We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""It can be used in virtually any environment we have onsite.""It is easy to scale Bacula Enterprise even if your system is growing tremendously in data and servers.""The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community.""The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization.""Bacula is pretty stable.""It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light."

"When it comes to recovering what you need from a backup, it's really easy. You just drill through the directory, find the file and the date that you want, and click to recover. You then pick the directory you want to save it in. Usually, it takes a minute or two and it's done. It's quick and easy.""The solution offers good documentation.""From a disaster-recovery point of view, one of the things I really like is that I can test the virtual copy of the physical server on a test network and compare the servers side-by-side, without interfering with the production network. So I can see and make sure that the latest copy of the server is the physical copy of the server, without interfering with production.""It's easy to implement, easy to spin up, easily configurable, to drop-in appliances and network. There wasn't a lot of time needed to spin it up.""The most valuable feature of Quorum OnQ is quick recovery.""Being able to spin up a machine in a sandbox is amazing because it allows us to test things that we otherwise would not be able to do.""One of the most valuable features was the usability, since many of the features were very straightforward. The backup and restoration process was also very fast. Although we weren't able to fully test the scenarios, one of the features was that we could have it restored on a remote site. However, since we were on-prem, we weren't able to test the remote site restoration.""The most useful feature is the one-click recovery."

Cons
"A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy.""It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""The initial setup could be a bit easier.""We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI."

More Bacula Enterprise Cons →

"They need integration with other platforms.""I would really like it if they followed comparable products from other vendors and had an option where you could offload to tape. I know it sounds incredibly antiquated, but the benefit I see is that there would be a better air gap than you have with backing up to an online source.""I would like to see iSCSI support added so that NAS storage servers could be protected. We heavily utilize NAS storage and the risk there is minimal backup options. Currently, we are backing up NAS to NAS which is costly and slow. Being able to integrate NAS server backup would be the last item on my Quorum bucket list.""It would be beneficial if file culling could be more granular.""At times the email notifications don't go out, but a quick reset always fixes that problem.""The price is high and could be more competitive.""Lacks compatibility in terms of supporting other OS.""Quorum OnQ can be improved by providing support for other operating systems like Ubuntu."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is an open-source solution."
  • "We have a perpetual license."
  • More Bacula Enterprise Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We have never questioned whether it is worth it because it so obviously is a great value."
  • "When we first got the Quorum the licensing was different."
  • "The cost is higher than other software and services, but it is an absolute must-have."
  • "The total for our current solution's licensing is about $14,000 for 12 servers for three years."
  • "The pricing is about $1,400 a month. It's a little bit on the higher side. But it's one of those situations where time is valuable for me. So if it costs a little bit more money for me to have a solution that just works and requires less of my day-to-day management, I'm willing to pay a little bit more."
  • "The initial expenditure for us was a little under $40,000 for the recent renewal. For the first three years after that, other than electricity, there's no cost. After that, their support contract has to be renewed annually. We spent close to $6,000, between the two offices, for support."
  • "When we quote the price of Quorum to customers, they find it expensive."
  • "The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."
