is very cumbersome and not straightforward. Their integration, even with ConnectALL, is just adequate, but it's never going to be great because they are actively trying to sell Rally. To make Broadcom Clarity a perfect product, I think with Jira, nothing can be done. To be fair, I don't know exactly how Rally integration works as I've only read about it, but I know that in marketing papers, it seems amazing with full-on integration, whereas with Jira, it just doesn't work that effectively.

Useful project management capabilities, beneficial dashboards, but project planning could improve
The areas that should be improved in Planview Daptiv are a subject that can be viewed differently depending on who you ask. I feel they should focus on excelling in one specific area rather than providing average capabilities in many areas. For example, their project planning software is satisfactory but not as advanced as Microsoft Projects. The same goes for the capacity planning tool and reporting capabilities, which can be improved upon by using custom Excel spreadsheets or by hiring a business analyst for additional support. In short, the biggest weakness of Daptiv is that it does not excel in any one area and only provides average performance. In a future release, it would be beneficial to have a undo button.

Centralized planning has improved resource visibility and supports data‑driven financial decisions
The best features Planview Portfolios offers are visibility enhancement, robust system performance, and comprehensive resource management. This enhanced visibility in Planview Portfolios ensures that all users can easily track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make informed decisions to optimize workflow efficiency. When discussing robust system performance, the system's robust performance in meeting our various work requirements effectively and efficiently stands out. It is very stable and reliable, contributing to a seamless user experience, which enables users to focus on their tasks without disruptions. I also love the financial breakdown, planning and prioritization, and attribute collection on projects in Planview Portfolios. Planview Portfolios has positively impacted my organization since I started using it. It has enabled me to gain insights into the full scope of work consuming resources. I am able to know where the resources are being consumed more, especially which resources are consuming the most. I have been able to leverage resources management and resource time reporting, which enabled the generation of $90 million in annual revenue through labor billing to customers.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"It is very intuitive. Even if you do not have training documents or anything, you can start feeling your way around pretty easily."
"Just the capability of it is really blowing my mind so far."
"There are definite improvements that could be made but overall, this is the best project portfolio management system I have seen and evaluated out there."
"The most valuable feature is the portfolio functionality because we have the ability to work with different scenarios and many kinds of financial management, we can integrate with ERP, and with other solutions from third-party vendors, and the financial model in Broadcom Clarity PPM is the most valuable aspect."
"We would not have been able to do it without this tool and/or the support."
"This solution has brought our groups a lot closer together and allowed them to communicate much easier rather than using emails and spreadsheets."
"Scalability is great, especially with cloud-based solutions, because it makes the product very portable and users can access it on tablets, smartphones, and whatever device they have."
"The new UI makes it easier for people to go in there and know what to do. To train people, it's faster, more intuitive."
"The most valuable features are resource allocation and capacity planning."
"I like the reporting engine, IBM Cognos, especially the analytics. That's a good tool. It's quite strong on the ideation and capacity-planning side, which is a huge plus."
"Changepoint gives us a view of the project status and needs very clearly, which are things that we used to miss with MS Project and Excel."
"The timekeeping features are great and very helpful."
"Daptiv templates give you a world of possibilities, no matter the PMI maturity level the company has."
"The powerful collaboration is definitely the most valuable and the fact that you can adjust flexibility to almost any methodology, and the easy creation of complete new functionalities without programming code."
"Reporting of IT capacity available for first time, time sheets available for first time."
"I implemented for a large client of mine and saw them quickly get up and running and leverage Daptiv to help them manage their IT demand from their internal customers."
"The most valuable features are the resource planning and tracking."
"We can easily see which functions are overcapacity. Before, we did not have visibility into that."
"We have a fairly good picture of time tracking."
"With the lifecycles, it helps us step through our processes easier. We'll take a process and create it in Visio, then we'll go and implemented in Planview. Anytime that we have to do a new process, this is what we use. We just step it through the lifecycles and the configure screens are very easy to use. The fields that you need are easy to use."
"The solution’s integrated product portfolio has transformed our organization’s strategy as we continue to roll out different products."
"It gives you the ability to see across a portfolio the cost and resource demands, helping ensure that we're working on the right things with the right amount of resources and giving us visibility into future demand to help us plan for resourcing."
"This is giving us huge flexibility to accommodate the company's needs."
"The tool does have the potential to impact our organizational delivery."

Cons

"Sometimes we want to do something but we are stuck because Clarity doesn't allow you to do it."
"It would be good for them to work on the user interface to make it more interactive."
"I have not given it a perfect rating because of the UI of the reporting in Jaspersoft; just some UI issues, I guess."
"I would really like a modern UI. I do not want to get on a user interface and feel like I am in the 1990's."
"Our environment is fairly stable, but it is not as fast as what we'd like."
"An improvement would be location tracking to see where employees are."
"I think there's still a little bit of opportunity that we can do some stuff better in relation to the financial part of it; just that easier integration, that look and feel. Our project managers, and obviously finance people, love to interface and use of Excel. The more we can get CA PPM to behave in a similar way, which we're already starting to gain in that path, will be absolutely fantastic."
"The few times that we've tried putting it in production, it hasn't been that stable."
"I find the solution has an excessive amount of features. Many aren't even kept current."
"The previous solution that we were using was Projector PSA; it was overall a superior product."
"It would also be nice to see some improvements on the IBM Cognos Analytics. There's still work to be done on the analytics side of things, like your condition formality."
"Expense management, simulation scenarios, and budget control could be great and useful features to include."
"Limited unless you purchase additional support hours."
"I find the solution has an excessive amount of features. Many aren't even kept current. Some aren't useful at all. There's an overall lack of coherence within the solution. It can make the execution difficult. Many features can easily be eliminated and it would help streamline the solution. They should get rid of 80% of the features and then really focus on the leftover 20% to make it a really great product."
"Accessing some functions is a bit obscure and requires some knowledge of how the product works, but the upgrade from v2012 to 2014 improved that situation and I expect the upcoming upgrade to 2017 to further streamline operations."
"This solution needs more standard connectors to other solutions i.e. to Infor ERP, Confluence, ..."
"It would be great to see Planview incorporate agile interfacing/methods in it. Like CA Clarity and other leading PPM tools – Planview should enhance or develop the interfaces to ingrate with other market leading Agile tools."
"User information and resource information in Planview Portfolios are separate."
"Visualization and reporting areas could use improvements by having canned reports."
"Right now, we're overspending, and my organization is not seeing the value in Planview because we are paying so much for licenses that we're not using."
"Even though Enterprise One is easy and user-friendly, it could provide better training like a demo. Providing more tutorials or sessions would really help."
"When we implement a release, we find numerous bugs and we have to have hot-fixes and patches put in on top of whatever we're testing at the time."
"The scheduling's kind of clunky in terms of its ability for us to see what stage work is at. They could have done better with that. It can be difficult to use."
"Its ability to create summary reports across multiple projects is very limited."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a little bit costly compared to others, but it is mature. Customer should understand this product is geared towards project management, not financial management."
"In recent times, I have been involved in the purchase of the license for this solution. However, the process of procurement changed and the option to buy individual licenses was no more available. The new subscription model was introduced, as a followed-up trend in the industry. The subscription costs put us in shock because it was double what we paid in the past as the yearly maintenance. We negotiated and the price was dropped. But this incident made me observe a lack of transparency from Broadcom in terms of licensing expenses. This isn't unique to Broadcom but seems to be a broader industry issue."
"We're also moving to the latest version for less than $20,000 for a major corporate system. It's just amazing."
"Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
"It is hard for them to say, "I have a person on my team who is going to be available, I am going to move that task to them". That requires a project management license, it doesn't require a team member license, so the licensing model does not sometimes support the way the business world is going."
"The subscription is not that expensive."
"Pricing is flexible, depending on the customer and the region."
"For all the functionalities of the solution, the price is in the market range, since it is a product which offers governance issues and supports the digital transformation, which is where we will go in the next year."
"The licensing is pretty complex. Each kind of user is a different price. It's approximately $300 per year. They charge additional fees for technical support and other additional services."
"It's a yearly license, but it's not an open license. It's based on users and their roles. So your administrator is priced differently from your timesheet user."
"Our licensing costs are probably $150,000 to $180,000 a year with 270 licenses total."
"Our licensing costs are about a quarter of a million dollars per year."
"When we went through that process, I believe it is competitive with others on the market. However, there are less expensive options available. It's a more premium offering at a higher price."
"I don't think we have necessarily purchased everything that I would have liked to have seen."
"We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model."
"With the costs, they were very understanding. Knowing that we were an existing customer, they were very much willing to work with us to make sure that we were able to transition to Enterprise One from PPM Pro."
"Our licensing fees are approximately $50,000 USD annually."
"Planview is a little pricey. From a licensing perspective, for just a simple timesheet user who does nothing in the system but reports time, the licensing is a little pricey, but you have to look at it from what it is that you get. We have 6,000 users, and I don't manage the system at all. I just have to do add them to the system. The servers, maintenance, OS levels, security patching for the OS, and all other things are not something that we maintain. So, you have to look at it from an operational perspective. It is not just the product itself. A holistic view has to be taken when you look at the product and how you're going to support it. I would have to hire an entire operation staff to bring it in-house, and at the end of the day, that might cost me more."
