End-to-end automation has simplified patching and software deployment across thousands of servers
There is one feature in BigFix called the automation patch policy that requires enhancement. When an action is initiated through the patch policy, it appears on the console but arrives in chunks. When targeting hundreds of servers from the patch policy, the actions come in chunks such as ten out of six, ten out of nine, or ten out of fifteen. This fragmented approach creates a significant challenge for the patching team to monitor the action status. I would recommend that the development team provide a single action or one to two actions instead of multiple actions requiring individual monitoring. A broad status update could be provided to the client indicating the overall progress of the patch policy implementation rather than requiring monitoring of every individual action. This would reduce the bandwidth required by the team to track multiple actions on the console.

The Ivanti Neurons for Patch Intelligence's most valuable feature is simplicity. When deployed in our environment, the standout aspect is the ease of installation across different offices. For example, in a location with 150 users, we only need to install the agent on one machine. From there, it scans the entire network, identifying components on computers, laptops, desktops, and more. We can view the results and easily push updates.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Switching to BigFix has alleviated that to a great degree and is now allowing our company to think ahead about how we can incorporate other pieces of BigFix that other solutions don't have integrated natively, so we can get five or six product sets out of BigFix as opposed to just a single product set on a solution that didn't even work to begin with."
"If you are using BigFix and you have the client installed on every machine, you are nearly always audit-safe from out of the box."
"The tool's most valuable features are patching and integration with vulnerability scanners."
"My company provides support services to a lot of customers and companies. We have reduced a huge amount of man-effort. Along with the man-effort, we have reduced the timeline to fix the compliance and security gaps. We have an unbroken record. The documentation clearly says that we have done the patching of newly released patches, including Microsoft and third-party patches, in up to 80% of the computers, within 72 hours of the release of the production. That was a very massive benefit that we have seen. When I talk about the 80% endpoints, it is 100 or 200. I am talking about 25,000 endpoints."
"We did a proof of concept, looked at the other competitors and after scaling all of them on a matrix, IBM ended up being the best option for us."
"Support is very awesome. Every time we have needed something from technical support, they have been on top of everything with a very quick turnaround in the issues that we've had with the product."
"The solution is unbelievably scalable."
"The BigFix features that have proven most effective include inventory, software delivery, software distribution, software catalog, and both software and hardware management."

Cons

"I'd like to see better integration, with the different applications within BigFix. Instead of sometimes feeling like four or five different applications, they need to be integrated a little better within themselves."
"One aspect that could be improved is the speed of the console. Sometimes it can be slow, which is something that needs to be addressed."
"They don't have a proper mobile device management capability. They're working on it, however, that's the one thing that needs improvement so that you can have full unified endpoint management."
"While performing integration, we face many issues with IBM solution. We need detailed information about those issues that can help users to mitigate them."
"The only thing that I don't like about BigFix is that it does not support other devices such as printer firmware, router firmware, and things like that. I will be happy if I can control everything and get everything else in there, even if it is just a line item. They can do some enhancements to the Web UI. I am trying to get customers to be able to manage their environment by using Web UI, and it would be good if we can delete endpoints by using Web UI. We should also be able to generate Excel content or data tables from the Web UI without having to go to the console. It is small stuff, and it drives me crazy that I have to go to another console to do these things."
"Relay selection and availability needs improvement as an incorrect relay selected can cause network chokes."
"There is one feature in BigFix called the automation patch policy that requires enhancement."
"BigFix can improve the way machines report back to the console."
"Ivanti Neurons for Patch Intelligence needs to improve reporting."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It might be about $23 a client."
"Compliance, inventory, and licensing are really pricey. They should lower the price. It discourages users from getting onboard."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing one out of ten."
"I can estimate the reduced cost of servers maintenance to approximatively $500,000."
"It is too costly. It is one of the best tools, but because of pricing, not all clients support it. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The license is subscription-based."
"You get what we call the Platform Edition, which you get for free. The patch service is maybe $0.50 per workstation per month. Then there's the basic server cost, which is about $1.50 per server per month. You also get into Lifecycle which does power management, OSD remote control, and those types of things, and that might be about 10 times the price - which works out to about $13 per server and, maybe $5 per workstation per month."
"You are charged per server and per workstation when using BigFix. ManageEngine is a lot cheaper than BigFix. There are some additional costs, such as support."
"I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten."
