Brings data together from multiple platforms and optimizes cross-environment orchestration
The features of Control-M that I like the most include the ability to easily integrate or bring in different platforms into Control-M. For instance, AWS, mainframe, TWS, and something that's running on Autosys can all be brought into Control-M, converted to how Control-M runs it, and then the batch can be executed. This centralizes various applications in Control-M, which doesn't just have to handle batch processes, but also other tasks like reporting on required data. I find this functionality very useful and the setup is impressive, with more advancements yet to come. With Control-M, my company has achieved several measurable improvements since I started. The metrics indicate that the number of failures has dropped, and we have addressed the issue of excessive false alerts that I encountered when I joined. Previously, we received an overwhelming number of alerts daily, but now we manage to maintain that at a normalized level, perhaps around five to fifteen alerts, depending on running core batches and their setup.

"The solution supports all file transfers."
"Control-M has a huge number of features and utilities that assist users in monitoring their schedules and developers to build schedules which interface with many technologies."
"Control-M has impacted my organization positively by improving the SLA and the overall workflow."
"The feature I appreciate most about Control-M is the capability of scheduling jobs automatically, as the dependency and control runs all tasks automatically by themselves."
"The graphical visibility of processes is clearer than other job scheduling solutions, which is Control-M's biggest selling point."
"The File Watcher utility, cyclic jobs, and email alert notification are valuable."
"BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer has definitely helped to reduce IT operations cost, as maintaining files manually takes a lot of human time, and this automation significantly alleviates that burden."
"This product helped me a lot for deployments day and night."
"By using RepliWeb and custom scripts pre- and post-deploy to manage load balancing and application pools, we can deploy our websites with zero downtime."
"When we had this product set up, it helped us reduce the backlog by 40%, which helped us engage in other productive tasks for the organization."
"We successfully migrated over 1500 websites using these products."

Cons

"Consider adding a mobile application for remote management or expand the integration with My IT."
"Control-M SaaS is very expensive."
"Control-M's learning platforms need significant improvement."
"We've also had a few database bugs within our organization. I think we are migrating to OpenJDK rather than just regular Java and that has since shown some issues with our Control-M instance, timing out and causing our jobs to stop running. We are still working with BMC to fine-tune that and get that resolved."
"BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer already works great, though there could be improvements for transferring large files, particularly those that are in gigabytes, as it sometimes poses problems."
"The GUI needs to be improved, they cannot provide a good GUI."
"The Web interface is coming along but still has some missing pieces."
"With earlier versions, the support was not accurate or delivered in a timely manner."
"Maybe it would be great if the tool could have an analytics dashboard, with the total commitments and the number of rollbacks in a timeframe."
"The setup was complex for the administrators to get their head around how the templating worked."
"It failed sometimes and I had to restart the services."
"They should also study banking products for file transfers like Sterling Gateway Connect Direct/Express and incorporate it with them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Yearly licenses are based on the number of jobs."
"The cost of the hardware is high. Because you need to license each job, it is costly."
"Apart from the standard license, if we avail any additional features, there's an extra cost. For example, Workload Archiving is an additional feature from the standard product, so we pay extra for that."
"It is an expensive solution."
"In our environment, pricing depends on the total number of maximum jobs that can run, which is fine. Therefore, if the number of jobs increases, then the licensing fees will increase."
"The cost is basically $100 a job, give or take."
"The licensing is a bit more expensive than other tools, so if a client is focused on the cost, that would be something to consider. The licensing should be cheaper."
"It is a little bit expensive."
