Brings data together from multiple platforms and optimizes cross-environment orchestration
The features of Control-M that I like the most include the ability to easily integrate or bring in different platforms into Control-M. For instance, AWS, mainframe, TWS, and something that's running on Autosys can all be brought into Control-M, converted to how Control-M runs it, and then the batch can be executed. This centralizes various applications in Control-M, which doesn't just have to handle batch processes, but also other tasks like reporting on required data. I find this functionality very useful and the setup is impressive, with more advancements yet to come. With Control-M, my company has achieved several measurable improvements since I started. The metrics indicate that the number of failures has dropped, and we have addressed the issue of excessive false alerts that I encountered when I joined. Previously, we received an overwhelming number of alerts daily, but now we manage to maintain that at a normalized level, perhaps around five to fifteen alerts, depending on running core batches and their setup.

Its ability to sync data between the servers with minimum downtime is great.
Feature such as its ability to sync data between the servers with minimum downtime, rollback with just a click and replicate website configurations were great This product helped me a lot for deployments day and night. I have never seen a problem with RepliWeb, it's a great product and a reliable…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"IBM Workload Scheduler and Control-M are far superior to any of the other products on the market."
"I find it very helpful to be able to keep track of all our help desk tickets."
"Control-M provides us with a unified view, where we can easily define, orchestrate, and monitor all our application workflows and data pipelines. It also provides the ability to filter. So, if I don't want to see everything, I can also narrow it down or open ViewPoint. This is very important since we have thousands of jobs to monitor. If we did not have this ability, it would be very difficult to see what is going on."
"The most valuable feature is the integration with the workload automation solution."
"We can have a single tool for all the jobs, applications, and operating systems, and we can monitor and schedule all the jobs."
"BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer is very stable; we use it for about 40,000 jobs per day, but I know of sites that run hundreds of thousands of jobs per day on a single Control-M server, and there is no problem in terms of stability."
"My recommendation is based on the stability, the constant evolution, and the capabilities of the integration with other software."
"The batch team is now able to run an average of 1,500 jobs per day with incidents automatically created and routed to the correct team if a job fails or has an error."
"This product helped me a lot for deployments day and night."
"We successfully migrated over 1500 websites using these products."
"When we had this product set up, it helped us reduce the backlog by 40%, which helped us engage in other productive tasks for the organization."
"By using RepliWeb and custom scripts pre- and post-deploy to manage load balancing and application pools, we can deploy our websites with zero downtime."

Cons

"BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer already works great, though there could be improvements for transferring large files, particularly those that are in gigabytes, as it sometimes poses problems."
"The areas that have room for improvement for Control-M include integration and different data structures."
"Regarding Control-M's AI capabilities, I think security is crucial."
"After we complete FTP jobs, those FTP jobs will be cleared from the Control-M schedule after the noon refresh, so I struggle to find out where those jobs are saved."
"Its installation can be better. Currently, we have to install it manually. The file transfer feature can also be improved. It is not very easy to transfer a file from business to business. In terms of new features, they can include new technologies. It can have API integration."
"I would like to see them adopt more cloud. Most companies don't have a single cloud, meaning we have data sources that come from different cloud providers. That may have been solved already, but supporting Azure would be an improvement because companies tend not to have only AWS and GCP."
"I'm not sure how the solution fits together with our business modernization initiatives, as there are things outside of my area, even though Control-M is the scheduling tool of the company. They may use other things, e.g., Big Data."
"In a big environment, there is the need is to have easy access to the client."
"Maybe it would be great if the tool could have an analytics dashboard, with the total commitments and the number of rollbacks in a timeframe."
"It failed sometimes and I had to restart the services."
"They should also study banking products for file transfers like Sterling Gateway Connect Direct/Express and incorporate it with them."
"The setup was complex for the administrators to get their head around how the templating worked."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have a license till 2024. We are good and satisfied with it."
"The annual licensing within BMC Control-M is on a per task basis. Three- and five-year contracts are also offered. The customer usually buys a bundle of tasks, e.g., 5,000 tasks, then my team configures Control-M for their usage."
"There are human costs in addition to the standard pricing and licensing of this solution."
"There are two different types of licenses available. The first is based on the number of jobs that we run per day, and the other is based on the number of agents that we install. My current project has a contract for five years."
"The cost is basically $100 a job, give or take."
"Licensing costs are around $3000 a year."
"We are paying way more for Control-M than we've paid for any of our other scheduling tools."
"Its cost is a little bit higher than other solutions such as AutoSys or DAC. For the demo, there were some plans, such as start plan, scale plan, etc. Pricing was based on the plan."
